Then I took a turn to pinch Cecil’s waist. When she groaned, I grinned, satisfied with the payback.

“You’re sweet, but mean,” Cecil grumbled while caressing her waist.

I shrugged with an innocent expression.

Edward laughed aloud to see our interaction. “Thanks. Okay, let’s go later. Only five of us. We’ll talk again about the time and place.” Then he glanced at me. “Let’s go back to our room.”

I nodded and waved at my friends. “See you later, girls!”

“Thanks, sir!” Anna said while waving at me and smiling at Edward.

After we returned to our working room, I noticed he kept smiling. “Why are you smiling?”

“Your friends are wonderful. They are funny and don’t pretend, even before me. You chose the right friends!”

“Well, indeed. They are kind and always support me, though sometimes they can be too straightforward. That’s why I enjoy being friends with them.”

“You’re lucky to have friends like them.” He let out a long sigh. “I’m jealous of you.”

“Huh? Why?”

“You know? In my circle, it’s hard to find an honest friend. Each time they approach me is to get an advantage, not because they want to be my friends. Even if they don’t, they will be cautious and save their images by presenting themselves as someone else.”

“Don’t you have any friends?” I asked.

“Friends? No. I have a lot of acquaintances, but friends?” Again, he sighed.

“Is it because you are too afraid to be hurt? Nobody’s perfect, right?”

“Yes, maybe you’re right. I find it hard to get friends because my mother emphasized to me to have friends in the same social circle. She wanted to ensure that none would take advantage of me or my family. When I was in senior high school, I had a good friend. A best friend.” He was quiet for a while before continuing again, “How I could be friends with him was because we were in the same social circle. So it was safe for me to accept him as my friend.“

I listened to him. Probably most people didn’t know that being a billionaire wasn’t always fun. Most likely, people would think that as rich men, they had everything. No need to worry about what they would eat the next day. If they wanted to buy anything, just buy it. Unfortunately, this was the side that not all knew. It was true that all had their own problems and miseries.

He continued with his story. “Unfortunately, I lost him two years later. Andrew stole someone I like while he knew for sure I liked the girl.” His eyes were dimmed as he recalled the past.

“So you ended your friendship because of that?”

He didn’t reply. He looked elsewhere. “If only he told me, we would be good.” He sighed. “Unfortunately, he lied to me. He supported me to approach Jillian, but in the back, he tried to get her for himself.”

“Ah, he stabbed you from behind,” I whispered. I could feel his pain.

“Yes, more or less that’s what I felt. It was worse because I trusted him completely, but he betrayed me.”

I patted his hand. “Have you found it hard to trust people because of that?”

He stared at me and smiled a little. “It’s better now. I was awful back then when it came to trusting people. At university, I tried to be friends with my classmates, but it was my problem that I couldn’t open up to them.”

“Why?”

“Because some of them, who were close enough with me, told me they came from lower-middle class families. They told me they were jealous of the upper class people. How could I be free to be myself after hearing such comments?”

“Afterward, what did you do?”

“I pretended I came from an ordinary family. At least, no problem to be friends with most of them, but it was impossible to be closer friends.”

I stared at him with pity. “Who knows if you can be friends with my friends?”

“I hope so.” Suddenly, he smiled brightly. “At least from how they treated me, I have hope. They know who I am, but they don’t pretend before me.”

His phone rang. “Hang on, please?” he said while smiling at me.

I nodded while smiling back at him.

He returned to his desk. I could hear his voice clearly.

“Yes, Mom, you will meet her later. I’m sure you’ll like her.” He was silent for a while. “I will ask her about that. Talk to you later, Mom. Yes, bye, Mom.”

My heart beat so fast. Would he ask me to meet with his mother soon? Oh! I wasn’t ready yet!

Afterward, he approached my desk again. He grinned at me. “It’s my mom. I already told her about us. She wanted to meet you.”

I cleared my throat while scratching my head.

“When can you meet her?”

I squirmed on the chair. “Uh …”

“Any problem?”

I bent my head and squeezed my hands. “W-We are new. It’s too fast to meet your mother now.”

“Lana, look at me, please?” So I raised my head and stared at him. His gaze was sad. “Are you unsure of me?”

“No! It’s not what I meant!” I protested.

“Oh, then if you don’t feel like that, why?”

“I just … I don’t know. It feels like it’s too fast. I must convince myself first that I’m worthy of you. I deserve to be with you.”

He immediately pulled my hands. It was so strong until I was lifted from my seat. “Come. We will go somewhere. We need to talk.”

“Where?”

“We will talk somewhere more comfortable. I don’t want any problem in our relationship.”

Then, holding my hand, he directed me to the parking lot. I just followed him. Ten minutes later, we arrived at a mall. Next, we entered a Japanese restaurant there.

“What do you want to order?”

“You go first. I’m still thinking.”

“Okay, I want the Special Package, please?” he said to the server.

After turning the menu, I finally decided, “Beef Hot Ramen, please. Not too spicy, please.”

“What beverage do you want? I want hot Ocha,” he said. Ocha was a Japanese tea.

I nodded. “Okay, me too. So two hot Ochas,” I said to the server.

“Got it, Boss!” Jenny said while lifting her thumb up. “Come, Edward, start eating. We already started first!”He nodded. “Okay. Lana and I will take the food first. Let’s go, baby.” Edward and I strolled to take beef, chicken, and sausage. “Honey, do you want Satay?” I asked him. “Okay, but let’s share it.”“Okay. We must wait until they finish grilling the Satay.” I took the rest of the food. “I’ll take a drink first because I’m thirsty.”“What do you want? I’ll take it for you.”“Thai Tea. Thanks, darling.” “Go to our table,” he said. “I’ll wait for the Satay.”Afterward, I returned to our table. When I sat, my friends commented on me. “Ah, you’re so smart in choosing a boyfriend! He seems to care about you so much,” Jenny said. “Yep! He’s kind to us too. You chose well. I hope it will be happy ever after,” Cecil said.Anna said nothing. She only smiled while nodding, agreeing with Jenny and Cecil. I grinned to hear what they said. “Amen! I feel that he’s so kind. I’m so lu

I rushed to the toilet because I wanted to change my clothes. After replacing my working clothes with a clean hangout dress, I was about to leave the small cubicle. Suddenly, I heard something from the sink area. “All’s good?” It’s June’s voice.“Yes, it’s safe! Oh, how about ‘that’ one?” Caithlyn whispered, emphasizing on ‘that’. Since it was quiet here, I could hear it too. “Oh, I’m still clueless about it. I still try to find out about it, but still, no clue. I wonder who did it?” June said. Then I couldn’t hear anything else. All I could hear was the sound of flowing water. After a while, Caithlyn said, “Let’s go home.” “Yes, see you next week, Lyn.”I was still in the bathroom until I was sure they weren’t in the toilet anymore. What did they talk about? About ‘that’ one? Was it about the money embezzlement? After checking around and it was safe since no one was there, I rushed to wash my face. Then I powdered it, applied lip gloss to my lips, and combed my hair. Then

What he said startled me. “We must set a trap. No other way. I need your help.”“My help? Do you have any idea?”He nodded. “We need someone who will pretend to be a buyer of our product. Then they will offer money so they can get the lower price.” I clapped when I heard it. When I realized it attracted the attention of customers in the restaurant, I bent my head, embarrassed by my spontaneous reaction. But then I lifted my head after a few seconds and grinned at him. “Ah, I see! Good idea!” I whispered. “If we can catch the culprit, they can’t make any reason to deny it. From what my father said, it seems the money embezzlement has been for years. They offered higher prices, but they made different deals with customers. The rest of the money went to their pockets,” he explained while squinting his eyes. “Okay, I’ll try to find someone who can help us. If the culprit is June or Caithlyn and we can catch them, it will be a more peaceful office atmosphere later,” I said. He chuckl

He shook his head. “No, they won’t get any commission, but I do it so we can work more freely. Besides, it’s only a presentation of our company and products. No need for many people, so we can be more cost efficient.”“I’m worried they will talk negatively behind our backs. Because they feel like they are the company’s favorites. If they know we’ll go without them ….” I didn’t finish my words. “Relaxed,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if they know. So, they can also think it is not only them who can market the company’s products. I want to tell you something, but not here.”I nodded and didn’t think anymore about my worries. Later, I continued my work to make the company portfolio bundles with fabric samples. I matched the colors to the provided sample books. It wasn’t hard work, but it needed high meticulousness. It wasn’t allowed any mistakes because it could be fatal. So I worked it per color to ensure no mistake. After an hour, it was done. I rechecked everything before I put them

“Yes,” I whispered. My tears were already in my eyes, ready to flow anytime. He said nothing for a while, then drove the car. We were quiet along the way. I tried to calm myself. Did he only think of me as Laura’s replacement? What did she look like? After arriving at my parents’ house, he held my hand. “I’m sorry. I didn’t realize and didn’t know why I called you Laura.”I nodded weakly. Without staring at his face, I asked, “Do you still love her?”He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he let out a long sigh. “I won’t lie to you.” After a while, he finally said, “Yes, I still love her, but I like you too. Is it a problem for you?”Again, I couldn’t say anything. Our relationship was new. It was understandable that he still loved Laura. Later, I said, “I don’t mind that you still love her. As long as you care for me.”“I care about you.” He stared at me. “Otherwise, why didn’t I ask you to be my girlfriend?”After thinking about it, what he said was true. Probably he only called th

Long afterward, I still leaned on his shoulder, relaxing and enjoying our closeness. I thought he had already forgotten his question before we headed to the mall. Suddenly, he dropped the bomb again. “So, when do you want to meet my mom?”I raised my head from his shoulder. “Uh … uh … how about two or three months later?” I whispered. He shook his head. “Too long. Two or three months later, she will fly to Milan. There is a fashion show she wanted to see there.” After a while, he asked again, “How about next month?”Finally, I gave up. Eventually, I would meet with his mom too. So I nodded though I didn’t want to. He squeezed my hand. “Good! I’m sure she’ll like you.”I wasn’t as optimistic as him, but I commented nothing. I hoped I was wrong. “Oh, when will we treat your friends?”“How about this weekend? They probably have time on the weekend. I’ll ask them. They will be happy because it’s about the treat.” I grinned when I imagined going to eat with my three friends.“Deal! D
