Chapter 3

Daisy’s POV

"Just sign the damn papers already." I couldn't believe my ears. I was definitely dreaming, I needed a pinch to wake me up. It was real, as real as daylight.

"No. I wouldn't." I stood my grounds.

"Yes. You would ." He screamed at me. His loud voice made me quake. My hands couldn't stay steady. I began to sob and for a moment I saw his eyes and facial features soften but it went back to being hard again. He never does this. He is doing a lot of things he never does all in one day.

Realization hit me like a ton of bricks. His mother wants me out of his life. She is definitely the brain behind all of these. The same day she threatened me, the same day my marriage was falling apart already.

"This is your mother's doing, isn't it?" I asked him with tears in my eyes.

"No. This or whatever we had was long gone." He said, waving his fingers back and forth between us.

"But you kissed me everyday, you told me you loved me everyday." I cried even more.

"All words, they were all just words. You are just so gullible." He shook his head as he laughed while saying the words that broke my heart even further.

"No. You did not just say that." I said trying to convince myself I didn't hear anything.

"You have been delusional the entire time. You think I'm some sort of prince charming to save you. Yes I did save you in a way —I saved you from poverty."

Never have I ever seen him filled with so much spite and contempt.

"I was just another charity case to you?"

"As a matter of fact, yes. It was not even hard, all I needed was a few good deeds and you spread your legs just like the whore that you are." I didn't know when I slapped him as the words finished coming out of his mouth. He looked so angry as if he was going to hit me. He stepped closer to me with his tall intimidating figure towering above me.

"Get out." He whispered into my ears. I was too stunned to speak.

"Get out of my house now!" He barked at me. He looked scary and almost animalistic.

"Please let me just spend the night, I will leave first thing in the morning." I pleaded but the plea fell on deaf ears.

"Leave now!"

"Okay" I started running towards the door when he called me back.

"Come back here. Take. Sign this papers" he gave me a pen and I frantically signed the papers.

I ran out scared and alone. The guards let the doors open for me without trying to stop me. They just watched me go like they already had instructions to.

I ran out into the lonely street and didn't stop until my breath almost went out. I was hurt, badly hurt. The one man I love with all my heart just shattered my heart. Maybe when he gets sober by tomorrow he will know he made a mistake and come back for me. Just maybe this is going to be my new permanent reality.

I searched for my phone. I need to call Stella. Hopefully, she will be able to come pick me up. I touched my joggers pocket and found nothing. No phone, I was stuck. Stella's house was a good thirty minutes drive away from here. How would I get there by foot?

In the midst of my worried thoughts, I felt raindrops. They came little by little until it became torrential. There was nowhere to hide, nobody to call, nobody to save me from this misery. All I could think of is my baby.

If we made it out alive today, nothing would stop us from living to full term. My clothes became wet and soggy. I didn't know what to do, confusion replaced my rational thoughts.

I needed to make a move but I was too cold to do anything. I cursed the day I met Clark and fell in love with him. At last, I decided to take my chance. I would knock on any doors I could and if they heard me, they might just be kind enough to help out.

The storm started. Lighting and thunder bolts were everywhere, fear crippled me and the last thing I remember was fading into black like a screenplay.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

The loud noise kept plaguing me more than the headache I was experiencing. I struggled to flutter my eyes open but to no avail. I didn't give up, my life was not supposed to end this way. I felt warm and very hungry as well.

Finally after much effort, I opened my eyes. I was not prepared for the bright light that hit my eyes. I tried to use my right hand to cover my eyes but I felt too weak to do so. A groan escaped my mouth as I struggled to flutter my eyes open until I was used to the light.

The most unusual thing happened. A really handsome man reached out his hand to my right shoulder.

"How are you?" His baritone voice woke me up completely. Have I died and gone to heaven already because there is no way this man is human. His eyes were so clear and bright. His brown colored orbs seemed like they could see through my soul. His man bun and sharp jawline made me question again if this was a man of a supernatural being.

"Hello sweetie" a kind voice in the background pulled me out of my revire. Her eyes looked kind too. She has a bronze skin tone just like the man beside her. She also has pretty black hair that flowed all the way to her waist. She had a cute kid on her hip as well. The kid just reminded me of my pregnancy.

"My baby?" I questioned with my hoarse voice.

"Your pregnancy is just fine and still intact" a strange voice said. Turns out it was the doctor, a short middle aged man with the typical white coat.

"Please excuse me, I would like to examine the patient." he said, referring to the mystery man and woman.

When they left he did some routine examinations. While he did all that, I noticed I was not in a regular hospital room. This one seemed larger, it had a nice view and even a TV. Definitely, a VIP room.

After the examination, he asked for my name and details. He also asked if there was anyone I could call. I gave him Stella's number. She picked her call on the first ring and promised to be at the hospital as soon as possible.

The man who I got to know as Alejandro picked me up the following morning from his sister's front yard right at the gate. Turns out he was there for a visit and the rain kept him there.

His sister, Valeria and her little boy Juan came along as he rushed me to the hospital. They were kind people and very concerned for my well being.

I also found out they had lost their sister 10 years ago and made it a tradition to always meet up on her memorial date and visit her tomb together. According to them it helped them continually remember their sister and cope with their grief.

"I'm sorry for your loss." I sympathized with them.

"Thank you Daisy." Valeria thanked me.

"How did she die?" I ask before I realize I had overstepped. Immediately I saw Alejandro's facial features become hardened. It was definitely a sore subject.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have asked." I apologized

"It's okay Daisy. She was killed"

"Yeah you should be" Alejandro spoke the same time she did. It was clear he took it personally.

"Alejandro be nice" his sister cautioned him and he went silent.

"What is your story? That is if you do not mind sharing." She asked me.

"I don't. My husband divorced me out of the blue and threw me out of the house."

"Such a bastard." Alejandro interrupted angrily.

"Alejandro! Sorry Daisy, he just gets ticked off when he hears a man mistreats his woman."

"He is not wrong, my husband, I mean my ex husband is one."

"Don't worry you will be fine. It won't be easy but you will be okay eventually." She reassured me.

"Thank you Valeria. Thank you too Alejandro. You both saved my life and my unborn baby."

"You are welcome." she responded while Alejandro only nodded in reply.

Stella showed up. Her face was contorted with worry. She hugged me tightly when she saw me. Alejandro and his family left the room to give us some privacy. I was really thankful for their gesture.

"I know you are going to say 'I told you so' ." I said guiltily.

"No, I would never do that. What matters now is that you are okay." She reassured me and hugged me.

I felt very safe with her. I wanted nothing more than to cry on her shoulder and she let me. I let it all out. All my feelings poured out in my tears. She said nothing, she just let me cry and when I was ready to talk she listened. She did so without any interruptions. She was what I really needed.

"You need to call him." She suggested.

"I would rather die than do that." I said authoritatively.

"He has the right to know. Who knows the news of the baby might bring him back to his senses." She implored.

"I stand by my word. I would not call him."

"Think of your child, what is best for him or her."

"You know better what it is like growing up without a father." she continued after a pause.

"Point of correction, I grew up without parents but my baby will have me and she will be just fine." I was adamant but her reasons were very valid.

"Hey, sorry to interrupt, you have been discharged. Alejandro is going to do all the paperwork." Valeria spoke.

"I am so excited to leave this place. Thank you." I stood up and got dressed. I changed from the hospital gown to a fresh pair of clothes Valeria brought for me. It was a loose flower dress but it fit me just right.

Alejandro drove us to Stella's home in his sister's Cadillac escalade. They went home after that but promised to come visiting once in a while.

"I want to call him"

"Oh finally. Do so right away."

He picked up at the first ring.

"Hello." I said.

"Hi. Who's this?" A soft feminine voice responded.

"I want to speak to Clark."

"He is still asleep but you can leave a message, I'm his fiancée."

"His what?" The tears came up all over again. How could he do this to me?
