Adrian opened the door.

Nobody was there.

Only an envelope lay on the floor.

He picked it up.

“Don't touch that,” Charles warned.

Adrian ignored him.

He opened the envelope.

Inside was a single photograph.

A photograph of the Blackwood Corporation building.

On the back was a handwritten message.

THE FILE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR WAS NEVER DESTROYED.

Adrian's eyes narrowed.

“What file?”

Charles stared at the photograph.

“The missing agreement.”

Daniel suddenly sat down.

Elena noticed.

“You know something.”

Daniel rubbed his forehead.

“I've known about that file for years.”

Adrian turned toward him.

“Where is it?”

“I don't know.”

“You're lying again.”

“I don't know where it is now.”

“But you know what it contains.”

Daniel hesitated.

“Yes.”

Elena stepped forward.

“What does it contain?”

Daniel looked at her.

“The truth about the agreement between our families.”

Charles crossed his arms.

“And the reason Alexander Blackwood wanted everyone to forget it existed.”

Adrian stared at Charles.

“What did my grandfather do?”

Charles didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he looked at Elena.

“Your father should tell you.”

Daniel stood.

“The agreement was supposed to protect both families.”

“What happened?”

“Alexander changed the terms.”

“Why?”

“Because the company became more valuable than anyone expected.”

Elena frowned.

“So this was about money?”

“At first.”

“At first?”

Daniel looked away.

“Then it became about power.”

Adrian's phone rang.

He glanced at the screen.

It was his security chief.

“What?”

The man's voice was urgent.

“Sir, I've checked the company archives.”

“And?”

“There is no record of the agreement.”

Adrian's expression hardened.

“Search again.”

“We did.”

“Then search the private archives.”

There was silence.

“Sir…”

“What?”

“We found something.”

Adrian straightened.

“What?”

“A record showing that the file was transferred out of the company seventeen years ago.”

“Transferred to whom?”

“We don't know.”

“Find out.”

The call ended.

Elena looked at him.

“What does seventeen years ago mean?”

Adrian slowly looked at her.

“It means someone deliberately removed the file before either of us knew what was happening.”

Charles gave a quiet laugh.

“Not someone.”

Adrian's eyes narrowed.

“Who?”

“Your grandfather.”

Before Adrian could respond, his phone rang again.

This time, the security chief sounded frightened.

“Sir, there's a problem.”

“What?”

“The file has just been accessed.”

Adrian's face went cold.

“By whom?”

“We don't know.”

“Where?”

“Your grandfather's private archive.”

Adrian immediately grabbed his jacket.

“I'm going there.”

Elena stepped forward.

“I'm coming.”

“No.”

“You're not leaving me here after everything we've discovered.”

Adrian stared at her.

“It's dangerous.”

“So is staying behind.”

Charles picked up his coat.

“I'll come too.”

Adrian looked at him.

“I don't trust you.”

“You shouldn't.”

That answer surprised him.

Charles continued.

“But right now, we need someone who knows what we're looking for.”

They left together.

The drive to Blackwood Corporation was tense.

Nobody spoke.

When they reached the private archive, the security doors were already open.

Adrian stopped.

“That should be impossible.”

Charles looked around.

“Someone wanted us to find this.”

They entered.

The room was dark.

Rows of old files covered the walls.

Adrian's security chief stood near a desk.

“Sir.”

“What happened?”

“We found the file.”

Adrian walked toward the desk.

“Where?”

The man pointed to an empty space.

“It was here.”

Adrian's eyes narrowed.

“What do you mean it was here?”

“It disappeared less than five minutes ago.”

Elena's heart dropped.

“Someone was here.”

Adrian looked at the security cameras.

“Show me the footage.”

The security chief hesitated.

“There is no footage.”

“Why?”

“The cameras were disabled.”

Adrian stared at the blank monitor.

Charles walked toward the desk.

He picked up a small piece of paper.

“What is that?”

Charles unfolded it.

His expression changed.

Adrian took it from him.

It contained one sentence:

ASK VICTORIA WHAT HAPPENED THE NIGHT THE FILE DISAPPEARED.

Adrian looked at Elena.

Then at Charles.

Someone wasn't just hiding the truth.

Someone was leading them toward it.
