INICIAR SESIÓNChapter 43
The Bartender's Advice
Damian POV
Even in my drunken state, I still had to get that advice. After all, that was the main reason why I shared everything with this unknown bartender, or should I say bar owner. He looked at me for a while and smirked.
“No, I don't think you are doing the right thing. I think you should open up to Amara. Tell her everything you feel. Tell her how you want everything to be. If you keep acting all calm and bold and all egoistic, feeling like you are more than the way you are, you might lose her again. From the look of it, it seems like she has so many people who are ready to die for her. At least be the one to be a little bit different and do modern dying for her. That would make perfect sense, right?”
He said to me as I laughed.
“You. You are very, very, very right, and I like that about you. You make everything so perfect. I think I have to go home now and face my fears. Why do I call it fears? ...and face my ridiculousness? I am the one pushing her away. I am the one not giving her a chance, and I think it's time for me to give her that chance. I think it's time for me to make her understand how much I want her. Thank you so much,” I said to him as I tried standing up.
Even though I was so f*cking drunk, I was just staggering around. I don't even know how I'm going to get home, but I am going to get home. I stood in front of my car, my hands folded straight, wiggling back and forth, going sideways.
“I know I can't drive in a situation like this. I am too drunk.”
I brought out my phone, and the first thing I did was call my driver. He picked up instantly as I placed the phone on my ear while opening my car, and I sat down in the passenger seat.
“Find me. I don't know where I am, find my location. Come and get me please. I'm so drunk and I need to get home fast,” I said to him as he seemed a bit taken aback.
“Mr. Damian drunk? Are you sure I'm talking to Mr. Damian now? I've never seen a situation where you got drunk and need me to drive you,” he said as I hissed loudly.
“Why do you care? Why do you want to know more than that? You don't need to know more. Just come and get me please. I am already frustrated, and I don't want to lose my chance now. This is the only time I can do what I have in mind,” I said and ended the call.
I did not know what happened next, but I know I had a knock on my windshield. I looked at the side; I saw the driver. It was already raining heavily, and he had an umbrella above his head.
“Sir, I have been knocking for a while now. I think you slept off,” he said to me as I opened the door for him.
He rushed to the other side of the driver's seat and sat down, looking at me a bit concerned.
“Is everything okay, Mr. Damian?” he said as I groaned.
“Don't ask me, don't ask me. Take me home,” I said frustrated as he nodded and started the engine, immediately driving me straight into the busy and rainy night.
I rested my head, enjoying the cool AC and how the tequila had helped to calm my nerves and my thinking. Now I felt like I had no worries in the world, and that is exactly what I want, having no worries at all.
I soon got home, and he opened the door for me, trying to assist me as I raised my hands in the air.
“No, you don't have to help me. I can actually get inside on my own. I don't need you to drive me because I don't want a situation whereby I would be charged for having any accident or driving drunk,” I said and opened my hand for my key as he placed it there.
I staggered my way back into the house, and there she was in all her glory, staring at me innocently.
“Amara, can we talk?” I said as she chuckled.
“You. You look drunk. I have never actually seen you drunk before. What happened?” she said as I shrugged and took my seat, tapping the space beside me.
“Join me,” I said to her as she wasted no time in taking her seat.
“I am so sorry for what I said in the court and how I turned everything around. It's just that you never wanted to help me. You never showed any sign of wanting to help me, and then you just showed up there, sitting there with no emotions, doing nothing. It seemed like you came to threaten me or came to tell me that I would not win back my inheritance, and then you burst my bubble by telling me you knew I about the secret inheritance, hurt more than anything. How could you do that? How could you betray me in such a way? I feel like that was a betrayal,” she said as I laughed.
“I never planned on keeping it from you. I never planned on keeping so many things from you. But I don't know. I have something else. I have a reason why I tried to distance myself from you. I thought if I stayed away from you, it would help,” I began, but there was the way she looked at me, like she had heard these words before, like she had known where exactly I was going.
“What do you want to say? Exactly? What exactly do you want to say, Damian?” she questioned as I smiled flatly.
“That I care for you. That I want another chance. I want another chance with you. Please, Amara, do this one thing for me and give me just one more chance,” I pleaded as she laughed, standing up.
“This is it. This is just enough. All I need from you guys is your help. But it seems as though you guys are not even concentrating on that. It's like you guys don't know what I'm passing through, what I have passed through, and what I want, or desire to prove. All you guys know is having feelings. Do you think feelings are going to solve everything? Is it because I am in your apartment, right? Fine. I'm going to leave now,” she said, and before I could understand what was going on, she had already stormed away.
“God, she's going to leave. The bartender was foolish. His advice was so f*cked up. What did I just do?”

Do you think the bartender's advice was foolish? Let me know in the comment section.
Chapter 84The Stolen JournalAmara's POVI drove to Caroline's house while she was at a political event. I knew she would be gone for at least three hours and that gave me enough time. I would be able to search the house for anything else she might be hiding from me about my mother.I used the spare key I still had from when I lived there and let myself in through the back door. The house was empty and quiet just like I hoped it would be.I started in Caroline's office going through her desk drawers and filing cabinets. Everything there was just business documents and political papers and nothing about my mother or the estate. Then I remembered the attic. When I was younger, Caroline told me never to go up there and said it was dangerous because the floor was weak. I wondered if she just did not want me to find something.I pulled down the attic ladder from the hallway ceiling and climbed up with my phone flashlight on. There was no light up there. When I reached the top, I saw boxes
Chapter 83The Mafia GhostDamian's POVI was in my office going through paperwork when my assistant buzzed. She said there was someone here to see me without an appointment. When I asked who it was, she said the man refused to give his name but insisted I would want to see him."Send him in," I said with a bad feeling in my gut.The door opened and a man walked in wearing an expensive suit. I recognized him immediately even though it had been almost fifteen years since I last saw him.Marcus Romano. He was one of the top enforcers back when I ran with the mafia. Seeing him standing in my office made my blood run cold because nothing good ever came from Marcus showing up."Hello Damian. It's been a long time," Marcus said and sat down in the chair across from my desk without being invited."What are you doing here Marcus?" I asked."Can't an old friend stop by to say hello?" he said with a smile that did not reach his eyes."We were never friends. We were business associates. Now tell
Chapter 82The Hospital ScareAmara's POVI woke up at three in the morning to the sound of my daughter crying. When I went to check on her, I felt her forehead and it was burning hot. My heart started racing because I knew something was wrong”"Mummy……. my tummy…….it hurts," she whimpered and her voice sounded weak and scared.I picked her up and she felt like she was on fire. I ran to get the thermometer and when I checked her temperature it read one hundred and four degrees. I felt panic rising in my chest.I called Maria but she did not answer because it was the middle of the night. I grabbed my phone and dialed nine one one and the operator answered and said "What's your emergency?""My daughter has a fever of one hundred and four. She says her stomach hurts and she won't stop crying. I don't know what to do. Please…..I need your help," I said."Alright. I understand the situation at hand is a lot, but I currently need you to calm down. How old is your daughter?" the operator aske
Chapter 81The Business SacrificeDamian's POVI sat in the conference room with five of the biggest investors in the country. They had just presented me with a deal that would make me one of the richest men in the world, but as I read through the contract my stomach started to turn."So let me make sure I understand this correctly. You want me to acquire the remaining Benson family assets and liquidate them as part of this merger?" I asked."Exactly. The Benson properties are worth about two hundred million but they're tied up in legal disputes right now. If you can acquire them and add them to the deal then we can move forward and you'll walk away with triple your current net worth," the lead investor said."And how exactly am I supposed to acquire assets that are currently in dispute?" I asked."We have connections with Caroline Benson. She's willing to sell them to you at a reduced price if you help her deal with some legal problems she's having with her stepdaughter. Something ab
Chapter 80The DNA TrapAmara's POVI drove to Caroline's house with Potty in her carrier on the passenger seat and a DNA testing kit in my purse. I needed proof that Caroline was not my biological mother and the only way to get that proof was to take it myself since she would never agree to be tested.I parked in front of the house and sat there for a minute gathering my courage because confronting Caroline was never easy. I knew this was going to get ugly fast."You ready girl?" I asked Potty and she meowed from inside her carrier.I grabbed the carrier and my purse and walked up to the front door. I rang the bell and waited with my heart pounding in my chest.Caroline opened the door and when she saw me standing there her face twisted into anger."What are you doing here Amara? I thought I made it clear you're not welcome," she said."We need to talk. Can I come in?" I asked."No. Whatever you have to say you can say it from there," she said."Fine. I know you're not my real mother
Chapter 79The Double LifeDamian's POVI was sitting at my desk going through paperwork when my personal phone rang. I almost did not answer but something told me I should."Hello?" I said."Is this Mr Ray?" a woman's voice asked and it took me a second to realize it was Amara. My heart started pounding because I did not expect her to track down this number. I quickly reached for the voice scrambler device I kept in my desk drawer for situations like this."Who is this?" I asked after turning on the scrambler which made my voice sound robotic and unrecognizable."My name is Amara Benson. I got this number from someone who said you could help me with a legal problem involving Caroline Benson," she said."I'm familiar with Caroline. What's the problem?" I asked and hated that I had to disguise my voice while talking to her."Her daughter Sisi just threatened to call child protective services and claim I'm an unfit mother. She said Caroline has connections and they're going to try to ta
