INICIAR SESIÓNSofia POV
When I finally woke up, my head felt like it was being split into two by God knows what. I squinted my eyes, taking in where I was. I was in a dimly lit room on a big massive bed. The rest of the room was empty. Well... except for a chair at the side. Where in the hell am I? How in the hell did I end up here? I held my throbbing head as I winced in pain. Everything that happened today came rushing back in waves. Did I get married? Am I in my husband's house? No, that couldn't be possible. I was kidnapped and dragged off. Shit! I quickly slid off the bed and sprinted for the door, grabbing the handle and pulling hard. “You've got to be fucking shitting me!” God no. I pulled it again and again, but it wouldn't budge. “Who is there?! Let me out!” I yelled, slamming my palm against the door. It stung so hard my palm instantly turned red and sore. “You better let me out right now! If my father finds me, I swear to God before he hands y'all to the police, I'll smack your asses so hard!” I threatened, banging on the door again. I whipped around, scanning the room. When my eyes fell on the wooden chair, I marched over and hoisted it up. It was heavy, but I channeled every ounce of adrenaline I had. I’d watched enough true-crime documentaries—I could sure as hell get myself out of here. Who was I kidding? I hurled the chair against the door with all my strength. BANG! BANG! The door didn’t even flinch. “Please let me out!” I begged, my voice breaking. “I swear I won’t go to the police. I’m begging you!” No response. A sudden thought hit me. I rushed across the room to the window and yanked on the frame. Locked tight. What kind of insane security system did this place have? Looking up, my eyes caught a small red light blinking back at me from the top corner of the wall. A camera. I slid all the way down to the floor. Why did I suddenly feel so watched? I let out a heavy, defeated sigh. Why was I kidnapped? Last time I checked, I was just a normal girl who’d never hurt a fly. Why in the hell would anyone kidnap me on my wedding day? Or did this have something to do with my father rushing me off to Rico? Did Dad do something? Is that why I was taken? Fear crept inside me. I could feel my insides curling in different directions. I think I need to shit. Before I could stop it, tears were already rolling down my face. For someone who barely cries, I've lost count of how many times I've cried in the past two days. What are they going to do to me? Will they kill me? Since when did my life turn into a horror movie? I don't want to die. Please. I’ve barely achieved anything. The door swung open and I jolted to my feet immediately. A man in a sharp black suit stepped inside. He was built like a brick wall, with a small earpiece clipped to his ear and a gun tucked securely into his waistband. Deep, jagged scars cut across his face—he looked like he’d fought in every single war in history and survived them all. He was holding a tray with a plate of lukewarm, greyish mashed potatoes and rubbery sausage. It looked ice-cold and could easily pass as dog food. I’d die before I ate that. “You kidnapped me, right? Let me go right now!” My words didn't match my actions one bit.I was already cowering backwards towards the wall. “Shut up and stay silent,” he said harshly, placing the plate of food on the bed. “Why did you kidnap me? Who sent you?!” I yelled as tears continued rolling down my face. “When the boss gets here, I expect you to be on your best behavior.” Boss? They have a boss? What is this, the mafia? Before I could say anything else, the bulky man walked out of the room and slammed the door shut. I eyed the food as my stomach growled. I don’t know how many minutes passed while I sat there dreading what was going to happen to me. My thoughts were cut short when I heard footsteps outside the door. My heart raced so fast I thought it would burst. The footsteps were measured, heavy, and deliberate. Is it the boss? When the door clicked open, I squeezed my eyes shut, wrapping my arms tightly around myself like a shield. I could hear his footsteps moving into the room. Then his cologne hit me…a rich, intoxicating mix of dark amber, expensive leather, and smoky sandalwood. It smelled like pure, unadulterated wealth. “Open your eyes.” The thick, smooth voice wrapped around me, cold and absolute. The sheer authority in his tone was insane. A command, not a request. “Who are you?” I asked, not daring to open my eyes. “I’m your husband.” My husband? Rico didn’t sound anything like this at the altar. He was bluffing. He had to be. I slowly peeled my eyes open. The first thing I saw was his leather shoes. They were custom-made Christian Louboutins. I’d recognize those red soles anywhere. First thing: My captor was dangerously rich. I slowly dragged my eyes up his tailored suit, past his broad chest, all the way to his face. My mouth fell open. My heartbeat spiked into hyperdrive. I know that face. No way… Never in a million years would I have guessed that the richest man in New York was the one who had just kidnapped me. The exact man my little sister never stopped talking about. New York's women wet dream. The most feared man.
Adrien Mercer.I think I'm doomed...
Chapter 5SOFIA POVOkay. Maybe I'd somehow died at the hands of those masked men and ended up in the afterlife because there was no way this man standing in front of me was real, let alone my husband.“Shall we continue from where you stopped at the altar?” His husky voice wrapped around me.“Last time I checked, you didn't have a walking stick, you're not seventy-five, and my husband doesn't look this good.” I huffed. His lips curled into a smirk as he slipped his hands into his pockets. His blue eyes were cold. Unbelievably cold.Nothing like any man I had ever laid eyes on. Then again, this wasn't just any man. He was Adrien Mercer, the man they called the Brooding Devil. He had a reputation to match the name.“Miss Ross, is it your wish to marry Rico Drake?” he asked. Why was he asking me that? What business did he have with the man I was supposed to marry?“I don't think my dear old husband's business is any of yours, Mr. New York. But you're behind my kidnapping, aren't you?” I

Sofia POVAs I walked down the aisle with my father's arm linked through mine, my eyes glistened with tears as I looked at the man waiting for me at the altar."Dad..." My voice came out shaky as I tried not to trip over my heels with the anxiety burning through me. "Why did you do this to me?""He's not bad, Sofia. He'll take care of you." He gave me a tight smile."More like I'll be taking care of him," I bit back harshly."Behave, Sofia. People are watching."How in the hell was I supposed to behave? The world was about to watch me marry a man who didn't just have a pot belly. He was older than my father, used a walking stick, and could barely stand on his own without the two bodyguards planted on either side of him.The worst part?He was smiling.Actually smiling.Like he'd just won the biggest prize of his life.I tightened my grip around the stupid bouquet in my hands.I hated roses.I preferred lilies. But of course none of this had been planned with me.I glanced around the h
SOFIA POVIt's pointless arguing with my mother. There's no way in hell I'm getting married in two days to a man I don't know shit about.Who the hell does that?Does Father think we're still in the 1800s? Or was it the 900s? Whatever. Somewhere people thought this nonsense was normal. It's ridiculous. Bat shit crazy.I didn't bother knocking. I swung the door open the moment I reached Father's study and marched inside. My father's head snapped up. He sat behind his desk looking tired as hell."Sofia?" His voice came out strained.I didn't answer him."Dad, tell me it's a lie. Tell me whatever Mum came to tell me was nothing but a birthday prank that's probably going to end with me on a plane to Satroperez as my birthday gift." I bit out angrily. My stomach knotted at the look on Father's face."I guess your mother spoke to you." He dropped his glasses onto the desk and leaned back in his chair.I hurried over and sat in the chair opposite him, leaning forward."Dad, please tell me it
Sofia POVI’ve always known my fate as a Ross. One day, I would marry a man thrice my age, with a huge potbelly, kept in his house while I cook and take care of him till he withers away. And as someone who doesn’t believe in love? I don’t mind. But I just thought I had five more years, until my mother walked into my room.My father believed it’s a good thing to do for his children. He did the same with my elder sister, Chloe, four years ago.I love my father. I really do, but he makes shitty decisions when it comes to our love lives. I just want to be single forever.“Your father has found the perfect husband for you, Sofia,” my mother said calmly, holding my hands with a look that could pass as pity no matter how much she tried to hide it.“I just turned twenty, Mother, and he couldn’t wait a bit?” I blurted out. “Last time I checked, I haven’t even slept with a man, the last guy who tried to kiss me, Dad broke his hand, and now you think it’s okay to get married to a man who’s proba
