Azalea's POV

A soft, aching heaviness filled every part of me, as if my bones had turned to sand. My body felt strangely hollow yet unbearably full, a quiet throb moving through my hips and lower belly.

The room smelled faintly of antiseptic and warm linen. My mouth was dry and my lips felt cracked. I could taste salt… tears or sweat, I couldn’t tell.

I drew a shallow breath and forced my eyes open. For a heartbeat I floated between sleep and waking, the ceiling above me a blur of white and shadow.

Then it all came rushing back, the hours of pushing, the sound of my own screams, the urgent voices around me, and that final, piercing cry that had split the world wide open.

My baby.

The thought crashed through me like a wave. I tried to sit up, panic flaring. “My baby! Where is my baby?” I croaked, my voice weak and foreign. I struggled against the weight of the blankets, muscles trembling, when a warm hand pressed gently against my shoulder.

“She’s safe,” a low voice murmured.

Azalea's POV I laid back against the pillows and turned to watch Starr. Her tiny breaths were the sweetest music I’d ever heard.“Do you want to block his access to your child?” Lara asked suddenly, breaking the stillness. Her voice carried that older sister mix of caution and care, something I never got from Rose. I let a small smile slip. “No,” I said, turning my gaze from Starr to her. “You told me not to.”Her shoulders eased, and she reached for my hand. Her warm fingers slid over mine and she smiled. “That's good,” she whispered. “Whatever happened between you and Ace, can you set it aside for now? This little girl deserves the love of both her parents. And you deserve peace. Even if your love for him doesn’t work out, it’s going to be okay.”I swallowed, the knot in my throat softening. “I know,” I said, nodding. “I’m ready to move on, Lara. For real.” My eyes drifted back to Starr. She looked so impossibly peaceful, her tiny lips parting in a dream I’d never know. My heart

Ace's POV “Starr,” I muttered under my breath, letting the name linger like a quiet melody. It rolled through me softer than air, somehow already belonging to the tiny girl sleeping in the bassinet.“You like it?” Noah whispered beside me, his voice carrying an almost teasing warmth.“I love it,” I answered, eyes still fixed on my daughter. “She picked the perfect name for her baby girl.”The words felt right, but a heavy ache tightened behind my ribs. I forced a smile, careful not to let the heaviness show. If I stayed a moment longer, the weight pressing on my chest might break me open in front of everyone.I gave a small laugh, more of a breath than a sound, and pushed away from the bed. “Excuse me,” I murmured, not waiting for a reply. The hallway air hit me first. I followed the faint scent of disinfectant until the automatic doors slid open, spilling me into the hospital’s small relaxation park. Fresh evening air wrapped around me, cool against my skin, carrying a mixture of da

ACE’S POVI rushed into the hospital with my heart pounding so violently it felt like it would tear right out of my chest. The fluorescent lights above buzzed faintly, the smell of antiseptic burning my nose. My legs moved faster than my mind could process.“Ace!”I stopped short at Lara’s voice. She was standing in the lobby, her face was pale and her eyes were red and swollen like she’d been crying for hours. One look at her and my stomach twisted into a knot.My throat tightened as words forced their way out. “Is… is Azalea okay?” My voice cracked, strange and foreign, like it belonged to someone else entirely.“She’s still in the labor room,” Lara whispered, her hands wringing nervously in front of her.The air rushed out of me in a broken sigh. Still in the labor room. Still fighting. I swallowed hard. “Do… do you think she’ll need me inside?” I asked. My voice trembled so much it made me wince. I didn’t even sound like a man anymore, I sounded like a boy begging for permission

Ace's POV“Now it’s time to disclose your background. You really did well with the engagement announcement.”My father’s voice dripped through the phone, calm but heavy with satisfaction. Each word struck a nerve in me. I could almost see the smug look on his face, the one he wore whenever his plan went perfectly. The line went dead a second after. He didn’t even wait for me to respond. Typical. He’d said what he wanted, and to him, that was enough.I threw the phone onto the couch and dragged both hands down my face, anger burning hot in my veins. My chest rose and fell, heavy with frustration. The news was everywhere. My name glued to Escola’s. Her smile was wide in every picture, her arms wrapped around me like we were some kind of fairytale couple.Even though I tried everything, calls, bribes, desperate offers to shut it down, it had already gone too far. Escola’s media presence was too strong. Too damn powerful. She lived for the spotlight, and right now she had me locked in the

Azalea’S POV“Are you ready, Laraaaa?” I called out in a sing–song voice as I leaned closer to the mirror, applying the final layer of my lipstick. I’d been buzzing all morning. We were heading to the hospital to check the baby’s gender. After series of arguments on the day I should check it, and finally, the moment was here. We even made it into a bet. I said boy. Lara said girl. Whoever losed had to give the winner anything they wanted. I already knew what I’d ask for if I won, though I kept it to myself.“Lara?” I called again, louder this time, spinning slightly away from the mirror. She was sitting on the bed, hunched over, her eyes glued to her phone like it held the answers to life itself.“Lara!” I snapped, trying to get her attention since she seemed to be engrossed in whatever she was looking at.“What?” she blurted out, almost defensive, then softened quickly. “I’m sorry,” she added, her tone dipping into guilt. “I was just carried away by something.”I narrowed my eyes,
