MasukSOME ENEMIES WEAR SUITS, OTHERS SMILES, BUT ALL LEAVE FOOTPRINTS;
For a long moment I didn't touch it. My eyes simply trace the edges of the package.
Someone has taken his time to send this… Someone who knows exactly where my office is… Someone confident enough not to hide the delivery.
I finally reach forward, my fingers brush the lid. The cardboard feels light. Too light for something important but this only makes it worse.
I slowly slide the box closer.
The faint sound of the cardboard shifting echoes in the quiet office.
I open the first flap…. Nothing happens. No sound, no movement. I open the second flap… Still nothing.
Inside is another smaller black container.
My expression didn't change, but my eyes sharpens.
“Interesting,” I murmur softly.
Whoever sent this wants my curiosity.
They want the tension.
I lift the smaller box out and place it carefully on the desk. This one has a seal, a thin strip of black tape across the lid.
My fingers hovers around it like the air itself is watching.
I exhale quietly.
Then I peel the tape away, the sound is soft. But in the silent room, it feels loud.
I lift the lid slowly.
I freeze.
My eyes narrows slightly, the box is almost empty, but something sit inside. Small, Flat… A card.
I didn't touch it yet.
My gaze remains lock on the object resting at the bottom of the package because something about it feels deliberate. Calculating. Like a message waiting to speak.
I lean forward slowly, the shadow from the window falling across the open box.
Whoever sent this… Wants my attention. And they have it.
Inside the card: “ Grey cycle.”
And underneath a message etche carefully.
“Watch your step, Mrs Carter. Some shadows never leave the room.”
I hold it in my hand reading it twice.
Then I smile faintly, “perfect.” I whisper. “Now I know exactly where to aim.”
…
It begins with a simple observation.
Evan and I are in the office late at night, reviewing contracts and grey cycle connections. The building is silent, save from hum of computers. I notice two shadowy figures entering the small courtyard adjacent to the building.
“Marcus and Judy,” I whisper.
Evan follows my gaze. “They shouldn't be here.”
I smile faintly. “Exactly.”
I motion for him to remain silent.
“Watch the full entrance. I want full coverage. I'm going to see what they think they can hide.”
I move slowly along the corridor, my black dress blending into the shadows, heels soft against the floor. My presence is almost ghost like. Every step is calculating. Every sound measuring.
From a slightly ajar window, I observe the pair.
Marcus is talking quickly, gesturing toward documents and files he had pulled from my company's restricted archives.
I did not need to hear their exact words to understand: they are coordinating plans to undermine my authority and claim part of the inside business for themselves.
They believe no one is watching. But just as am about to leave. Judy kiss Marcus, forcing her tongue between his lips and into his mouth. He moans and his arms embraces her, pulling her to him.
I return to my office quietly, but my mind still racing at what I saw.
I didn't cry… I shouldn't cry. But, a feeling of hatered runs in my blood. Because today, I have finally caught them in the act.
My phone buzz. An anonymous text appears.
“We know what you're doing.”
I smile, then type back calmly.
“Then you know nothing.”
I put the phone down.
The grey cycle, Marcus, Judy - they all believe they are hiding in shadows.
They are wrong.
AMANDA CARTER IS THE SHADOW NOW.
…
The city elites gather beneath crystal chandeliers and soft gold lightning at the annual faith and heritage gala - a public event Mrs Blackwood never missed. It is her stage. Her throne.
She arrives exactly on time, dress in white lace and pearls, her posture rigid with self-righteous pride. Cameras flashes. Church leader, politicians, business owners, and society matrons surrounds her like obedient disciples.
“Mrs. Blackwood, you look radiant,” a reporter said.
“She smiles thinly. “Radiance comes from living a clean and godly life.”
Across the hall, I just arrive - as always, late. But not carelessly late… Deliberately late.
I step in wearing black silk, fitting but elegant. A gold necklace hang on my neck. My hair is cut sharply on my shoulders, my makeup soft but commanding. Beside me is Evan calm and watchful.
The room shifts.
Whispers spreads like smoke.
“That's Amanda Carter?”
“She used to wear only white…”
“She looks like royalty now.”
Marcus, standing near his mother, stiffens the moment he sees me.
Judy smile freeze.
Mrs Blackwood follow their gaze - and her face darkens. “Why is that devil here?” She mutters.
Marcus force a smile. “She's… part of the doners.”
Mrs Blackwood sniffs. “Doners should dress decency.”
My eyes meets with Mrs Blackwood and I smile. And I smile. Not sweet. Not shy. A smile that says: I remember everything you did to me.
SOME KINDNESS IS SHARPER THAN A BLADE;In my first life - this same woman had humiliated me endlessly.Too poor in spirit. Too soft. Too weak in faith. But this Amanda, is not broken rather, she breaks people.-I cross from where I stand slowly, every step confident. The crowd part without realizing it.Marcus whispers “Mother, she's coming here.”Mrs Blackwood straightens. “Good. I'll teach her manners.”But before she can speak again - I open my arms and embrace her publicly… Tightly… Warmly.Camera's flashes and gasps fill the hall.“My beautiful future mother-in-law,” I said sw

SHADOW'S IN THE GREY CYCLE;The sharp glow of headlights cut through the dim parking garage as I turn slowly.Marcus step out of the black car, the door shutting behind him with a quiet but heavy thud. The light from the ceiling lamps traces the sharp lines of his face as he walks toward me.His eyes moves briefly to the direction of the man pointing who just left then back to me.“What are you doing here?” he ask calmly.I tilt my head slightly, as if confuse by the question. “Going to my car.”Marcus’s gaze hardens.“That’s not what I meant.” He stops a few steps away from me. “Why were you eavesdropping on that man’s conversation?”For a moment, the air between us grow still.I didn’t panic.
