 Cassian’s POV

I sat behind the table in my top-floor office, staring down at the financial reports spread across the surface while my cell phone kept buzzing repeatedly against the edge of my laptop. Liora had been calling me every thirty minutes since early morning, demanding that I set aside time today to plan a lavish engagement party, but every single time her name flashed across the screen, I simply ignored the call and let it go straight to voicemail.

"Mr. Virelli, your ten o'clock meeting with the regional managers was rescheduled for this afternoon," my secretary said, stepping into the room and setting a fresh cup of coffee on the corner of the table. "Is there anything else you need before I head down to the main lobby to grab the daily mail?"

"No, that will be all for now," I answered, keeping my eyes fixed on the numbers in front of me while taking a quick sip of the hot liquid, "just make sure you block out my schedule for the rest of the morning because I do not want any unexpected visitors coming up to this floor."

"Of course, sir," she replied, stepping back toward the double doors and closing them quietly behind her as she left the room.

I leaned back in my chair, rubbed my tired eyes with my hands, and let out a long breath, thinking about how Liora had been pushing me for months to officially announce our upcoming wedding to the public, even though I had repeatedly told her that I was too busy with company operations to worry about parties.

Before I could pick up my pen to return to work, the office doors swung wide open without any warning, and the sound of confident heels clicking against the floor made me snap my head up in annoyance, fully expecting to see Liora standing there ready to complain about her unanswered calls.

My voice froze in my throat, and my pen slipped right out of my fingers to the papers below, because the woman stepping into my office was not Liora at all.

Elaris walked directly toward my table, wearing a crisp, expensive suit that fit her perfectly, carrying herself with an effortless air of power and complete confidence that made her look like an entirely different person from the quiet, timid girl who had left my mansion six years ago.

"What... what are you doing here?" I managed to ask, standing up from my chair slowly while staring at her in utter disbelief, unable to pull my eyes away from her face.

"Good morning, Cassian," Elaris said, her voice smooth, steady, and completely devoid of any emotion as she stopped right in front of my table, "I see you are still working out of the exact same office after all these years."

"Elaris, where have you been for the past six years?" I demanded, taking a step around the side of the table toward her while my heart pounded against my ribs, "You vanished into thin air overnight, you never called anyone in my family, and nobody could track down a single trace of you anywhere in the country."

"Where I have been for six years is entirely none of your concern," she replied calmly, opening her small bag, pulling out a file folder, and setting it down on top of my financial reports, "I am not here to catch up on the past, nor am I interested in small talk with you."

"Then why did you walk into my building like this without making an appointment?" I asked, looking down at the folder on the table before raising my eyes back to her face, "You can't just show up after six years and act like a complete stranger."

"I came here because you left a very important piece of business unfinished," Elaris explained, tapping her slim finger against the plastic cover of the folder, "six years ago, you handed me signed divorce papers, but you failed to complete the final court registration with the city registry office, which means our marriage is technically still recorded in the official system."

"You came back just to discuss the divorce papers?" I asked, feeling an unexpected wave of bitterness rise up in my chest as I looked at her calm expression.

"I came back to make you sign the final confirmation registry right now," she stated firmly, pulling a black pen from her pocket and placing it directly beside the folder, "I have already signed my part of the registry forms, so all I need from you is your final signature on the second page so my lawyer can submit everything to the city court before noon today."

"And if I refuse to sign it right now?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest while narrowing my eyes at her, "You vanished for six full years without saying a word, and now you expect me to drop everything and sign whatever you place on my table within two minutes of walking in?"

"Refusing to sign will not change anything, Cassian," Elaris said, looking me straight in the eyes without flinching for a single second, "our marriage ended the exact moment I walked out of your house six years ago, and I am simply here to clean up your old legal mistake so I can move forward with my life without your name attached to mine."

"Is there someone else?" I blurted out before I could stop myself, stepping closer to her until only a few inches separated us across the edge of the table, "Is that why you suddenly care so much about finishing this paperwork today?"

"My personal life does not belong to you anymore, Cassian," Elaris answered coolly, stepping back slightly to maintain her distance while pointing down at the papers, "sign the document so we can both move on with our lives, because I have no intention of wasting another minute standing in this room with you."

Cassian’s POVI sat completely alone behind my table in the dimly lit study, staring blankly at the dark screen of my laptop while the absolute silence of the mansion heavy around me made every single thought in my head echo with intense frustration and confusion.I leaned my back against the leather chair, pressed my palms firmly against my face, and tried to make sense of the wild chaos that had consumed my life ever since Elaris walked into my corporate office earlier this morning demanding my signature on our old divorce registry. No matter how hard I tried to focus on my financial work, my mind kept drifting straight back to the riverfront restaurant, replay after replay of the exact moment I shoved Liora's hand away from that little boy named Casey.I firmly believed in my heart that I had never once touched Elaris during the entire two years of our marriage, because I had spent those two years remaining cold, distant, and completely separate from her out of resentment for how s

Liora’s POVThe driver pulled the black car up to the front entrance of the Virelli mansion, and the second the vehicle came to a complete stop, I hurried out of the passenger seat without waiting for help, holding my orange-stained dress together with one hand while my five-year-old son Stanley sat quietly in the back seat with his nanny.I rushed straight up the front steps, led Stanley into the living area, and sat him down on the long sofa just as Cassian walked into the hallway through the front doors, his expression completely dark and distant after everything that had happened at the restaurant."Cassian, please, you have to listen to me before you make any sudden decisions about us," I cried out, stepping directly into his path while tears streamed down my cheeks, "I know I lost my temper at the restaurant, but I was just so overwhelmed and hurt by how Elaris treated me after all these years.""I told you at the restaurant that I do not want to hear any more of your excuses to

Elaris’ POVI pulled Casey tightly into my arms as the restaurant manager and his security guards stepped between us and Cassian, while the entire dining room full of people stared at us in complete silence."If you or Liora ever approach my children again, Cassian, I will make sure the police and my legal team handle you publicly," I said, keeping my voice loud and clear so every single person in the room could hear every word, "you have no right to come near my family, and I am warning both of you right now to stay away from us forever.""Elaris, please just listen to me for one second," Cassian called out, trying to take a step past the security guards, but Enzo stepped right in front of him, blocking his view completely."She gave you her final answer, Virelli," Enzo said, taking Cassandra's small hand while looking at Cassian with absolute coldness, "do not make another mistake today."We turned around and walked straight out of the doors, where our driver was already waiting wi

  • The Billionaire's Forgotten Savior   Chapter Thirteen

Cassian’s POVI followed Liora’s taxi through the city traffic after my investigator informed me that she had skipped her lunch delivery and was tracking Elaris’ car downtown. The moment my driver pulled up to the valet entrance of the riverfront restaurant, I stepped out onto the sidewalk, bypassed the host stand without saying a word, and walked straight into the dining room.A loud commotion was coming from the center of the room, and as I cleared the tall decorative plants near the aisle, I saw Liora screaming at the top of her lungs, her white dress soaked in orange juice as she reached down and aggressively grabbed the arm of six-year-old Casey, who was crying uncontrollably in his chair."Look at what you did to my dress, you worthless little creature!" Liora shrieked, her fingers digging deep into the boy's small arm as she shook him violently. An overwhelming rage surged through my entire body, and before Elaris or Enzo could even take another step forward, I closed the distan

Elaris’ POVThe waiter had just set down our drinks and taken our food orders when I noticed a shadow falling across the edge of our table, making me look up from my glass of water to see Liora standing right beside my chair with a fake, sweet smile plastered across her face."Elaris, I truly could not believe my eyes when I saw you walking through the restaurant," Liora said, smoothing down her designer white dress while looking down at me with a soft, pitying expression, "it has been six whole years since you abandoned the family without saying goodbye to anyone, so I just had to come over and see how you were doing after living out of the city for so long.""We are in the middle of a private family meal, Liora," I replied, my voice dropping into a cold tone as I rested my hands on the table, "so unless you have a legitimate reason to be standing near my children, I suggest you walk back to your own seat.""Oh, don't be so defensive, Elaris," Liora continued, letting out a small

Cassian had been ignoring my phone calls all morning, so I decided to drop by his office unannounced to remind him about our engagement party plans and make sure he knew I was still the most important person in his life."Good morning, Miss Liora," the head receptionist said, stepping out from behind her counter to smile at me, "are you heading up to Mr. Virelli's private office?""Yes, I am bringing him lunch since he was too busy to pick up his phone today," I replied, keeping my voice sweet and gentle as I walked past her toward the private VIP elevator bank at the back of the lobby. Before I could swipe my keycard to call the elevator down, the indicator light flashed green, and the heavy doors slid open right in front of my face.I took a half-step back
