Moments later, the elevator chimed. The doors slid open.

And standing there, framed in the soft glow of the penthouse lights, was Anthony Lorenzo. Calm, composed, every inch the powerful man he was but there was something in his expression Aria had never seen before.

Beside him stood Alex, his usual easy smile replaced by a grim seriousness.

“Good evening, Ms. Williams,” Anthony said smoothly, his deep voice echoing through the silence. His gaze flicked briefly to Emma and Bella, then back to Aria. “We need to talk.”

Aria’s stomach twisted, her pulse quickening. Whatever this was, it wasn’t casual. Anthony Lorenzo did not come to people’s homes at night unless the stakes were deadly serious.

Emma rose from her chair, her protective edge sharp as steel. “And what exactly is so urgent that it couldn’t wait until morning?”

Anthony’s eyes never left Aria. “Because by morning, it may be too late.”

The air in the penthouse turned electric, the weight of his words pressing down on them all.

The boardroom was silent except for the flicker of the massive screen. The Shaws’ press conference played on repeat, Jackson’s cool smile twisting every time the camera caught his face.“Persistent. Manipulative. Obsessive.”The words hit harder each time.Nicolas sat at the head of the long mahogany table, his face unreadable, one hand loosely gripping his pen. The pen snapped in half without him noticing.Adrian leaned back in his chair, his tone deceptively casual. “So. The Shaws are making quite the spectacle. Calling her a parasite, showing those photos.” His eyes slid to Nicolas. “You believe it?”Damian’s laugh was low, humorless. “Strange, isn’t it? For years, Aria Williams was the darling of the charity circuit. Smart. Graceful. Untouchable. Now suddenly she’s a seductress trailing after Jackson Shaw? Doesn’t add up.”Nicolas’s jaw ticked, his silence heavier than any denial.Adrian swirled the scotch in his glass, his smirk sharp. “You’ve seen the photos, Nick. They’re damni

The whole day felt like a battlefield for Aria. Every step through the office was a trial by fire. Colleagues whispered loud enough for her to hear, snickers echoed behind her back, and papers “accidentally” fell in her path. They were hell-bent on taunting her, crushing her beneath the weight of their judgment.Aria pressed on, her laptop clutched tightly against her chest like armor. Her chin stayed high, her steps steady. But inside, her chest ached with every cruel word, every stolen glance.By the time the afternoon sun bled through the glass walls of the building, Ava and Lila had finally left, their laughter trailing down the hall like poison. The office quieted, but the damage was already done.At the elevator, Bella appeared at her side, her small hands clutching nervously at her cardigan. “Aria… are you okay?” she asked softly, her eyes filled with worry.Aria forced a faint smile, though her lips trembled. “I’m fine, Bella.”“You’re not,” Bella whispered, her voice breaking

The office was finally quiet. Ava and Lila had left, their laughter still echoing faintly in Aria’s mind. She sat frozen, her laptop clutched tightly to her chest, unable to fully process the devastation from the Shaw press conference. Her phone buzzed, and the name “Emma Hart” lit up the screen. Without hesitation, she answered.“Aria! I just saw the news. What the hell are they doing to you?” Emma’s voice was sharp, protective, and laced with fury.Aria exhaled shakily, her voice low. “It’s… it’s worse than I imagined, Emma. They’ve completely twisted everything. My family, my name… it’s a nightmare.”There was a brief pause, and then Emma’s tone hardened. “Listen to me. You don’t have to deal with this alone. I’ll handle everything the press, the Shaws, anyone who dares to touch you. You focus on yourself, your work, your health. I’ve got this.”Aria’s chest tightened. She shook her head, her fingers gripping the laptop. “No, Emma… you can’t. This will only damage your reputation.

The press room was a warzone of flashing lights and shouted questions. Jackson Shaw stood at the center, his parents flanking him like a wall of polished marble.“Mr. Shaw! Is it true you’ve been romantically linked with Aria Williams?”“Did she stalk you?”“Are the photos proof of an affair?”Jackson raised a hand, silencing the chaos with calculated ease. His expression was grave, every trace of his usual charm replaced by cold control.“Let’s put the rumors to rest,” he said smoothly. “Miss Williams was never my lover. But she was… persistent. She appeared at every event, every party, every business dinner, always trying to insert herself into my orbit.”Reporters gasped. Pens scratched furiously against notepads. His mother, elegant and sharp-eyed, leaned forward, her voice slicing through the crowd.“When her advances were rejected, she became hysterical. She caused scenes in public, shouting, crying, begging. She embarrassed our family in front of important partners. We tolerate

The room was dim, Nicolas’s scotch glass untouched between them. Ava sat across from him, composed, a quiet presence against the storm inside his chest.“I told myself I wouldn’t interfere,” she said, her tone soft, controlled. “But seeing you like this… Nick, it breaks me.”His gaze was sharp, wounded. “Don’t pretend this is about me. You were gone for years, Ava. Years. You don’t get to come back and act like—” He stopped, the words clogging his throat.Ava leaned forward, her eyes shimmering with the exact balance of sadness and tenderness he remembered from before. “I was gone because I thought it was the best for us. You were young. The pressure of your family… of the empire. I didn’t want to be the reason you resented your future.”Nicolas’s laugh was bitter, hollow. “And instead, you left me hollow.”For a moment, the mask slipped from her face, but she replaced it quickly, letting her hand hover over his without touching. “I thought time would change things. I thought… maybe Ar
