‘Act like Rose. Be like Rose…be Rose.' were the only words that rang in my head as I watched Lara go into the club, gesturing for me to walk forward and join her. With a deep nervous breath, I walked in after showing the bouncer my ID. I was immediately drowned by music and the stench of sweat and alcohol as I walked in. The club was louder than I thought it would be. Even louder than the ones showed in the movies. I adjusted my short summer dress and used a hand to pat my hair that was packed in a messy bun above my head. I felt extremely awkward and out of place, mainly because this was my first time in a club, and because it felt as if all eyes were on me. I was not a confident person at all, that’s one of the reasons I was here, because I wanted to play pretend, I wanted to fool myself into thinking I could be the same as everyone, especially Rose, my sister. “Here, have this," Lara, my best friend said, handing me a small glass cup filled with a content I couldn't recognize. I took it from her hand, turning the drink around to know what it contained but ended up clueless. Shrugging, I gulped the liquid content down, immediately gagging as the toxic thing touched my tongue. The smell of the drink went straight to my nostrils, irritating me and making me scrunch my nose up. I wasn't sure which was worse, the smell or the taste. “What was that?" I asked with a glare, raising my voice up so that she'd hear me above the loud sound of meaningless beats people were dancing too. “Ouzo, baby," she laughed, showing me her tongue in a mocking way. My hands immediately moved to my nose, even more disgusted than I was before. “It is disgusting." I gagged. Lara sighed, straightening my sloshed stance up. “Loosen up, babe. Have you forgotten you came here to have fun? You already ruined your chances of meeting a hunk by dressing like a nun. Don't ruin your chance of having a great night. Remember the plan is to have as much fun as you should without your parents and your evil sister choking you. Don't ruin it, Lea." I nodded my head in agreement, determined to not allow anything to stop me from having fun like I should. Tonight is the night I would be forcing myself out of my shell. “Get me another drink, Lara." Lara squealed, practically bouncing out of my presence to get me another dose of toxic alcohol poison. I felt arms wrap around me and I immediately jerk them off, turning around to glare at whoever the person was. “Hey, baby. I can tell you're new here. Haven't been to a club before, sexy? I just stared at him, unsure of what to say. "How about I help you get comfortable? You need to loosen up, damsel. You're chasing all the nice vibe away with your grumpiness." The blonde head man smiled, taking my hands and forcing me to dance in line with the beat playing. I snatched my hands away from his hold, getting irritated. “No, thank you. I'm perfectly fine. My friend is here, she'll make sure I have fun." “Feisty, ain't we? I hope you will be aggressive in bed too. Maybe you can ask your friend to join us, so we can make it a threesome." The lunatic chuckled, taking a hold of my waist tightly. Ew! “Let me go, you pervert!" I hissed through gritted teeth, trying to pray him off me. My struggles were useless as his grip on my waist tightened in an iron grip. He began leading me out of the club while I struggled against his arm, my voice being drowned away by the music. Everybody in the club was either too intoxicated to hear my plight or just too into their good time to pay attention to an awkwardly dressed girl being kidnapped by a stranger with weird vibes. Oh, God! This couldn't be happening the first time I decided to have fun. “Azalea," Lara's voice yelled directly next to me, great panic in her eyes. Her angry gaze shifted from mine to the man's, sending him daggers with her eyes. “Let go of my friend or you wouldn't like what I'd do to you, creep." She threatened. Her eyes displayed murder but her height gave her away. Lara was on the short side, and she was extremely pretty which meant that no matter how hard she tried, she could never look as intimidating or angry as others would. The man chuckled, blatantly ignoring Lara and continuing to drag me off, going through the back side of the club, the sound of the music reducing the further we walked. “You can join us if you want, princess. You can't let your friend have all the fun." “The young lady asked you to stop. Didn't you hear her or you'd like the cops to explain what that statement meant?" The voice of a man came to my rescue, halting the steps of the potential rapist. “Who the hell are you?" My kidnapper asked, his grip on me tightened so much that his nails dug into my skin. “Someone who would make your life completely miserable if you don't let go of the young lady this instant." My saviour replied. You know what they say about knight in shining armor and how they always come right on time. Yeah, mine was right here at the perfect time. The man holding me released me, raising his hands up in surrender and sneering at me. “Whatever. She isn't that hot anyway. She probably wouldn't be a good fuck." He walked away, hitting Lara and making her send curses his way. I turned around, ready to thank the man that saved me from almost getting raped when my breath gets knocked out of me, he was breathtaking and gorgeous, I didn't even had the right words to describe how handsome he was. My words instantly got stuck in my throat and I simply gaped at him like a fish out of water. “Are you okay, miss?" His husky voice resounded in my ear like a sermon. Lara nudged me, nodding to the man who was standing, waiting for my reply. I'm still staring at him starstruck when I answered “Yes…yes…I am. Thank you so much." “I hope he didn't touch you in any way? I can help deal with him." I nodded my head, my voice betraying me. “I'm glad you're fine. Let me buy you a drink." I wanted to jump at the opportunity but then I remembered that I wasn't alone. “I would really love to but I can't. I'm here with my friend and I don't want her to be alo…" “I'm not alone." Lara yelled, cutting me off. “I am with some friends from work. You both should go ahead and have fun." She finished with a mischievous smirk. As I walked back to the bar with the handsome stranger, I looked over my shoulder, and Lara sent me a thumbs up, mouthing at me to make sure I have a good time with the stranger.ACE’S POVI rushed into the hospital with my heart pounding so violently it felt like it would tear right out of my chest. The fluorescent lights above buzzed faintly, the smell of antiseptic burning my nose. My legs moved faster than my mind could process.“Ace!”I stopped short at Lara’s voice. She was standing in the lobby, her face was pale and her eyes were red and swollen like she’d been crying for hours. One look at her and my stomach twisted into a knot.My throat tightened as words forced their way out. “Is… is Azalea okay?” My voice cracked, strange and foreign, like it belonged to someone else entirely.“She’s still in the labor room,” Lara whispered, her hands wringing nervously in front of her.The air rushed out of me in a broken sigh. Still in the labor room. Still fighting. I swallowed hard. “Do… do you think she’ll need me inside?” I asked. My voice trembled so much it made me wince. I didn’t even sound like a man anymore, I sounded like a boy begging for permission
Ace's POV“Now it’s time to disclose your background. You really did well with the engagement announcement.”My father’s voice dripped through the phone, calm but heavy with satisfaction. Each word struck a nerve in me. I could almost see the smug look on his face, the one he wore whenever his plan went perfectly. The line went dead a second after. He didn’t even wait for me to respond. Typical. He’d said what he wanted, and to him, that was enough.I threw the phone onto the couch and dragged both hands down my face, anger burning hot in my veins. My chest rose and fell, heavy with frustration. The news was everywhere. My name glued to Escola’s. Her smile was wide in every picture, her arms wrapped around me like we were some kind of fairytale couple.Even though I tried everything, calls, bribes, desperate offers to shut it down, it had already gone too far. Escola’s media presence was too strong. Too damn powerful. She lived for the spotlight, and right now she had me locked in the
Azalea’S POV“Are you ready, Laraaaa?” I called out in a sing–song voice as I leaned closer to the mirror, applying the final layer of my lipstick. I’d been buzzing all morning. We were heading to the hospital to check the baby’s gender. After series of arguments on the day I should check it, and finally, the moment was here. We even made it into a bet. I said boy. Lara said girl. Whoever losed had to give the winner anything they wanted. I already knew what I’d ask for if I won, though I kept it to myself.“Lara?” I called again, louder this time, spinning slightly away from the mirror. She was sitting on the bed, hunched over, her eyes glued to her phone like it held the answers to life itself.“Lara!” I snapped, trying to get her attention since she seemed to be engrossed in whatever she was looking at.“What?” she blurted out, almost defensive, then softened quickly. “I’m sorry,” she added, her tone dipping into guilt. “I was just carried away by something.”I narrowed my eyes,
Ace's POVMy head felt like it was splitting open the second I tried to peel my eyes apart. A sharp ache drilled through my skull that made me groan.“Urghhhh…” I muttered under my breath. “I hate hangovers.”Slowly, I forced my eyes open, blinking against my blurry vision. Everything around me felt strange, like I wasn’t in my own skin. My tongue was dry, my body felt heavy, my mind was foggy. And then, yesterday came rushing back in pieces.Wait... What happened after I saw Escola at the bar? The memory of someone dragging me towards a car came to me, and then I recalled some other things that happened but they were a bit blurry in my head.I sat up quickly, ignoring the pain in my head. My head pounded as I scanned the room with nervous eyes. For a breathless second, I thought I’d woken up somewhere else, but then I caught sight of the familiar walls, the black curtains, and the large painting above the table. Relief flooded through me.I was in my room.I let out a shaky sigh. “Th
Azalea's POV “So what are you thinking of doing now?” Lara asked softly as her hands worked gently against my tense shoulders. We were seated in my living room, but it didn’t feel like home anymore. I had left the office the moment she arrived, unable to hold myself together any longer. I ended up spilling everything to her every detail, every fear, every ounce of confusion pressing on my chest. Nothing was left unsaid.“I don’t know,” I admitted finally, my voice hollow as my eyes stayed fixed on the television screen. Some movie was playing but the noise was nothing but background static to me. I wasn’t watching. How could I when my mind was elsewhere.Lara’s arms circled me from behind, giving me a warm back hug. Her presence should have been enough to calm me, yet I still felt my stomach twisting.“Don’t take his child away from him,” she whispered carefully, as though afraid I would snap at her words.I closed my eyes, letting the weight of her advice sink in. “I know I shouldn
Ace's POV I knew it. I knew she was going to hate me if she found out I did the DNA test. The look in her eyes when she told me to leave it wasn’t just anger, it was betrayal, disappointment, disgust, all wrapped into one. And I caused it. I did that to her. I hurt her again. My chest felt heavy, like a thousand stones pressing down against it as I walked out of the building. Each step away from her office felt like punishment. The stares of a few people in the lobby didn’t matter, I couldn’t even look at them. My mind was too clouded, my heart sinking lower with every breath I took.I left my car there and flagged down a taxi, my hand shaking slightly as I pulled the door open. The driver asked where I was going, and before I could think, the words slipped out. “Take me to Seventh Street bar.”That was the bar Azalea and I first met. It was stupid to go back there, I knew, but my body moved on instinct. The moment the cab stopped, I paid the fare and stepped out, my feet carrying
