Reena felt her eyes twitch at his words, she didn't need his help, she had already gotten free. He was just there to claim the prize.

"I could have handled it." She spat, her eyes sparkling with ire, but he smiled slightly at the sight.

"Are you laughing right now?!" Reena spluttered. " I almost died in that cave, you fiend!" She shrieked, but he was no longer looking at her now, instead his head was cocked as he surveyed their surroundings, and his stance immediately warned Reena of danger.

"Get in the car." He ordered, his hands already going for something in his sleeve, and before Reena could question him, he flung two daggers right past her ears, and she stiffened. Was he trying to kill her?

But an answering cry from behind, answered her question.

It was time to run.

The car waited at the edge of the clearing, black metal glinting faintly under a slice of moonlight. It was sleek, alive, its engine already purring like a restless animal.

Caelan pulled open the driver’s door, and

The hum of the Pandora pressed into Reena’s bones, steady, merciless, like it was memorizing her heartbeat. Leon’s palm still rested on its sleek black surface, his jaw set like stone, while the buff guard’s stare drilled into her from the side. Too close. Too knowing. Her grip on the baton tightened. One wrong breath, one wrong twitch, and she’d be dragged to the floor before she could blink. Then Caelan’s voice slid into her ear, silk over steel.“Count to three.”Her chest was constricted. He never helped. He never risked himself for her. What game was he playing now?“Caelan…” she started, low under her breath.“Three,” he whispered again, as calm as if they were discussing wine choices instead of her life, the bastard. Her pulse spiked. She was not ready. She could barely breathe, there's no way she was pulling off a one man heist. Even the agency was considerate on the missions they assigned her. But Caelan? Oh, Caelan was surely going to be her death. Period.“One.”The buff gu

“In position!” A buff guard barked as he took Reena by the shoulders and shoved her into place, which was right in the middle of the room, which coincidentally was close to the Pandora, and Reena struggled to keep her expression neutral.“I have never seen you before.” He growled softly as he leaned into Reena, his humid breath clouding her head.“You have. I work here, Sir.” Reena murmured, hanging her head low again. She was not blending as well as she should have, and it was causing her hackles to rise.“What division are you?” He asked again, already nodding to someone behind Reena, and she shifted on her feet, slowly getting into a fighting stance.Somehow, she hoped that Caelan was listening, that he would not leave her to die, but she also knew better than to wait for someone to save her, no one had ever done that, and it was not about to change.“Maintenance,” she muttered, half-muffled, just loud enough for the guard to hear. The buff man’s eyes narrowed. His face was too cl

Ditching her new companions was a piece of cake to Reena. To a trained agent, everything and anything could be used as a weapon. So as they were putting finishing touches on their already flawless makeup, she discreetly ungloved one hand and filled it with water from the sink.“Hey ladies?” Reena called, and they stopped their chatter to look at her curiously. “I am really sorry about this.”Their eyes widened, but before they could do anything about it, Reena swung the water she held cupped in her palms already expertly mixed sedatives and flung it at them, and she watched with a smile as they dropped in a faint. After making sure they could not be found easily, she opened the backdoor and stepped through it quietly, making sure there were no cctvs around to capture her movements. For this to work, she had to remain undetected.“Where are you?” Caelan’s voice came in from the earpiece he had personally stuck to her ear.“I found the door, I am going in.” Reena answered, before movin

Reena swung out of the car effortlessly. Her dark blue dress slipped over her legs like gossamer, and her dark stilettos accentuated the elegance of her feet. And although she was nervous, terrified even, her acting had already begun. And despite her fear and apprehension of Caelan, she slid one beautifully gloved hand around his proffered one, her movements sure and precise. At that moment, she was no longer Reena Walters, but Agent Thirteen, trained in the art of extraction. She was not going to die tonight, not when things with the agency were still so muddied, not when she was not sure about William, and not when Caelan still breathed.“It's time, show me what you’ve got, Senora.” He whispered with a smirk as they moved through the double doors.“ The man of the hour, Caelan Thorne!” A voice hollered the minute they stepped through, and Caelan sucked in a sharp breath that was only audible to Reena before his lips twisted into a sharp grin, and he threw back his head in an answer

CAELAN Caelan could not believe that that shitty Leon Romano had gotten his hands on such precious prototype before he could even finish collecting his intel on it, and this shame on the Thorne clan could not be overlooked, hence why his older but illegitimate brother Mason was currently strapped to a chair before him.“You assured me that the prototype was still just a blueprint. Why did you lie?” Caelan asked him, his voice calm, light even, and many of the many guards standing around could probably have sworn that they saw a flash of affection cross his eyes as he regarded his brother, but that was the deceptive nature of Caelan, he was a fox through and through. But that fact did not bother him as he stood above his brother, because if Caelan was a fox, then his brother was definitely a snake; disloyal and brutal.“I had no idea, brother.” Mason swore, but his words caused a frisson of anger to run through Caelan, yet he refrained from showing it, showing emotions meant his brot
