The Woman Who Shouldn’t Be There

“This is your life now.”

Alexander’s words echoed in my mind as I stepped fully into the mansion.

Everything was… overwhelming.

The high ceilings. The polished floors.

The quiet elegance that screamed money and power.

I felt out of place.

Like I didn’t belong here.

“Madam, this way,” a maid said respectfully, gesturing for me to follow.

Madam.

The word still felt strange.

I glanced at Alexander, he but he was already walking ahead, his attention elsewhere-as if I was no longer his concern.

So that was it.

In public, I was his wife.

But here?

I was just… part of the arrangement.

I followed the maid up the grand staircase, my heels echoing softly with each step.

“Your room has been prepared,” she said.

Your room.

Not our room.

That didn’t go unnoticed.

The door opened to a beautiful space-larger than anything I had ever seen before.

But before I could take it all in-

A sharp voice cut through the air.

“So it’s true.”

I froze.

Slowly, I turned.

A woman stood at the entrance.

Elegant. Beautiful. Dressed in confidence and entitlement.

Her eyes scanned me from head to toe, lingering just long enough to make the insult clear.

“This is the woman you married?” she asked, her tone dripping with disbelief.

I didn’t need an introduction.

I already knew.

She was trouble.

Alexander stepped into the room behind her, his expression unreadable.

“Vanessa,” he said calmly.

So that was her name.

Vanessa crossed her arms, a small smile playing on her lips.

“I leave for one trip, and you get married?” she said lightly “To… this?”

The insult was obvious.

My fingers tightened at my sides, but I said nothing.

Not yet.

Alexander didn’t respond either.

Which only seemed to annoy her more.

“I hope this is a joke,” she continued, stepping closer. “Because if it is, it’s not funny.”

“It’s not a joke,” he replied simply.

Silence.

For a split second, something dark flashed across her face.

But she recovered quickly.

“Oh,” she said softly. “So you are serious.”

Her gaze shifted back to me.

Colder this time.

“You,” she said, pointing slightly. “Do you even know who you married?”

I met her eyes refusing to look away.

“Yes,” I said quietly. “My husband.”

Her smile widened-but there was no warmth in it.

“Careful,” she murmured. “That title doesn’t belong to you.”

Before I could respond-

“It does not.”

Alexander’s voice cut in.

Firm.

Final.

Vanessa turned to him slowly.

“You can’t be serious,” she said, her calm finally cracking. “After everything, you just replace me like this?”

Replace?

That word hit me harder than I expected.

So that’s what this was.

Not random.

Not sudden.

There was history here.

“I don’t recall making any promises to you,” Alexander replied coolly.

Her expression hardened.

“You didn’t have to,” she said. “Everyone knows that I’m the one who’s supposed to be by your side.”

“Then everyone is wrong.”

The tension in the room thickened.

Vanessa laughed softly, but it sounded forced.

“Fine,” she said. “Let’s play along.”

She stepped closer to me, her heels clicking against the floor.

Up close, her presence was even more intimidating.

“Enjoy it while it lasts,” she whispered low enough that only I could hear. “Girls like you do t survive in this world.”

My chest tightened.

But instead of backing down-

I stepped forward.

Closing the distance between us.

“Then I guess I will be the first,” I replied calmly.

For a brief moment-

She looked surprised.

Just for a second.

Then it was gone.

Her surprise disappeared, replaced by something sharper.

“Interesting,” Vanessa said coldly.

“I said I was weak,” I replied.

The tension between us lingered before she turned to Alexander.

“This isn’t over,” she warned.

“It never started,” he answered.

With that, she left.

The room felt heavy after she was gone.

“That woman-“ I began.

“Stay away from her,” Alexander cut in.

“And if she doesn’t stay away from me?”

“Handle it.”

His answer was clear-he wouldn’t protect me.

I let out a quiet breath. “Of course.”

I was on my own.

“And you?” I asked. “Whose side are you on?”

“I don’t take sides.”

It stung but I hid it.

“Good,” I said. “Then don’t interfere when I fight back.”

He looked at me for a moment and walked away without another word.

Left alone, I looked around the unfamiliar room.

This life wasn’t going to be easy.

But one thing was certain-

I wasn’t going to let it break me.

The drive back to the mansion was painfully quiet.Neither of us spoke. The folded note Alexander had taken remained in his coat pocket, but I could still picture the words burned into my mind.Leave now if you want to live.I turned to the window, watching the city lights blur past.A few days ago, I had thought marrying Alexander King would be the beginning of a new life. Now, it felt like I had stepped into someone else’s nightmare. The car rolled through the gate of the mansion. As soon as it stopped, I reached for the door.“Amara.”I paused but didn’t turn.“I’ve increased security around the house,” Alexander said. “No one gets in or out without my permission.”A small laugh escaped my lips.“You still don’t get it.”This time, I faced him.“It’s not the mansion I’m trying to get away from.”His eyes met mine.“It’s all of this.”Without waiting for a reply, I walked inside.I didn’t go to my bedroom.Instead, I wandered through the quiet hallway, trying to clear my head. Not

The hospital corridor erupted into chaos.Doctors and nurses rushed in different directions while the security guards searched everywhere.Even after that she was not found. It was as if she had disappeared into the air.I stood outside the room, staring at the empty bed through the glass window. It didn’t make sense. She had barely regained consciousness. She couldn’t have walked out on her own.Alexander personal assistant quietly spoke to the head of security.“Seal every exit.”“It’s already done, sir.”“Then check every security camera from the last one hour.”The guard nodded and hurried away. The guard nodded and hurried away.I folded my arms across my chest.“This keeps happening.”Alexander quietly whispered.“What does?”“Every time I get close to the truth, something happens.”He didn’t deny it.For a brief moment, his expression hardened before returning to its usual calm.“We’ll find another lead.”I let out a tired laugh.“That’s what you always say.”He looked at me bu

  • The Billionaire’s Replacement Bride   Too Late

The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime. The moment we stepped onto the intensive care floor, I knew something was wrong. The hallway was unusual quiet. Too quiet. Doctors and nurses hurried past us, their expressions tense, avoiding eye contact as though something terrible had happened. The doctor leading us stopped outside Room 307. He turned to Alexander. “Mr. King… only two minutes. She’s very weak.” Alexander gave a slight nod. “We won’t be long.” The doctor pushed the door open. The smell of antiseptic filled my nose the moment I stepped inside. The room was brightly lit, almost painfully so, yet it felt strangely cold. Machines hummed softly in the background. My footsteps slowed as I walked beside Alexander. My eyes immediately found the woman lying on the hospital bed. The maid. Bandages covered the left side of her forehead, bruises marked her arms. Tubes and wires surrounded her, while the steady beeping of the heart monitor filled the room. She looked

“The maid who just spoke to you…” Alexander said quietly. “…has been attacked.” For a second, I thought I had heard him wrong. “What?” My voice came out as nothing more than a whisper. “The hospital notified me few minutes ago.” My throat tightened. “No…” The frightened woman who had just nervously whispered about the break-in was now lying in a hospital bed because she had spoken to me. A suddenly felt guilty. “This is my fault.” Alexander’s gaze settled on me. “No.” “If I hadn’t questioned her-“ “You didn’t do this.” His tone was calm, firm, leaving no room for argument. “The person responsible made that decision long before you spoke to her.” Before I could respond, he turned and walked toward the bedroom door. His long strides were purposeful, leaving me no choice but to hurry after him. By the time we stepped into the hallway, two men in black suits were already waiting. Bodyguards. The moment they saw Alexander, they straightened. “Mr. King.” “Prepare the c

  • The Billionaire’s Replacement Bride   The Name he couldn’t ignore

For the first time since I had met him, the confidence in his eyes disappeared. “What did you just say?” he asked quietly. “I…” My fingers tightened around the edge of the door. “A maid mentioned the name. She looked terrified the moment she realized what she’d said. His jaw clenched. “Who is she?” “I don’t know.” He stared at me for several long seconds, as if weighing whether to believe me. “Did she tell you anything else?” I slowly shook my head. “No. She apologized and ran away before I could ask another question.” A heavy silence settled between us. Then, without another word, Alexander brushed past me and went back to wardrobe. His eyes swept across every corner. The dressing. The open jewelry box. Nothing escaped his attention. Finally, he stopped in front of the wardrobe. “You were right,” he murmured. “Someone was in this room.” A chill went down my spine. “If they weren’t looking for jewelry….” I whispered. “What were they looking

  • The Billionaire’s Replacement Bride   An Uninvited Visitor

The moment the maid whispered the name…. My heart pounded, and my mouth suddenly went dry. Before I could ask more questions, the maid eyes widened. She glanced nervously down the hallway before looking back at me. Her fingers twisted the edge of her apron, and for a moment she seemed unsure whether to say another word. “I’m sorry, Mrs. King. Please forget I said anything.” Then she lowered her head and walked away quickly. The unfamiliar name lingered in my mind, though I couldn’t understand why the maid looked so frightened after saying it. I locked the door behind me and quickly scanned the room. At first glance, everything looked exactly as I had left it. Just as I was beginning to feel relaxed I saw a small change in my wardrobe. It was slightly open. I moved closer and my jewelry box had been moved. I took my jewelry box and searched through it, nothing had been moved. Everything was exactly where it should be. A small sigh of relief escaped my lips until I s
