Leo had asked me three different times not to come.

He even leaned against the door with one hand on the knob, turning back to say, “Bella, just wait here. I’ll let you know everything.”

But I didn’t say a word. I just grabbed my purse, brushed past him, and got into the passenger seat before he could argue again. By the time he got into the driver’s seat, I was already buckled in and staring straight ahead like it was final.

He didn’t fight me after that.

We had barely pulled out of the driveway when his hand slid across the center console, resting gently on my thigh. His thumb brushed small circles over the fabric of my jeans, and he didn’t say anything for a while. Just drove, one hand on the wheel, the other keeping me grounded.

“You okay driving?” I asked, glancing at him from the side.

His eyes stayed on the road, but a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

“I am,” he said. “I wasn’t, for a while. But since I saw you again, I don’t know. It doesn’t scare me anymore.”

author povBella followed closely behind Leo, quickening her steps to keep up with him. He didn't say a word as he stormed down the hallway and pushed open the front doors of the police station. She nearly had to jog to keep up once they hit the parking lot."Leo, please slow down. Just talk to me. Where are you going?" she said, reaching out and grabbing the sleeve of his jacket. He shook her off without looking back, yanking open the driver’s door. She ran around the car and stood in front of it, blocking his path."You can’t just go there and lose control. Let’s think this through. Please. Just talk to me."He finally looked at her. His jaw was clenched so tight, she could see the tension in his neck."Get in the car, Bella. Now."She hesitated, then moved aside, her hands trembling slightly as she opened the passenger side and got in. He started the engine, slammed it into gear, and drove off without another word. His hands gripped the wheel tightly. She glanced at him, brushing h

The moment the handcuffs clicked around Leo’s wrists, the entire house fell into stunned silence. The staff that had been peeking from the corners stepped back quickly, whispering among themselves. His mother stood frozen at the bottom of the staircase, mouth slightly open but saying nothing. Bella couldn't move. Her legs felt stiff and her heart had dropped somewhere into her stomach. She reached forward as he was guided toward the door.“Leo,” she called out, her voice breaking. He turned to glance at her briefly, nodding once, like he wanted to reassure her, but it didn’t land. Nothing about this felt right. The officers didn’t manhandle him. They weren’t shouting. They didn’t drag him out. Everything about it was calm, cold, and terrifying.“Wait, what is this about?” Bella asked, following them quickly. One of the officers looked at her with a clipped expression.“We just need to bring him in for questioning,” the officer explained. “Mr. Rathore is a public figure. When someone o

I didn’t let go of his hand. Not even for a second. The officers had finally released him after hours of questioning, but I could still feel how tense his fingers were, locked with mine like he was holding on just to stay grounded. His face didn’t show much, as usual, but I could tell. He wasn’t fine.“Are you okay?” I asked him again as we stepped outside the station. He gave me the same answer as before, voice low, almost tired, “I’m fine, Bella. Let’s just go home.”I didn’t push further. I just followed him quietly to the car, still clinging to his hand. Dennis was already at the curb, waiting with the back door open. He gave a stiff nod as Leo slid into the car, then I followed. The door shut with a heavy thud behind us, sealing in the silence.Dennis glanced at us through the rearview mirror before starting the car. “I’ve already made some calls,” he began, eyes focused ahead. “I’ll control the narrative, Leo. We’ll put out a statement in the morning. Just a brief press release.

Bella's POV I may be the bride at this wedding, but I’m definitely not the center of attention. Stella stood out, wearing a stunning white gown. White. Everyone knew the first rule of attending a wedding was to not wear white but Stella didn't care. I stared at her as she walked into the wedding, her head glancing left and right, I knew who she was looking for, my soon-to-be husband, and her brother who treated her like she was the whole world, Leo. Sensing my gaze on her, she started to walk our way. I closed my eyes tight, my fist in a ball beside me. It had been three years since Leo and I got together, and since I started living with him in his family's mansion. No one had taken me in after losing my parents in that wretched accident sixteen years ago but Leo was the first to keep me by his side. He was my Mr. Perfect, if I could forget Stella, his adopted sister, existed . She was like a barnacle that clung stubbornly to him, popping up during our every crucial

I stared at the blood beneath me, my entire body frozen. My heart pounded so hard it felt like it might burst. “Help! Somebody, please help!” I screamed, my voice breaking and echoing into the empty forest. No one answered. No one ever looked back until the last guest disappeared from my sight. As if to make things worse, I heard the cracking sound of thunder through the skies, immediately followed by pouring rain that drowned out my cries. My hands trembled as I pressed them to my stomach, tears streaming down my face. “No, no, no,” I whispered, shaking my head. My breaths came in short, shallow gasps as fear hooked me. I grabbed my phone, dialing Leo with shaking hands. It rang once, twice, then straight to voicemail. My stomach sank. He wasn’t coming. I decided to text him instead, ‘Leo I’m bleeding , I need help.’ For a moment, I just sat there, helpless and scared. I clenched my fists, forcing myself to breathe through the pain. “You can do this,” I whispered. M

I resumed walking slowly and my confusion soon turned to dread as I reached the door and peered inside. My hands fell limp to my side and the color drained from my face. Stella’s laughter reached my ears first. She was lying on the hospital bed, she didn’t look sick one bit but she smiled as Leo fussed over her. He adjusted her blanket, brushed her hair away from her face, and spoke to her in a low, tender voice. So he was here this whole time, while I cried alone, and wanted to die, he was here with her, ignoring my calls, my messages, leaving me in the dense forest alone struggling to live. Tears stung at my eyes and I couldn't bring my feet to move. My heart sank further when I saw what he held in his hand—the ruby necklace. My grandmother’s heirloom. He placed it gently around her neck, his fingers lingering just long enough to make my stomach twist. Stella’s face lit up with joy, and she touched the necklace like it was a treasure. The way they looked at each other—it

As I walked out of the ward, I expected to hear his voice, to listen to him call me back, to hold my wrist and stop me, to ask me what bullshit I was doing. But he didn't.He let me walk out of that room without looking back.Once I was out of the ward, a sarcastic smile spread across my lips as the tears continued to pour down my cheeks, "what were you expecting?" I almost laughed at myself.I wasn't Stella, so why would he pull at me like I mattered?*I flinched at the loud thunder rumbling as soon as I stepped outside the hospital room. The rain pouring right after was soaking me to the bone. The nurses had pleaded with me to stay, citing my condition, but I couldn’t. Not with Stella just down the hall, basking in Leo’s attention. Not with Leo’s indifference cutting me deeper than any physical pain.I signed the discharge papers, ignoring the doctor’s concerned look, and stepped into the storm. Looking like a lunatic in a hospital gown and barefoot in the rain.None of the taxis

Two years later Leo pov Dennis knocked softly on my office door, peeking in. He cleared his throat as if he was trying to announce his presence. “Mr. Rathore, it’s time for the business banquet. The car is ready.” I adjusted the cufflinks on my shirt. “I’ll be down in five," I said, without looking up. "Yes sir," my assistant nodded before taking his leave. I slipped my suit on, got to my feet after closing the laptop on the desk and headed towards the door. The secretary—her name escaped me—followed me as I stepped out of the office. She walked quickly, her heels clicking against the floor with every step. Her dress was bright red, tight, and it showed off her curves. It looked like she was trying a little too hard for an office outfit. Her lips were painted the same bold shade, matching her dress perfectly. She kept her expression focused, but there was something off about it. Her eyes flicked over me, not just looking at my face but taking in everything else, too. As she

I heard a voice. It was deep and sudden, and my whole body locked up. I turned so fast that my heart slammed against my ribs. My hand reached for the closest thing—a charger sitting on the table. I gripped it tight, lifting it high, ready to defend myself.Footsteps came toward me. Closer. Too close. I screamed and swung hard. But strong hands grabbed my wrist before I could hit anything. I screamed again, fighting against the grip, my chest rising and falling as I struggled to pull free. Then I heard it.Leo’s voice, low and urgent, said my name, said it was him. I blinked fast, vision blurring from panic and tears, and finally saw his face. His eyes were wide with concern. I dropped the charger. My knees buckled. He caught me instantly, one arm locking around my waist, the other cradling my head. I crashed into his chest, face buried against his shirt, sobs breaking free before I could stop them. I shook in his arms, unable to speak at first. He lowered us both to the couch, never l

My head was still spinning, but at least now I could see.The light above flickered faintly as I sat against the cold wall, legs tucked under me. Leo was right beside me, crouched low, one hand gripping mine, the other rubbing small circles along my back. He hadn't moved from my side since they untied me. His jacket was around my shoulders. When the paramedics finished checking my pulse and cleared me for now, I turned my face toward him, voice small. "Where are they? The ones who took me?"He looked up slowly, jaw flexed. "They ran. Police chased them, but by the time they got into the building, the whole place was empty. Except for you."I swallowed, letting that sink in. "Where is this place?"He stood up halfway and scanned the shadows around us. "Old warehouse. Not far from the main road. Looked abandoned.""How did you even find me?"He looked at me then, finally sitting beside me. "Your phone. You left it in the car. I tracked it, but when I got to the street and saw the car wi

My head felt heavy, like someone had dropped a rock on it. I groaned softly, trying to move, but something was wrapped tightly across my face. I blinked under the blindfold, confused and tense. It took a few seconds before I realized my hands were pulled back and tied. Not just tied, they were tight. The rope scratched against my skin every time I tried to move.My ankles were bound too. My body was flat against something hard and cold—probably a floor. My breathing turned shallow as I tried to sit up, twisting my wrists, pulling hard. Nothing gave.I turned my head slightly, hoping for sound, for anything."Hello?" My voice cracked. It sounded small, echoing against bare walls.I swallowed, my throat dry. "Please. Who are you? What do you want from me?"There was no answer. Just the hum of quiet. My chest tightened.Footsteps approached, slow and controlled. My body stiffened as I turned my head toward the sound. I didn’t know who it was. My heart raced. Then came a voice. One I knew

The sunlight was already peeking through the curtains when I opened my eyes. The bed felt warm beside me, his arm still lazily draped over my waist. I shifted a little, and he stirred, his lips brushing against my shoulder.“Morning,” he mumbled, voice low and thick with sleep.I turned to face him, smiling. “Morning.”He leaned in slowly and kissed my forehead, then my cheek, then finally my lips. It was soft, slow, like he wasn’t ready to let me leave yet.“You sure you have to go?” he asked, his hand sliding to my lower back.I laughed, dragging my fingers through his messy hair. “Yes, I have to work. You do too.”He groaned and buried his face in my neck, then kissed my collarbone once before finally letting me sit up.We both got ready quietly, stealing glances in the mirror as we moved around each other. At one point, he wrapped his arms around my waist from behind while I was putting on my lipstick, resting his chin on my shoulder and swaying me side to side. When it was time t

By the time we got home, I couldn’t even remember the last time I smiled that much. The ride back was quiet, but the kind of quiet that made you feel full inside. My head rested against the seat, his hand holding mine the whole way, his thumb brushing lazy circles over my skin.As soon as we stepped into the house, he locked the door behind us, tossed the keys into the bowl near the wall, and turned to me.I stood in the hallway, slipping off my shoes, when I felt his eyes on me.I glanced up. “What?”He didn’t answer. Just stepped closer and reached out, brushing a piece of hair behind my ear. His hand stayed there, cupping the side of my face.“You still look like trouble,” he muttered.I rolled my eyes. “You said that at dinner.”“Still true.”He leaned in and kissed me slowly. No rush, no pressure, just lips that knew where to find mine and fingers that held me still. I kissed him back, my arms sliding up around his neck, pulling him closer.Somewhere between that kiss and the nex
