ELARA’S POV

“I’m the last person you’d want to listen to, and I know I don’t even deserve for you to listen to me,” Nate said, his voice calm and gentle, almost sincere. “But, Mrs. Westwood, I’m asking you to please hear us out.”

I noticed the faintest shift in my mom’s demeanor, a slight softening in her posture.

Her arms were still crossed tightly, but she no longer looked like she was ready to rip someone’s head off

at least not entirely.

“I was—”

Before she could finish her sentence, the ring of her phone interrupted her.

With an annoyed huff, she fished it out of her pocket and glanced at the screen. “I need to take this,” she muttered, stepping a few feet away to answer the call, though her glare warned us she wasn’t done.

As soon as she was out of earshot, I turned to Nate, my voice a harsh whisper. “What the hell are you trying to do right now?”

“Clear up the mess we’re in,” he whispered back, his gaze steady as it met mine.

“And you plan on clearing it up

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    201: JUST THIS ONCE!

ELARA’S POV I tore away from the kiss, shoving him with every ounce of strength I had left. My heart was pounding, my lips still burning from the heat of him, from the frenzy he brought with just one touch. “What the hell is wrong with you?” I gasped, breathless, angry… no, shaken. “That guy drugged your drink, El,” he yelled, voice breaking like glass. “He slipped something into it when you weren’t looking.” My knees buckled. Just like that, the floor vanished from beneath me. “No,” I whispered. “He didn’t seem like someone who could… do that.” My voice sounded so small. Pathetic. Like I was trying to convince myself more than him. “That’s the damn thing, Elara,” he snapped, pacing in front of me, raking both hands through his hair like he was trying to claw the thoughts out of his own head. “These traffickers, these predators they don’t have a warning sign on their forehead. They don’t come with a flashing neon label that says ‘monster.’ They wear a smile. They make sm

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    200: YOU DON’T GET TO CAGE ME

ELARA’S POV The car ride was dead silent. Not the kind of silence that was peaceful. Not even angry. It was suffocating. Drenched in something I couldn’t name like Nate was unraveling beside me but refusing to let it show. His hands were clenched around his phone so tightly that his knuckles had turned white. His jaw was locked, eyes dark and unreadable. Not even once did he glance my way. I almost asked what happened. I almost asked if he was okay. But I bit my tongue. Because something told me… I wouldn’t like the answer. When we pulled into the driveway and Dave killed the engine, Nate stepped out and slammed the door without a word. I opened mine before he could come around. His shoulders were heaving. He was spiraling. Whatever happened back in that room after I left… must’ve been bad. “Nate…” I called as we walked into the house, unable to hold back anymore. He turned to face me. “What’s going on?” He stared at me for a beat, jaw tight, eyes filled

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    199: BONUS TIP

NATE’S POV The door slammed shut with Elara screaming at Dave. I knew she’d be pissed — but I couldn’t let her stay in this room any longer. Not with men like this. Not when she’s been attacked twice. Another swing came for me. I dodged. It was the same green-eyed bastard who started this mess — the one who thought he could speak to her like that. The one Elara humiliated before I could even react. When he lunged at her, he signed his damn sentence. I caught his arm mid-air and twisted it behind his back. My ears were burning red hot. Rage had already taken me. “You thought you could touch my woman and walk out of here breathing?” I growled, my fist colliding with his jaw. He stumbled, but I didn’t stop. Another punch. Then another. I felt something crack. Even as a gunshot rang out in the distance, I didn’t flinch. My vision was already dark. “Enough, man!” Angelo barked, trying to drag me off. I slammed my fist into the guy again. “Your buddies forget to teach you man

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    198: NO AGENDA

ELARA’S POV As much as I hated how Nate had his secretary yank me out of the room, I couldn’t stop wondering if he was okay. I knew he did it for my safety. But how he did it… that was what stung. The moment I stepped back onto the main floor of the club, the bass slammed into my chest. Lights flickered. Bodies swayed. Laughter buzzed beneath the pounding music. It was surreal… like walking out of a battlefield and straight into someone’s birthday party. I found a stool tucked into the far corner of the bar and sat down, trying to fold myself away from the chaos. The bartender ignored me until I tapped twice! hard against the counter. Only then did he wander over. I didn’t even want a drink. I couldn’t handle one right now. But I still ordered something just to give my hands something to do. Minutes passed. My leg bounced under the counter. My fingers twisted in my lap. Every few seconds, my eyes flicked toward the hallway, waiting, hoping… to see Nate come stumbling

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    197: YOU’VE DONE ENOUGH

ELARA’S POV A woman lunges at me one of the half-naked ones, eyes wild, probably high. I duck, barely missing her nails. She comes again. I elbow her off, and fuck! the satisfaction that rushes through me is almost disturbing. Another one tries to grab my hair, but Nate’s already there, yanking her back by the wrist. My heart is pounding like it’s going to explode out of my chest. My eyes fall on a pair of green ones discreetly trying to slip into another room and an idea lights up in my head. With slightly shaky hands, I grab the nearest object to use as a weapon. The whole room looks like a mess Angelo, Nate, and Dave are all tackling people. And it’s all green eyes’ fault! I don’t know what he’s trying to do, but I have the urge to knock some sense into him. If only he took what I said like a man the way I had to but no! Men like him with mommy issues never listen. They can’t function without being babied. As much as I want to feel bad for being a catalyst to th

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    196: NO DRAMA,

ELARA’S POV“Angelo Valestilo,” Angelo says coolly, flicking a gold coin toward the guard. “We want to speak with the Librarian.”The man catches the coin, glances at it, then grunts. “Magic word accepted.”A metal detector beeps weakly as we pass. I doubt it could detect a bazooka, let alone a knife. Nate’s hand stays firm on my lower back, silent, steady. As we step into the hallway, it feels more like a tunnel tight and damp. My heels echo in a rhythm that sets my nerves on edge.We stop before a thick mahogany door.“This is going to be simple,” Angelo says, looking Nate dead in the eye. “We go in, get the answers, and walk out. No drama. No blood. Civilized. Understood?”Blood? My stomach churns. I know things are getting dangerous, but… can it really get that bad?“Nate?” Angelo raises a brow.Nate’s jaw tightens like he wants to argue. But then, he nods. “Understood.”“Good.” Angelo pushes open the door. The room is nothing like I expected. When they said librarian, I imagined
