Yza woke up to the sight of Adam’s face when she looked up. His arms were wrapped around her like a snake as he leaned against the headboard, fast asleep. His head was tilted to the side, and she figured he’d wake up with a stiff neck.

Still, her heart fluttered early in the morning. He had been watching over her; she was sure of it. Even with her high fever, she could feel him constantly checking her forehead and placing a thermometer under her arm. Who knows where he got the thermometer—he probably had one of his men buy it. He even made sure she took her medicine on time. And what made her heart swell even more? She felt him kiss her lips repeatedly, even while she was asleep. She knew how much she meant to him.

Yza tried to move. She felt a bit better now and needed to force herself to get up, but she still felt weak.

This was insane.

“Adam,” she nudged her husband’s stomach, but he just groaned.

He was clearly still exhausted, so she let him be.
