Ethan POV

I woke with a violent gasp, my body jerking upright as if yanked from death itself. Sweat drenched my skin, my heart slamming against my ribs so hard it hurt. For a second, the world didn’t feel real. Darkness pressed in from every corner, thick and suffocating, and I could still see it—still hear it.

Sylvester standing across from me.

The gun in his hand.

The way his eyes had been empty, almost calm, as he raised it.

I squeezed my eyes shut, but it didn’t help. The dream replayed anyway. I was back there, frozen in place, watching him pull the trigger without hesitation. The sound of the shot had echoed like thunder, tearing through me. I remembered looking down, seeing blood bloom across my chest, feeling my legs give out. I hit the ground hard, the cold seeping into my bones as life drained from me. I remember thinking, absurdly, that I never even felt the pain.

Just silence.

Just darkness.

“Ethan?”

Claire’s voice cut through the memory, soft but sharp with concern. I suc

Amelia POVThe next morning unfolded like every other, painfully ordinary. I moved through the kitchen on autopilot, cracking eggs, flipping pancakes, slicing fruit, pretending routine could stitch together what was unraveling. The smell of coffee filled the air, rich and familiar, and for a brief moment I let myself believe today could be different. That maybe last night had been a crack, not a break.“Breakfast’s ready,” I called softly as I set plates on the table. No answer.I wiped my hands on a towel and walked down the hallway, pausing outside the bedroom. Ethan was already dressed, tugging on his jacket with sharp, hurried movements.“I made your favorite,” I said carefully. He didn’t look at me. “I’m not hungry.”“You barely ate yesterday.”“I’m late,” he replied, voice clipped. He reached for his keys, already halfway out the door.“Ethan,” I tried again, my chest tightening. “Can we talk later?”He hesitated, just for a second, then nodded without meeting my eyes. “We’ll se

Ethan povI buried myself in work like it was the only thing keeping me upright. Meetings blurred into calls, calls into numbers, numbers into strategies I refined with ruthless precision. If I stayed focused, if I stayed sharp, I didn’t have to think about Claire’s distant eyes or the hollow space beside me in bed. Work was clean. Predictable. It didn’t recoil when I reached for it.I was reviewing quarterly projections when my office door slammed open so hard the glass rattled.I didn’t have time to look up before hands closed around my collar, fingers digging into my throat.Sylvester.My father’s face was twisted with fury, veins bulging as he slammed me back against the desk. Pain exploded through my shoulders, but I didn’t fight him. I just smiled. The first punch landed square on my jaw.My head snapped to the side, copper flooding my mouth. The second punch came fast, cracking against my cheekbone. The room spun, but I laughed—a low, breathless sound that only enraged him more

  • The Billionaire’s Forgotten Bride   Chapter 140 - A surge of anger

Ethan POVI slammed the bedroom door harder than I meant to, the sound echoing down the hallway like a gunshot. The house fell into a suffocating silence immediately after, the kind that pressed against my chest until it was hard to breathe.Again.It had happened again.Five years. Five damn years of trying, hoping, waiting—only to end up here, standing alone in a dark room while my wife recoiled from my touch like I was something she no longer recognized.I raked a hand through my hair and paced the room, my footsteps restless, erratic. Anger burned through me, hot and sharp, but underneath it was something far worse. Fear.I’d done everything right. Or at least, I’d tried to. I’d been patient when doctors said she might never remember her past. I’d been gentle when she woke up every morning looking at me like I was a stranger she’d learned to tolerate. I’d built a life around her recovery, around Luke, around the fragile balance we called a marriage. And still… she wouldn’t let me

Amelia POVI ran to my car like the ground was on fire, my heels scraping pavement as the door slammed shut behind me. The silence inside the vehicle was loud, broken only by the frantic rhythm of my breathing. My hands shook as I gripped the steering wheel, knuckles white, heart hammering so violently it felt like it wanted to escape my chest. I stared at my reflection in the windshield, wide eyed and flushed, and barely recognized the woman staring back at me.I couldn’t believe how close it had been. How close we had been. One second more and my lips would have been on Maxwell’s, my resolve dissolving into something reckless and irreversible. The phone ringing had saved me, or ruined me. I wasn’t sure which terrified me more. What I didn’t understand was the feeling. The heat. The pull. I hadn’t felt it in years, not since before everything shattered. I told myself I was afraid, that I ran because I was protecting what little stability I had built. But deep down, I knew the truth w

  • The Billionaire’s Forgotten Bride   Chapter 138- That scary night

Maxwell POVI stopped without realizing it, the words drying in my throat as the memory pressed too close to my chest. The lake rippled softly in front of us, moonlight stretching across the water like fractured glass. I hadn’t meant to pause, but suddenly the weight of everything I was saying settled deep in my bones.Claire tilted her head, studying me. “Why did you stop?” she asked gently.I exhaled, rubbing the back of my neck. “I need a drink,” I said. “This part… it’s harder to say.”She didn’t push. She only nodded and stood, walking beside me as we followed the curve of the lake toward the small bar tucked beneath the trees. The night air was cool, grounding. I welcomed it. We each took a glass, the clink of ice echoing too loudly in the quiet.Claire smiled softly as we walked again. “I just want you to know,” she said, “I’ve never heard a story like yours. It’s painful, but it’s honest. Thank you for trusting me with it.”Her words settled somewhere warm and unexpected. I no
