The Decision

★Stephen★★

I flung the door to my office open and walked in. So much for having a good day.

I was already dealing with the tantrums that my dad was throwing about me getting married. All year, that's all he's been saying whenever he got the chance and I'd be lying if I said I hadn't had enough.

My phone had dinged and I stopped to look down at it. It was a text he sent me for the umpteenth time today, threatening me about how he'd deal with me if I didn't settle down.

He didn't understand that if I married any lady right now, I'd just be bringing her as a trophy wife. I won't give her attention or show her love.

Women didn't deserve that. All of them, they were all lying filth.

That woman... that woman that had talked me down while I was downstairs, I needed to find out who she was and deal with her.

She clearly didn't know who I was, which was surprising, because I hadn't ever met anyone who didn't know me.

A knock on my door, brought me out of my thoughts and I said a “Come in."

James Jacobson, the General Manager, walked in with some files. He sat down on the chair at the other side of the table, directly opposite me.

“Sir, I have the shortlisted candidates from the interview today." He said.

He handed me the files and I looked through them, trying to find the most competent one.

I stopped at one particular candidate, the person had a master's degree and had accomplished a lot. What shocked me more was when I looked at the picture.

It was the woman I had met earlier. Her name was Sarah...She had come to apply for a job, yet she didn't know who she had come to work for.

I needed to teach her a lesson, she needed to control her tongue around people she didn't know, so I handed James back the file, already making my decision.

“Her... Sarah, Willing. She's the one I want."

“But sir, there are other candidates you haven't taken a look at. Perhaps, if you do, you'd find-" He tried to persuade me, but I wasn't having any of it.

“James, I've made my decision. Leave my office." I made sure he understood I wasn't going to change my mind.

He left my office and I continued with my work, thinking about how great it would be to teach that woman a lesson for embarrassing me .

My phone rang and I knew it was my receptionist. She was the only one who called me on this like, to inform me of women coming to my office, not being able to be stopped.

“Yes Mira, what is it this time?" I asked her, pressing the phone to my ear.

“Sir, a woman who claims to be your girlfriend is on her way to your office. I tried to stop her but she got away. She says her name is Clare."

“Thank you, Mira."

I knew Clare, she was the second reason I hated women. I wonder why she couldn't just let me be.

“Steve, hi baby." She came smiling and walking in.

I had loved Clare so much. We had attended high school together and had somehow ended up in the same college.

We spent a lot of time together and I think this was what led to our relationship that lasted from our second year in college till five years after that.

I was ready to marry Clare had she not done what I caught her doing. After that, she disgusted me and I couldn't look at her face or any other woman's.

The thought of women disgusted me and she stopped being attractive to me.

“How many times do I have to get it into your empty head, that I don't want you around me anymore?" I tried to sound as harsh as I could, but because , as usual, she was oblivious to everything, she waved it off.

“Stevey, you know I miss you. I just got back from my shopping in Paris and I decided to come see you. I tried calling and texting, but it wasn't going through. So, here I am." She said it like it was an achievement. This woman really annoyed me. I hated the nickname she gave to me.

“You can't reach me, because I blocked you. I don't want you talking to me or being near me."

She dropped her bag on the table and walked over to me, taking slow strides. She bent down, making her top drop and more of her cleavage show.

Before we stopped dating, things like that enticed me. Not anymore, though. Now, all I felt was that she was stupid.

“Tell me you don't miss this." She ran her hands across her chest, pulling her top further down.

“No, I do not, so get yourself out of my office. I have more important things to do, other than sit around all day watch you fool yourself.

That seemed to strike a nerve because she stood straight up, with a scowl on her face.

I took one last look at her to be sure that I felt nothing, and by the time I was down giving her entire body a look, I was sure it was over between Clare and I .

I felt no attraction whatsoever, so I was able to say, “Get out."

I didn't even need to look at her to know she was pouting again, hoping I'd see it and change my mind. When I looked up at her with a poker face and picked up my phone, she knew I was serious.

“I'm calling security. Get out." I threatened.

She stomped her feet like a child and picked up her bag, marching away angrily. I watched her leave, not being able to wait till she was out my door, so I'd have peace again.

“I know you miss me. I will get you back, Steve. I'll make sure of it."

She walked away after giving me one last menacing look. I couldn't be happier that she was out of my life.

I settled back in my chair and thought of my future plans .
