THE PRISONER

(Damien's POV)

Marcus threw me onto my bed like I was a bag of garbage. I landed hard on my shoulder and groaned. The pain in my head flared up again, hot and throbbing.

I rolled over and glared at him. "Get out."

Marcus stood there for a moment, his expression blank as always. Then he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black case.

My stomach dropped. "What is that?"

He did not answer. He just opened the case. Inside was a syringe filled with clear liquid.

"No." I scrambled backwards on the bed, pressing myself against the headboard. "No, stay away from me."

Marcus walked towards me with slow, and deliberate steps.

"I said stay away!" I tried to kick at him but my body was too slow. He grabbed my ankle and yanked me towards him.

I fought, I threw punches, scratched at his face, and tried to knee him in the groin. But it was useless. He was so much stronger than me.

He flipped me onto my stomach and pinned me down with one arm across my back. The weight was c

THE EVIDENCE(Serena's POV)The flight to California was long and painful. Every bump of turbulence sent shooting pains through my cracked ribs. Lysander sat across from me, his head wrapped in bandages. Elena was stretched out on one of the plane's beds, her broken leg elevated. We barely spoke during the flight. We were all too exhausted, too hurt, too overwhelmed by what had happened. When we finally landed at Lysander's private airfield, there were medical staff waiting. They helped us into cars and drove us to his estate. The estate was massive. Even in my drugged, pain fogged state, I could see it was more of a compound than a house. High walls, security cameras everywhere, armed guards at the gate."This is your home?" I asked weakly."One of them," Lysander said, tiredly. "My grandmother insisted on the security. She's always been paranoid about enemies."We were brought inside and settled into guest rooms. Mine was larger than my entire apartment. A doctor came and checked on

THE RECKONING(Damien's POV)Time stopped having any meaning in the wine cellar. It was just darkness and cold. The throbbing in my head was a constant drumbeat of pain. The cut on my temple had stopped bleeding, but the skin was tight and sore. I was shivering, my thin clothes no match for the damp chill of the stone floor.I had screamed until my voice was a ragged scratch in my throat. I had pounded on the thick wooden door until my fists were bruised. No one came. The house above me was silent. The dinner party was over. The Harringtons were gone. I was forgotten.I slumped against the door, my body aching with exhaustion and despair. I thought about Serena. Was she okay? The photo of her at the docks haunted me. Eleanor knew she was investigating. What would she do to stop her?The thought was a physical pain worse than the concussion.I must have fallen asleep, because the sound of the key turning in the lock jolted me awake. The door swung open. Light from the hallway stabbed a

THE TRIUMPH(Serena's POV)From my seat at Table One, I watched the Blackwood family's humiliation with cold satisfaction.Eleanor, sitting at the back table like a forgotten relic, her face twisted with rage. Victoria, red-faced and whispering furiously into her phone. And Damien...Damien looked broken. Defeated. Like a man finally understanding that the war was over."They actually came," Dr. Cole said quietly, following my gaze."Of course they came. Eleanor's too proud to admit defeat. She needed to see what she'd lost."Lucas Kane leaned closer. "Security is concerned. Eleanor's been making threats since her release.""Let her threaten. She's powerless now." I smiled.Jaxon Reed stood up on stage, adjusting the microphone. "Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we're honoring the children of New York. And no one has done more for children's health and education than our next speaker."The spotlight found me. The crowd erupted in applause.I stood gracefully, smoothing down my silver dre

THE ACCIDENT(Serena's POV)We drove to the Brooklyn docks in tense silence. I sat in the passenger seat of Lysander's car, staring out the window at the city passing by. Elena was in the back, quiet for once.My mind kept replaying the scene at the clinic. Damien was hurt at Lysander's harsh words. And I had said nothing to defend Damien.Had I been too harsh? Should I have stepped in?No. Lysander was right. Damien needed to hear the truth. He had spent his whole life being coddled and protected. Someone had to tell him he was failing.“We're almost there," Lysander said, breaking the silence.I nodded. The docks appeared ahead of us. Industrial buildings and shipping containers lined the waterfront. In the fading evening light, everything looked gray and cold.Lysander parked near the area that was still cordoned off with police tape. We got out of the car and walked towards it.A different police officer was on duty now. He was older, with gray hair and a tired expression."Can I

THE ATTACK(Damien's POV)As I stood there trying to decide, I heard footsteps in the hallway.Someone was coming.I quickly shoved my phone into my pocket and turned towards the door. Maybe it was Victoria looking for me. Or one of the servants checking to see if we needed anything. But when the door opened, it was not Victoria or a servant. It was Marcus. The security guard. The one I had threatened to have assassinated. The one who had been sleeping with Eleanor."What are you doing here?" I asked. My voice came out sharper than I intended.Marcus stepped into the study and closed the door behind him. His face was blank, emotionless. Like a mask."Mrs. Blackwood sent me," he said quietly.Something in his tone made my stomach drop. "Sent you for what?"Marcus did not answer. He just kept walking towards me with that same blank expression.I backed up. "Stay away from me. I'm warning you.""You've done enough warning, Mr. Blackwood." Marcus said.He moved fast. Faster than I expecte
