Chapter 21.

THERE'S TIME FOR EVERYTHING.

Brianna's POV.

“Here,” Milford said, offering me a cup of coffee. “It should help you relax.”

“Thank you.” I received it from him, and dropped it on the center table.

I watched as he walked over to the other side, and settled on the couch.

“I just need a break.” he said, rolling up his sleeves. “It has been a long day.”

He really didn't have to say the words. It was rather obvious from the look on his face that he was exhausted. However, since the moment he mentioned that I'd a stepbrother, I couldn't seem to get it off my mind.

Just a few days back, I was told that I'd a father, one who I'd never seen my whole life. And now? I have a stepbrother, it just didn't make any sense.

“Why don't you get some rest?” I suggested, with a shrug of my shoulder. “If you continue like this, there's every chance that you might break down. And I don't think you want to start nursing any sickness. Well, considering your age.”

Chapter 20.A NEW FAMILY.Brianna's POV.“He was sitting right there.” I said, pointing to the couch where he sat before I left the sitting room. “Where could he have gone to?” My voice shook with tears as I raked my eyes up and down the place.“Are you sure he was there before you left this place?” she asked. “It could have been that…” “Of course, I am!” I yelled, my eyes burning with tears. “I am certain that I saw him before I left this place; he was sitting right there. Where could he have gone to now?” “I am sure he's around somewhere.” she walked over to the window, and looked out through it.“Can you see him?” I asked, through the sob that strangled my throat. “Is he there?” There was some space behind her apartment which could serve as a playground.“No, he's not.” she slid the windows close, and turned to me. “I don't understand, where could he have gone to?” “Oh no, this is all my fault.” I buried my face in my palms and settled on the couch as I began to sob. “I should

Chapter 19.DRESSING FOR THE OCCASION.Brianna's POV.“Wait… you mean you're going to meet him like this?” she asked, raising a brow. “Are you being serious right now?” There was an edge to her voice.“I don't understand.” I said, shaking my head. “Is there something wrong with my dress?” “You don't see anything wrong in what you're putting on right now?” she asked, crinkling her face at the words. “For goodness’ sake! You're going to meet with him, whoever he is in a place like JefFlex and you want to look like that?” She made a face. From the look on her face, it made me feel as though I was on rags which was of course, not true. But then, she ought to understand that we were two different people. I was barely struggling to survive and make ends meet. Not just for myself, but for Jason too. But she? She had no child to take care of. Obviously, I'm not using that as an excuse. But if I had something better to put on, then I would have considered that option even before she mentio

Chapter 18.HAVE SOME FAITH!Brianna's POV.“Is it ringing?” Hayley asked, in a curious tone. “It is, but he's not picking up.” I sighed, scratching my head as I paced back and forth in the room. “I don't know why.” “You might want to sit, Brianna.” she suggested. I cocked a brow, and she shrugged. Sit? Really? How in the world did she expect me to sit when it felt like my life depended on Milford picking up his phone? Besides, why now? Although I couldn't tell what was going on with him. Perhaps, he left his phone somewhere, but why wouldn't he be with his phone when I finally decided to put a call across to him.“Sit?” I scoffed, shaking my head. “I don't think I want to sit right now. I need to speak to him.” “Yes, I know.” she said, in a soft voice. “However, you can never really tell what's going on with him right now. It could be that he's also busy. I mean, he's human too, so he would have a few things to attend to. I say let's give him some minutes before we ring his line

Chapter 17.CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.Brianna's POV.Although I couldn't say if his words were true, but for someone who sells newspapers, I don't think there was any reason for him to lie to me. I mean, that would only ruin his business. Besides, it was right there: the image of JetFlex. Even though I'd never seen it before, but it was right on the front page of the newspaper. Now that I think about it, I could have gotten it to read more about the happenings in the company.I sighed.“Are you sure you're okay?” Hayley asked, her fingers wrapped around the cup of tea sitting on her lap. “Since you got here you haven't said anything.” If I wasn't wrong, then that was the fifth, if not the sixth time that she'd asked that same question. And in that period, I don't think there was a time when I actually gave her a verbal response. All I did was smile at her, hoping that she would catch a hint, but it seemed like she was too concerned about the look on my face and my unusual silence. Meanwh

Chapter 16.A FUTURE AT STAKE.Brianna's POV.I slowly righted myself from the couch and narrowed my gaze as I glanced at my cellphone which was on the table. From where I stood, I didn't notice anything wrong with it. Or perhaps, I just didn't want to believe that something had happened to it just as Jason said. The thought that something had happened to my cellphone was what made my heart skip a beat earlier. However, I turned to him, to be sure if he knew exactly what he was saying. But then, he couldn't even meet my gaze. When things had gotten to the point where he couldn't meet my gaze, then there was something wrong. I took a step, and then another and then paused as I came close to the center table. I picked up my cellphone and glanced at it.“You have got to be kidding me.” I muttered the words under my breath, while blinking my eyes rapidly in shock.I turned to face him.“What happened to it?” I asked, with an edge to my voice. “How come it's this broken?” I could barel
