‘Act like Rose. Be like Rose…be Rose.' were the only words that rang in my head as I watched Lara go into the club, gesturing for me to walk forward and join her. With a deep nervous breath, I walked in after showing the bouncer my ID. I was immediately drowned by music and the stench of sweat and alcohol as I walked in. The club was louder than I thought it would be. Even louder than the ones showed in the movies. I adjusted my short summer dress and used a hand to pat my hair that was packed in a messy bun above my head. I felt extremely awkward and out of place, mainly because this was my first time in a club, and because it felt as if all eyes were on me. I was not a confident person at all, that’s one of the reasons I was here, because I wanted to play pretend, I wanted to fool myself into thinking I could be the same as everyone, especially Rose, my sister. “Here, have this," Lara, my best friend said, handing me a small glass cup filled with a content I couldn't recognize. I took it from her hand, turning the drink around to know what it contained but ended up clueless. Shrugging, I gulped the liquid content down, immediately gagging as the toxic thing touched my tongue. The smell of the drink went straight to my nostrils, irritating me and making me scrunch my nose up. I wasn't sure which was worse, the smell or the taste. “What was that?" I asked with a glare, raising my voice up so that she'd hear me above the loud sound of meaningless beats people were dancing too. “Ouzo, baby," she laughed, showing me her tongue in a mocking way. My hands immediately moved to my nose, even more disgusted than I was before. “It is disgusting." I gagged. Lara sighed, straightening my sloshed stance up. “Loosen up, babe. Have you forgotten you came here to have fun? You already ruined your chances of meeting a hunk by dressing like a nun. Don't ruin your chance of having a great night. Remember the plan is to have as much fun as you should without your parents and your evil sister choking you. Don't ruin it, Lea." I nodded my head in agreement, determined to not allow anything to stop me from having fun like I should. Tonight is the night I would be forcing myself out of my shell. “Get me another drink, Lara." Lara squealed, practically bouncing out of my presence to get me another dose of toxic alcohol poison. I felt arms wrap around me and I immediately jerk them off, turning around to glare at whoever the person was. “Hey, baby. I can tell you're new here. Haven't been to a club before, sexy? I just stared at him, unsure of what to say. "How about I help you get comfortable? You need to loosen up, damsel. You're chasing all the nice vibe away with your grumpiness." The blonde head man smiled, taking my hands and forcing me to dance in line with the beat playing. I snatched my hands away from his hold, getting irritated. “No, thank you. I'm perfectly fine. My friend is here, she'll make sure I have fun." “Feisty, ain't we? I hope you will be aggressive in bed too. Maybe you can ask your friend to join us, so we can make it a threesome." The lunatic chuckled, taking a hold of my waist tightly. Ew! “Let me go, you pervert!" I hissed through gritted teeth, trying to pray him off me. My struggles were useless as his grip on my waist tightened in an iron grip. He began leading me out of the club while I struggled against his arm, my voice being drowned away by the music. Everybody in the club was either too intoxicated to hear my plight or just too into their good time to pay attention to an awkwardly dressed girl being kidnapped by a stranger with weird vibes. Oh, God! This couldn't be happening the first time I decided to have fun. “Azalea," Lara's voice yelled directly next to me, great panic in her eyes. Her angry gaze shifted from mine to the man's, sending him daggers with her eyes. “Let go of my friend or you wouldn't like what I'd do to you, creep." She threatened. Her eyes displayed murder but her height gave her away. Lara was on the short side, and she was extremely pretty which meant that no matter how hard she tried, she could never look as intimidating or angry as others would. The man chuckled, blatantly ignoring Lara and continuing to drag me off, going through the back side of the club, the sound of the music reducing the further we walked. “You can join us if you want, princess. You can't let your friend have all the fun." “The young lady asked you to stop. Didn't you hear her or you'd like the cops to explain what that statement meant?" The voice of a man came to my rescue, halting the steps of the potential rapist. “Who the hell are you?" My kidnapper asked, his grip on me tightened so much that his nails dug into my skin. “Someone who would make your life completely miserable if you don't let go of the young lady this instant." My saviour replied. You know what they say about knight in shining armor and how they always come right on time. Yeah, mine was right here at the perfect time. The man holding me released me, raising his hands up in surrender and sneering at me. “Whatever. She isn't that hot anyway. She probably wouldn't be a good fuck." He walked away, hitting Lara and making her send curses his way. I turned around, ready to thank the man that saved me from almost getting raped when my breath gets knocked out of me, he was breathtaking and gorgeous, I didn't even had the right words to describe how handsome he was. My words instantly got stuck in my throat and I simply gaped at him like a fish out of water. “Are you okay, miss?" His husky voice resounded in my ear like a sermon. Lara nudged me, nodding to the man who was standing, waiting for my reply. I'm still staring at him starstruck when I answered “Yes…yes…I am. Thank you so much." “I hope he didn't touch you in any way? I can help deal with him." I nodded my head, my voice betraying me. “I'm glad you're fine. Let me buy you a drink." I wanted to jump at the opportunity but then I remembered that I wasn't alone. “I would really love to but I can't. I'm here with my friend and I don't want her to be alo…" “I'm not alone." Lara yelled, cutting me off. “I am with some friends from work. You both should go ahead and have fun." She finished with a mischievous smirk. As I walked back to the bar with the handsome stranger, I looked over my shoulder, and Lara sent me a thumbs up, mouthing at me to make sure I have a good time with the stranger.Escola's POVWatching him rush after Azalea, something twisted in my chest. I almost couldn’t believe it. Seeing Ace Black, yes, Ace Black, the man my father wanted me to marry in support of his campaign, dashing after her like that made my heart flutter in a way I didn't expect. Why was I jealous? What the hell was wrong with me?In my mind, I had pictured someone else entirely. A rich, cold-blooded heir, puffed-up, full of himself, a caricature of arrogance. But it turned out to be Ace, and he looked utterly different in person tonight. His shirt was slightly rumpled, sleeves rolled up, and his face was etched with concern and panic that went beyond play-acting when he saw Azalea. I realized then I was drawn to something real. His worry, his immediate reaction… it touched something inside me.Even earlier at the bar when his text, “You’re late,” flashed on my phone, I’d felt irritated. I thought, 'Who does he think he is?' I sat in the car and was deliberately a few minutes late
Ace's POV The chair I was sitting on fell backward with a loud, awkward clatter. My heart slammed hard against my ribcage, and from the look on Escola’s face, I wasn’t the only one shocked.“What happened?” Escola asked, turning around to follow my frozen stare.I barely heard her. My eyes were locked on Azalea, the one woman I had desperately hoped wouldn’t be here tonight, not like this, not seeing what she just saw.Her friend was jogging towards her, worry plastered all over her face.I didn't even think twice. My body moved on its own as I followed them, weaving past people, ignoring the lingering stares and whispered conversations.I wanted to explain. I needed to.I had only just arrived at that table. Escola was joking, hell, I was about to shut her down myself. I wasn’t here to get married, wasn’t here to follow my father’s ridiculous plan. And despite everything, despite how much of a wreck I was, I found myself getting attached to Azalea more than I ever thought possible.
Azalea's POV“Oh my goodness, look at the stars,” Lara exclaimed as we sat by the pool, completely exhausted from today’s activities.Even though I was pregnant, I didn’t let that stop me from having fun. I swam and even went to the game yard. It had been such a long time since I played soccer, and of course, we started the day with spa treatments. That was the very first thing we went for. My body still felt soft from the massage, but my legs were screaming from all the soccer.“I’m so exhausted,” I groaned, not taking my eyes off the stars Lara was pointing at.“Of course, you should be,” she laughed, shaking her head at me. “You’re carrying a whole human inside you and you did all that? I’m so proud of you,” she grinned, her smile stretching wide across her face.I returned her smile, feeling that familiar warmth in my chest. She stood up carefully and stretched out her hands to me. “Let’s go back to the room,” she said.“And maybe grab some drinks,” I winked, teasing her.“Nope,”
Ace's POV I sat in my car in the parking lot, my hands gripping the steering wheel so tight my knuckles had turned white.“Please, do this for your dad.” My mom’s voice echoed in my head. She sounded soft and tired from the phone call earlier.I let my head fall back against the seat, staring at the roof of the car, like it could somehow give me answers. I didn’t want to do this. I didn’t want to be here. I didn’t want to hand over my company like some peace offering to the man who never saw me as enough. The same man who spent years building his empire while tearing down every ounce of self-worth I ever had.And yet… my mom. After all the years. After all the bruises, seen and unseen, she still begged on his behalf.I squeezed my eyes shut, my jaw clenching so hard my teeth started to ache. The steering wheel creaked under my grip, and before I could stop myself, my fist slammed into it.The sharp sting in my knuckles barely scratched the surface of the storm brewing inside me.I sh
Azalea's POVIt was a brilliant sunny morning, one of those rare days when the sky looked immense and my heart hinted at hope. Lara and I had turned my room upside down, rifling through every dress, every touch of fabric in search of something perfect. I’d just told her about Ace showing up at my door, unannounced, helped assemble the baby playset, and left flowers. She dropped a sunflower yellow dress onto the bed, her eyes wide."Oh my goodness, he did all that?" Her voice was full of both awe and skepticism."Yes," I confirmed, lifting a pastel pink dress, just brilliant enough for a resort opening without being too showy. I turned toward her, trying to decide.“He came here to me, like that,” I said softly.Lara walked over and gathered me in a hug. “He’s the father of your baby,” she replied, half laughing, half reassuring. “And he showed up and built a play set for it. That’s more than most men do.”I bit my lip, nervous but strangely comforted. “I still feel so confused.”“Of
Ace's POVIt didn’t go how I pictured it.Honestly, I thought I’d be standing on the porch right now, humiliated, maybe with flowers thrown in my face and the door slammed shut.I’d prepared for that.I told myself I’d deserve it.But here I was, sitting in her living room, organizing the baby playhouse, like some suburban dad who actually had his life together. The playset clicked into place as I tightened the last piece. It wasn’t rocket science, but for some reason, my heart swelled with this weird, unfamiliar pride when I looked at it all done.Azalea hovered nearby, her arms crossed, watching me. She offered to grab me something to drink, but I waved her off.“I’ll get it,” I told her. “Relax.”Without thinking twice, I made my way to the kitchen like I’d been there before, like I belonged here, even though part of me knew I didn’t.The kitchen was small, but cozy, just like the rest of her place. Warm, welcoming. It screamed home.I could hear her footsteps behind me as she foll
