Heather's POV"Heather! Your dreamboat boyfriend is here to see you!" Lucy exclaims from the living room,Heather drags herself out of bed to go see Casey, even though there is a large part of her that doesn't want to move. She is the new forensic accountant at JR Global and therefore is given most of the tedious grunt work. The rumors about her and Casey have carried over to the new company, and the boy's club is enjoying her misery. Heather is trying not to let it bother her though. Before her mother was killed, JR Global was her dream. They have the most impressive forensic accountants in the world and are highly sought after. Now that she has justice for her mother she can pursue her dreams. The one downside of working her dream job is that she sees far less of Casey.Heather enters the living room and sees her boyfriend sitting on the couch sharing coffee with Lucy. Those two bonded over their love of high-end coffee and Casey has been happily bribing Lucy with specialty coffee
Heather's POVHeather rushes into the elevator as the door is closing, slightly breathless."Hey, Heather! Where are you rushing off to this morning?" her colleague Mark asks. "Oh, I have been summoned to the executive floor to meet with the COO immediately. What about you Mark? Who is in desperate need of IT help first thing in the morning?" Heather responds, hoping the light conversation will keep her nerves in check."Someone in Marketing is having a meltdown because they cannot access their presentation. Nowhere near as exciting as you having a meeting with the heir apparent," Mark says with a laugh."I don't even know why he would want to see me. I have never met Casey Sullivan let alone been in the same room as him." Heather doesn't bother to hide her confusion. "Well, maybe you are part of his plan to establish himself in the company. He has only been here three months and most people think he is just a yes man for his father. Having his own people could be good for our futur
Heather's POV"How was your day, my blonde goddess?"Heather cannot help but roll her eyes and smile at her best friend Lucy's greeting."Goddess, really? How many drinks have you had?" Heather says with a laugh."I may have had a couple of glasses at happy hour. My boss demanded the whole department go as some kind of bonding exercise. Completely ridiculous, but it means free drinks and I am still home by seven to hang out with my best friend to hear all about her day at Evil Incorporated," Lucy says with a smile on her face.Heather is so lucky to have a best friend that has supported her through the good, the bad, and the mundane ever since they met in middle school."First, the whole company isn't evil. I don't think so at least. And second, today was a big day. I finally have full access to Sullivan Solutions' financials for the past two years. It does mean I have a long night of work ahead of me, so just the one glass of wine for now," Heather responds, wanting to share the good
Casey POV"Mom, you look stunning as always," Casey says as he hugs her and kisses her cheek. "Thank you, darling. Such a flatterer, you get that from your father. But your punctuality you get from me," Christine responds, beaming at her eldest child.Christine Sullivan is a beautiful, statuesque woman wearing a sleeveless emerald green sheath dress and nude stilettos. Her auburn hair is done up in a stylish chignon and her neck is adorned in the diamond necklace her husband gifted her for their thirtieth wedding anniversary. Casey has enjoyed being around his family again, but the pressure they put on him is a large part of why he joined the military. For as long as he can remember Casey has known that it is his duty to take over as CEO of Sullivan Solutions when his father retires. He tried to be the good son and heir that his parents demanded. Casey kept out of trouble and graduated with honors in high school, college, and business school. But when it came time to join the family
Heather's POV"Hello, Heather. It is lovely to see you again." Casey is waiting for her as the doors to the elevator open onto the executive floor. "It's good to see you too Casey. I was surprised you wanted to meet so soon," Heather says respectfully."I want us to be on the same page with this investigation. Also, I thought it would be good to get to know each other better and ease any concerns." Casey casually states."Concerns?" Heather worriedly asks."If the press finds out that there has been someone stealing millions of dollars for years on end completely unchecked then there would be significant and possibly irreparable damage done to the company," Casey boldly states his greatest concern while a threatening undertone that Heather understands immediately."Casey I have no interest in running to the press with any of this. My career is just starting and I do not want to be known as the girl who turned on her employer the first chance she had. Discretion and loyalty are import
Casey POV"Dad, millions of dollars have been stolen from our company. We found over $3 million have gone missing in the past year alone. We have found even more suspicious transactions going back three years. Who knows how long this has been going on and how much money has been stolen," Casey shares the findings of the investigation with his father."Who is this "we", you are talking about Casey… Who is it who has such sensitive information about our company? Information that could destroy the company and the family if it ever went public! How could you be so– so stupid as to bring in other people before bringing this to me? I am the first and only person you come to when there is a problem connected to my company– Do I make myself clear?" Liam berates his son."Yes, sir," Casey responds.Casey finds himself slipping back into soldier mode when his father is like this. Liam Sullivan has always been a demanding and controlling man with high expectations for his eldest son. No matter w
Heather POV"Heather, what you are doing is way too risky. Now you are telling me that Liam Sullivan is personally aware of you. What if he connects you and your mother?" a young man in a police uniform aggravatedly paces in Heather's apartment."He won't, Tommy. I go by my father's last name and I look nothing like my mother. Besides, I doubt Liam Sullivan thinks about a woman he had murdered four years ago," Heather offers reassurance to the flustered man.Heather has known Tommy McNeil since they were seven years old and were both in Sister Paul Joseph's class in second grade. They were friends for years before Tommy asked her out sophomore year. He was Heather's first in every way and she loved him. Heather ended things after high school so she could enjoy college without anything holding her back. "Fine maybe he won't connect you to your mom, but that doesn't mean this plan is any less foolish. Why can't you let the police handle it? I haven't stopped looking into it, Heather,"
Casey POV"You look incredible."Casey stumbles when he sees Heather step out of the car. The dress looks better on her than he imagined. And he had imagined it a lot."Well, I suppose I have you to thank for that. This dress and everything, it's too much. You shouldn't have," Heather shyly thanks him."You deserve it. I wanted to do something after you had to endure meeting my father and the way he treated you. Plus, all work you have been doing for our investigation on top of your regular work should be rewarded somehow," Casey cannot stop his rambling justification as he continues to stare at the vision in front of him."I appreciate it, but I wasn't looking for a reward. I just want to find whoever is stealing from the company," Heather responds with a blush coloring her cheeks."Well, then I guess we should get inside and meet with Mr. O'Brien. Hopefully, we will get the answers we want." Heather loops her arm through his.Casey leads them into Cafe Angelique, the most expensive
