A week later . . . Chastity had arrived in New York last night. She had thought it best to not to tell anyone about her new assignment in Mexico until after Christmas. She didn’t want to bring everyone down during the Christmas holiday. Chiapas was in the most southern part of Mexico. This might be the last Christmas she would spend in New York for a while – and she intended to enjoy it as best she could. It was Christmas Eve. It was Friday, the last day the sisters of Saint Barbara’s Convent were volunteering at the soup kitchen until the second week of January. Julian was taking up the tablecloths in the dining hall. He was able to get Peter an interview with the director of networking at B&B as a technician. The interview was yesterday. Chastity and Jane were able to give Peter a suit and a few other items of clothing from the donation drive they had. He was due back in Boston today. A week and a half later . . . Chastity and several of the other sisters were at Saint Leonard’s Catholic Church volunteering for their soup kitchen. They would be volunteering all week. The soup kitchen was in the basement of the church. Chastity was placing festive Christmas themed tablecloths on the tables when Jane, a soon to-be-nun, walked in – with Julian behind her. “Chastity, look who came to volunteer with us today?” Jane chirped. Like the rest of them, she was wearing a nun’s veil and black jumper. “Julian,” Chastity said with surprise. “Hey. I came to lend a hand,” Julian said with a whisper of a smile. “Isn’t that sweet of him?” Jane preened. “Yes. Saint Barbara’s Convent held their annual Christmas donation drive at BCYF Perkins Community Center on Talbot Avenue in Boston. The director over the center donated the use of the building to the convent free of charge. They were set up in the gymnasium. Two tables were set up to accept baby toys. Three were set up to accept toys from the ages of four to twelve. Four tables were set up to accept clothes for children. Two were set up to accept clothes for adults. There were tables set up to accept donations for electronics like TVs, computers, etc. Chastity and another nun-in-training, Penny, were running table four, donations for adult clothes. The drive was scheduled from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Things were slow when they first opened, but by nine-thirty they began getting people. Several weeks later . . . Chastity had returned to New York for Thanksgiving. This year her mother had gone all out since every in-law branch of the New York Van Dykes were coming. Thankfully, their out-of-state extended family weren’t coming this year. They didn’t have a table big enough to seat everyone if they had. A few days after her date with Julian, Chastity headed back to Boston. Her father let her use the family jet. She had texted Julian to let him know she was returning to Boston for a little while but would be back for Thanksgiving. He had texted her back, saying he would see her then and apologized again for trying to compromise her. She walked outside of the Boston Logan International Airport. She didn’t have a suitcase since she had clothes and personal toiletries at the convent. All she had was her purse. As she walked the sidewalk she heard someone calling her name.
