The question hit me so hard that for a moment, I forgot how to breathe.
Before I could even process it, Damien cleared his throat and his voice carried across the entire office.
“This is Anna Sanders,” he announced. “She’ll be taking over the Vega project from now on.”
For a second, I just stood there.
Taking over the Vega project.
My project.
The one I had spent months building from nothing.
The one I had poured countless sleepless nights into.
The one I had practically lived and breathed.
Anna stepped forward with a graceful smile on her face, looking completely at ease.
“I’m excited to work with all of you,” she said softly.
As she spoke, her gaze drifted toward Damien and a small smile appeared on her lips, almost as though she was thanking him for handing her everything she wanted.
Immediately, whispers spread through the office.
“Wait, wasn’t Bella in charge of the Vega project?” someone murmured under their breath.
“Yeah, she was,” another voice replied with pity slipping in. “It was actually her biggest assignment. Shame it got taken off her just like that.”
The words overlapped in fragments, circling the space in hushed tones.
My project that I had spent months building was handed over without my permission. And this woman was standing in the place I’d always been denied.
Her soft laugh. Her flirtatious tone. The way she leaned toward him ever so slightly.
It all made my blood boil.
The moment the crowd began dispersing, I turned around and marched straight toward Damien’s office. I pushed the door open and stepped inside.
“Why would you take my project away from me?” I demanded.
He looked up from what he was doing and stared at me intently.
My voice trembled slightly.
I hated that it did.
“You didn’t even think to discuss it with me first. Do you have any idea how hard I’ve worked on that project? Do you have any idea how much time I’ve invested into it? And you gave it away just like that?”
His expression barely changed.
“It was an impromptu decision.”
The calmness in his voice felt like a slap.
“My mother thought it would be a good opportunity for Anna. The project is nearly complete, so she can use it to gain experience.”
For a moment, I honestly thought I had misheard.
“Gain experience?”
The words came out as a bitter laugh. “You took months of my hard work and handed it to someone else so she could gain experience?”
My chest rose and fell unevenly.
“Do you even hear yourself right now?”
His jaw tightened slightly. “Bella.”
“No, answer me.” I shook my head while my eyes burned. “Do you even still see me as your wife?”
“You are my wife,” he said. “But don’t forget that she’s my sister. Can’t you just do this for her? Besides, this company also belongs to you, so you can take on any other project you’re interested in doing. Why are you so fixated on this project?”
I felt my chest constrict as I whispered, my voice breaking. “This is your company, not mine.”
His eyes softened slightly. “We’re married. That means what’s mine is yours too.”
“Really?” I let out a short, humorless breath. “Then transfer me some of your properties right now. If everything you own belongs to both of us, then prove it..”
To my shock, he immediately opened a drawer. A few seconds later, he pulled out a folder and slid it across the desk.
“This—” His voice dropped lower. “This is a signed property transfer agreement. It was finalized weeks ago. It belongs to you and our future child.”
My fingers hesitated before touching it. The lump in my throat grew and finally, the words I had been clutching inside me threatened to spill.
“I have something to tell you. I’m— ”
A soft knock cut through the moment.
“Sister-in-law?” Anna’s voice called out while she entered the office, she sounded hesitant and sweet. “Please don’t be mad at my brother because of me. If you really don’t want me handling the project, I’ll give it back.”
I didn’t even glance at her since Damien just reassured me.
The anger inside me had already begun fading.
So instead of responding, I simply turned and started walking toward the door.
Unfortunately, Anna followed me.
“Sister-in-law, I’m really sorry.”
Her voice echoed behind me as we walked toward the elevators.
“I don’t know why he’s always been like this. Ever since we were children, he’s always done whatever he thought was best for me. Sometimes even when it inconveniences other people.”
“Thank you for apologizing,” I replied calmly. “But Damien already compensated me by transferring several properties to me.”
The moment those words left my mouth, her expression changed. The polite smile faltered and the softness disappeared, replaced by obvious frustration.
I pressed the elevator button to go back down, but Anna still trailed behind me apologizing to me.
“Stop following me, I already said it’s not a big deal.” I said coldly. “Go do your job and you’d better not mess it up. Because I won’t help you clean it up.”
She bit her lip, acting aggrieved.
Then—
A deafening bang erupted around us.
The entire elevator shook violently, the lights flickered and my stomach dropped.
The floor disappeared beneath my feet and a scream finally tore from my throat. I slammed into the wall, sliding down as another jolt shook the elevator.
Minutes or maybe seconds passed like hours. Every movement sent stabbing pain through my belly.
Then I heard Damien’s voice. He was shouting from above. Anna cried out in response, her voice trembling.
“Damien.” My voice cracked in desperation. “Please help me.”
The emergency hatch finally opened and light poured into the darkness.
He climbed down and hope filled me.
Then Anna started crying loudly. “Damien, I’m scared.”
He bent down and carried Anna in his arms, trying to calm her down with his words. I pressed myself against the wall.
“Damien.” My voice came out weak.
“Just wait,” he said coolly. “Anna has claustrophobia. I need to get her out first.”
Then he turned around and walked away carrying her leaving me behind.
The pain in my abdomen twisted tighter.
My fingers trembled as I pressed both hands against my stomach.
Tears slipped down my cheeks.
“My baby,” I whispered.
Sebastian Long after Bella and I left the terrace, my mind refused to calm down. The conversation I had with Claire earlier that evening replayed over and over inside my head.Every single word she had spoken.Every single answer I had given.Especially the moment I bluntly told her that I did not love her. That conversation had forced me to confront something I had spent weeks trying to ignore. If I truly did not love Claire…Then why had it become so easy to reject the possibility of ever being with her?Why had I felt absolutely nothing while saying those painful words?More importantly, if my heart no longer belonged to the person I once believed I cared about. Then who exactly had taken that place? The answer appeared almost instantly.Bella.There was only one woman who occupied my thoughts every single day.Only one woman whose smile somehow managed to improve my mood without even trying. Only one woman whose opinions had begun influencing my decisions without me realizing it
Bella It was already late in the evening when I finally heard the front door open downstairs. For some reason, I found myself instinctively glancing toward the entrance. The moment Sebastian walked inside, I noticed he was not alone.Claire was walking beside him. No…Walking was probably the wrong word. She looked emotionally drained. Her shoulders lacked their usual confidence, and although she was trying to keep her composure, there was something painfully defeated about her expression.I stood from the kitchen island almost immediately.Concern naturally replaced every other thought in my mind.I walked over to Sebastian.“What happened to her?”Sebastian glanced briefly toward Claire before looking back at me.His expression remained calm, although I noticed a trace of exhaustion lingering behind his eyes.“She became frustrated while looking for apartments today, things simply did not go the way she expected them to go, so she is just emotionally drained right now.”I slowly no
Sebastian By the time Bella and I finally arrived home that evening, exhaustion had begun settling into every part of my body. The day had been far longer than I expected. As soon as I stepped into the living room, I instinctively looked around the house.Claire was nowhere to be found. My brows furrowed even deeper. That did not sound like Claire. Especially after I specifically told her that I would see her once I returned home.A strange feeling of uneasiness slowly settled inside me.Without wasting another moment, I reached for my phone and dialed her number. The call rang several times before ending without an answer.I tried again.Once again…Nothing.I switched to sending text messages instead.Still there was no response. With every passing minute, my concern continued growing.I knew Claire well enough to recognize this pattern.Whenever she became emotional, she had a habit of disappearing and refusing to communicate with anyone.Eventually, my phone vibrated.A message
Bella After Sebastian finished treating the small wound on my finger and made sure that the bleeding had stopped, he finally released my hand with visible reluctance. He glanced toward Claire before speaking in a calm voice.“I will see you later when we get back to the house, you should head home first.”Although Claire tried to keep a pleasant expression on her face, I could clearly see the disappointment flashing through her eyes. For a brief moment, she looked like she wanted to argue. However, after realizing that Sebastian had already made up his mind, she forced a small smile and nodded.“Alright, Sebastian.”Sebastian merely gave a polite nod before leading me toward the waiting car.Once we were both seated inside, the driver pulled away from the venue and merged into the busy traffic.I leaned back against my seat, intending to finally relax after everything that had happened.Just then, my phone vibrated.I lowered my gaze and saw that the message had come from my personal
Bella I could barely contain my excitement as I showed Sebastian the email on my screen. He read through the email from beginning to end.A small smile slowly appeared across his face. Then he looked back at me.“Congratulations, Bella. Opportunities like this do not come around often, and receiving an invitation from someone you have admired for years speaks volumes about everything you have achieved.”I nodded excitedly.“The CEO wants to meet with me personally. They are interested in collaborating with my company on a major project, I honestly never imagined something like this would happen so soon.”Sebastian handed the phone back to me. There was unmistakable pride in his eyes.“Your hard work is finally beginning to pay off, Bella. You have earned every bit of this through your own determination, talent, and persistence.”His words warmed me much more than I expected. As excited as I was about the meeting itself.Somehow, hearing Sebastian praise me felt equally rewarding.I
Sebastian After everything that happened the previous night, I spent a long time thinking about my actions. The more I reflected on everything, the more I realized that I had made a mistake without even noticing it.Ever since Claire arrived, I had been giving her far more attention than necessary. At first, I convinced myself that I was only looking after someone who had survived a traumatic experience. Now, I was no longer so certain.Whether I intended it or not, my actions had begun affecting the relationship I had built with Bella. The trust between us had already started cracking. If I continued behaving the same way, the fragile understanding Bella and I had worked so hard to establish would fall apart. That was the last thing I wanted.I silently promised myself that I would start handling the situation much better from now onward. The following morning, all three of us gathered around the dining table for breakfast. The atmosphere remained noticeably tense.Bella concentrate
BellaGritting my teeth through the ache, I pushed myself forward, one slow step after another, my knees wobbling beneath me as I forced them not to give out.And then I saw my husband’s car and well, I couldn’t help it. My face lit up and just like that, all of it got a little lighter. I even quic

Bella I followed behind them quietly, though my steps gradually slowed.By the time I reached the guest room, Damien had already helped Anna onto the bed.He lowered her carefully, one arm supporting her back while the other remained around her waist. Even after she was seated comfortably, he didn
Bella Wasn’t that bracelet meant for me?The thought struck hard, cutting through the lingering haze in my mind. When they finally noticed my presence, introductions were made with little fanfare. Anna greeted me warmly enough and soon afterwards everyone moved towards the dining room for dinner.
