Margaret's POV

The lock on my suite door clicked shut, and the moment I was safely inside, my knees gave way.

I sank onto the soft carpet, leaned against the door, and pulled my knees to my chest. The quiet room filled with the sound of my shaky breathing before I finally broke down crying. Tears ran down my cheeks as six years of pain, doubt, and grief came rushing back all at once.

She's alive. She's really my baby.

My hands shook as I took out my phone and unlocked it to look at the picture

  • The Billionaire's Impossible Daughter    Chapter 21

Margaret's POVI almost lost my fucking mind right there in that pitch-black alley. My fingers moved across my phone screen like crazy as I opened every app, checked hidden folders, trash bins, cloud backups—anything. Nothing. All three ledger photos were gone from my phone as if they had never existed."No, no, no, fuck!" I screamed into the empty street, slamming my fist against the wet brick wall. Pain shot up my arm, but I barely felt it over the loud sound of panic in my ears. This wasn't some random street robbery. A random robber steals your phone, sells it for quick cash, and runs. They don't force your face onto facial recognition, spend five minutes deleting specific files, and then leave an expensive phone right beside your unconscious body.It was a planned attack. They had been tracking me. They knew I had the ledger, and they had deleted the only proof I had that connected Jasmine to me.Limping, holding my aching forehead, and trying to hold back my painful sobs, I made

The quiet room filled with the sound of my shaky breathing before I finally broke down crying. Tears ran down my cheeks as six years of pain, doubt, and grief came rushing back all at once. She's alive. She's really my baby.My hands shook as I took out my phone and unlocked it to look at the pictures of Dr. Harrison's ledger again. The handwriting, the date, the official seal—it was all there. I quickly called Leo. I needed to hear a familiar voice. I needed to tell him that I wasn't crazy. The phone rang four times before someone answered, but instead of Leo's voice, loud music blasted through the speaker."MARGARET?!" Leo shouted over the music. His voice sounded drunk and excited. "GIRL, I CAN'T HEAR A THING! I'M IN THE VIP SECTION AT THE DISTRICT! CAN I CALL YOU BACK TOMORROW?!""Leo,

Margaret's POV My breath caught in my throat as Dr. Harrison’s smooth voice echoed through the hallway. Every part of my body was shaking, and I had to grip the wooden doorframe just to keep myself standing. Six years. Six long, painful years, and the monster who took my baby was standing less than twenty feet away."It's okay, you know."A small voice whispered beside me, making me jump.I quickly looked down and saw Jasmine standing beside me. Her arms were crossed over her chest as she stared through the gap in the door at Dr. Harrison with clear disgust."Jasmine!" I whispered sharply, quickly pulling her away from the hallway. "What are you doing? You're supposed to be at the breakfast table!""I hate that doctor guy too," Jasmine said with a sigh, rolling her eyes. "He's so fake. Every time he comes here, he acts all nice to my dad, but then he gives me big, painful injections and calls me a liar whenever I say I feel fine. Plus, he smells like old medicine and peppermint. It's

Margaret's POV The ballroom fell into complete silence. The woman's wrist was trapped in Alexander's strong grip, her hand frozen just inches from my face. She gasped in shock and tried to pull away, but Alexander did not loosen his hold at all."Touch her," Alexander said quietly, his voice so cold that a chill ran down my spine, "and I will personally make sure your husband's company is ruined before the market closes today.""Alexander!" the woman stammered, her face turning red with embarrassment. "She ruined my dress! She's just a clumsy, useless—""My security team will pay for your dress," Alexander cut her off coldly. He let go of her wrist as if he were throwing away rubbish. "Get out of my sight. Now."The woman tried to speak, but one hard look from Alexander made her hold her stained silk dress and hurry away into the crowd. Before the other guests could start whispering, Alexander gently but firmly took my arm and led me away from the broken glass and spilled champagne.

Margaret's POV The midnight air was cold and damp as the cab dropped us two blocks away from the Vance estate.Leo was sweating despite the cold. He pulled his dark jacket tightly around himself and kept looking over his shoulder. "Margaret, I swear to God, if we get caught, I’m telling the police you kidnapped me and forced me to be your getaway driver.""You insisted on coming," I whispered, adjusting the small black backpack on my shoulders. "Just stay near the eastern tree line. If you see security guards or headlights coming down the main drive, call my phone twice and hang up.""Be careful," Leo muttered, his voice full of real concern. "Please."I quietly moved through the shadows toward the back wall of the estate. Since I had lived there for weeks, I knew where the security cameras could not see. Near the old greenhouse, a large oak tree had a thick branch hanging over the ten-foot stone wall, blocking the view of the camera above it.I took off my sneakers, tied them togeth

  • The Billionaire's Impossible Daughter    Chapter 16

Margaret's POV The sound of an approaching car came through the floor less than fifteen minutes later.I was sitting on the edge of the guest bed, holding an ice pack against my painful, bruised cheek while blood slowly dried around the torn fabric on my left shoulder. Across the room, Trisha sat curled up in an armchair, crying loudly into a silk handkerchief. Her hair was a mess, making her look as much like a victim as possible. Jasmine sat beside her, sniffing quietly with her leg bandaged, holding her iPad like a shield. When the bedroom door opened, the air in the room seemed to disappear.Alexander stood in the doorway. At first, he said nothing. His tall body seemed to fill the entire doorway. His suit was neat, but his face showed a frightening level of anger. His eyes moved over the mess in the room—the broken glass, the blood on the rug, the torn bedsheets—before looking at Jasmine, then Trisha, and finally stopping on me."Alexander! Thank God you're here!" Trisha cried,
