Adriana's POV

I came here to bury Enzo. Instead I'm disappearing between two brothers.

The thought hit me as I walked back into the rehearsal dinner. The noise felt too loud after what Victoria said on the terrace. Laughter. Champagne glasses clinking. Someone playing piano in another room. All of it pressed against my skull like a headache I couldn't shake.

I needed Sage. She was nowhere.

I tried to find a corner. Somewhere quiet. Somewhere I could breathe.

Of all the people I was expecting to

Zayn's POVI broke every traffic law to get home. When she entered and I noticed how puffed her eyes were, I was scared. When she told me she was pregnant and handed the result to me, I skipped through the medical jargon until I saw: Positive pregnancy test. Estimated gestational age: 6 weeks. My first instinct was to grin like an idiot. A baby. Our baby. But when I looked up, her face stopped me cold. She wasn't smiling. She looked wrecked."Say something," she whispered.I sat down next to her but didn't touch her yet, wasn't sure if she wanted that. "How are you feeling?""How do you think I'm feeling?" It came out sharp. "I just got my life back, Zayn. I finally had a plan that was mine and now my body decided to blow it up.""Okay.""That's it? Just okay?""What do you want me to say?" I asked carefully."I don't know! Maybe that you're upset too? That this ruins everything? Something other than just sitting there being calm.""I'm not calm, I'm trying not to make this worse by s

Adriana's POVThree weeks before the wedding, I woke up nauseous. Not the gentle kind of queasy that comes from bad takeout. This was different, rolling through my stomach in waves making me break out in cold sweat.Zayn was already in the shower. I lay there breathing carefully through my nose, willing it to pass.Wedding nerves. Oh yes! It'd be wedding nerves.By the time I got out of bed, the nausea had settled into a dull ache in my lower abdomen. I brushed my teeth and the mint toothpaste made my stomach lurch again."You okay?" Zayn appeared in the doorway, towel around his waist, hair dripping with water."I’m fine. Just didn't sleep well." I forced a smile and pushed past him to the shower. The hot water helped. I stood under the spray longer than necessary, trying to convince myself I felt normal. At Sage's office, I made it through the morning by sheer willpower.Around eleven I went to the bathroom and sat in the stall staring at my phone calendar. My period was three days

Zayn's POVFour weeks until the wedding.I woke up to find Adriana at the living room window in my t-shirt, bare feet on the cold floor, coffee mug steaming in her hands. Her hair was still wild from sleep and she hadn't bothered with a robe even though the apartment was chilly.I grabbed the blanket from the couch and wrapped it around her shoulders from behind, then pulled her back against my chest. She jumped slightly. "God, your hands are freezing.""Sorry." I slid them under the blanket anyway, around her waist."Liar. You're not sorry at all." But she leaned into me, her weight settling against mine because she belonged there. We stood watching the city wake up. A delivery truck rumbled past below. Someone across the street was doing yoga on their balcony. Normal Thursday morning things."You're thinking loud," she said after a while."How do you know I'm thinking?""You do this thing." She reached back and touched my jaw. "Your jaw gets tight when you're in your head."I relaxe

Adriana's POVI woke up the morning after accepting Apex to the smell of coffee and something sweet baking. Zayn's side of the bed was already empty, and the sheets were cool to touch. When I walked into the kitchen, I found him at the stove flipping pancakes while humming something I didn't recognize. It was the first time I'd heard him hum since Marcus died.He looked up when I entered and smiled. "Morning babe. Sit down, breakfast is almost ready."The kitchen table was set with plates and mugs, and in the center was a small bouquet of bodega flowers. Not fancy, just cheerful yellow daisies in a water glass."What's all this?" I sat down, still half asleep."Congratulations on your dream job." He set a plate in front of me, pancakes perfectly golden, fresh strawberries on the side. "I wanted us to celebrate properly."We ate together while morning light streamed through the windows. He asked about the team I will be working with at Apex, what frameworks I wanted to build first, how

Zayn's POVThe day after Adriana came back from San Francisco with the offer, I woke up early and started making calls.Real estate agents in the Bay Area, office space brokers and COO recruitment firms specializing in West Coast operations. I wasn't just researching anymore, it’s real.Connor stopped by around noon and found me at the dining table surrounded by spreadsheets, laptop open to apartment listings, phone on speaker with a commercial real estate broker.I ended the call and looked up. "What?""You're really doing this." He sat down across from me. "Moving to San Francisco.""I promised her California. I'm keeping that promise."Connor picked up one of the spreadsheets. "This is a lot to pull off in a few months.""I know." I rubbed my eyes, tired from hours of research. "But she starts June second. I need to be there as fast as possible after that.""What does Enzo think?""He's coming by this afternoon so we can discuss splitting responsibilities."Connor was quiet for a

Adriana's POVI flew to San Francisco after the first video interview I'd had on Tuesday morning was a success. Zayn drove me to JFK, kissed me goodbye at the gate, and said, "Go get your dream job."The flight felt both endless and too short. I rehearsed answers to potential questions, reviewed my notes on Apex's recent projects, and tried to calm my nerves. This was real. Apex Intelligence occupied three floors of a sleek building overlooking San Francisco Bay. Floor-to-ceiling windows, open workspace design, a place that screams innovation and impact. The Head of AI Safety, Dr. Rebecca Martinez, met me in the lobby. She was younger than I expected, maybe late thirties, with a sharp focus that came from years of high-stakes technical work."Adriana, thank you for flying out." She shook my hand firmly. "We're excited to talk with you."The day was a blur of interviews. I met with the engineering team, the policy division, and the executive leadership. Everyone asked variations of th
