Damon's POV I sighed, hating that I had to deal with Sasha. I felt like I was about to deal with a rabid dog and my heart slammed against my ribcage, the force almost sending me crumpling to the ground.“Answer her, Damon.” Nora kept hissing and gesturing to me to leave her room but I didn't want to. I sighed, eventually agreeing that I had to leave. I wasn't a coward and I wasn't about to start being one.I opened the door, scowling hard to let her know my displeasure with her without much words. She snorted at the sight of me and didn't look bothered by the sour expression on my face. She had her arms bent on her waist and fixed me a cold glare, seemingly ready for war.“What are you doing here?” she asked, her tone loud and harsh.I didn't even wince. “To check on a sick resident of the house.” I shouldn't have to spell that out for her.“Is that why you spent fifteen minutes in there with her?” She asked, letting out a long hiss that could make a snake impressed. Was she keeping
Nora's POV "Are you fine?" Damon breathed as he barged into my bedroom, his eyes fixed on me with concern.I gasped at his sudden presence, smiling as he frowned when I checked my phone instead of replying immediately. What was he doing being here?"Are you not meant to be back in the next two days?" I asked, after confirming that I had the right date in my head and didn't make a mistake. His frown etched deeper on his face, his jaws pulling together in annoyance. "I asked you a question, Nora." He pointed out. "And I also did." I replied, smiling as he exhaled in exasperation.I enjoyed teasing him at times. Though I knew he wasn't going to tease me back or enjoy the teases, I couldn't stop myself from teasing him anytime I had the chance. He let out a long exhale. "I've heard that pregnant women can be annoying at times. I refuse to get pissed. I can also see that you are fine with how active your tongue is." He had a hint of a smile playing on his lips, even though it was obvio
Nora's POV Few Years Ago"Come on, Nora. Nancy. Nash." Mum shouted as she walked out of the house.I giggled, rushing out to meet her and dragging a reluctant three-year-old Nash out with me. "Let's go, boy." I said, impatience gripping my vocal cords."I don't want to go." He cried, struggling to break free.I rolled my eyes, tired of forcing him to leave the house anytime we had somewhere to be. I thought all kids his age would be willing to jump and roll around in nature. Why would he be different?I sighed, wondering how I got the gift of an annoying brother, even as I looked at him with a pleasant smile on my face. As much as I was annoyed with him, I couldn't be mad at him. He was too cute for that."Let's go." I implored him again. "We will have fun. Picnics are always fun.""Cartoons are better." He argued.I sighed, exasperation clouding how adorable I thought he was. Realizing I wasn't going to get anywhere by arguing with him and trying to convince him, I picked him up and
Nora's POV "Please try to eat more."I shook my head, pushing away with feeble hands the bowl of steaming chicken soup Jane was trying to pour down my throat. I had had enough of being fed everything edible that Jane could find in the house. I was certain that I needed rest at that point to recover and not food; rest that I wasn't likely to get anytime soon with the way Jane was hovering around me."No," I sighed, hating that I had to verbally announce my refusal. If only she wasn't such a stubborn nurse, I wouldn't have to stress my tired vocal cords."Just one more bite." She implored.Rather than say anything else again, I turned my face away, shifting on the bed to face the other side and hoping that she would give up on me.She chuckled and I heaved out a sigh of relief when I heard her drop the bowl on the dresser by my bed. Oh! Freedom at last. I wanted to sing out loud my ecstasy for everyone to hear."Don't be cute, Madam Nora."I snorted. "I'm sick, Jane. There is nothing c
Damon's POV I could finally see a silver lining in the dark clouds I had been dealing with all along but there was a problem.Nora.I sighed as I fixed my tie in place, checking once again that I had all the documents I needed with me. Of course, I had everything with me. I knew without a doubt that I did. I had painstakingly arranged everything into my briefcase the moment the meeting was confirmed and my appointment was booked. I had also checked the documents once every thirty minutes within the last six hours. I ignored the burn in my eyes, reminding me that I had barely slept a wink.My phone alarm beeped and I nodded as I turned it off, aware that I had less than two hours to leave the house if I didn't want to miss my flight.I wasn't one to hesitate whenever I had a business trip. Normally, I wouldn't be home at this time but in a way that was unlike me, there was a force that kept me at home and unable to dash out as I usually did.I had been praying and working to get more
Nora's POV "Welcome, my darlings." Cara beamed as we made our way into their living room. She embraced first her son and Sasha, saving me for the last. I didn't mind just as I didn't mind that Sasha had pushed herself into the passenger seat beside Damon on the way and left me no choice but to sit at the back. I had been helpless and forced to watch as she shamelessly talked animatedly to Damon, touched and flirted with him as he drove. The only consolation had been that Damon had ignored her, doing a perfect act of pretending that she didn't exist. I had struggled not to bark out in laughter as I watched her pathetic attempts to rub in my face that Damon was her husband."Come on in," Cara asked after giving me the briefest hug in history. I didn't mind that too, knowing that she had done that for Sasha's sake."Where is dad?" Damon asked."He is out golfing with his friends but will soon join us." Cara replied. "Why don't you join them? I'm sure he will be proud to have you around
