(Damian POV)

What a good day to kill someone, I thought as I sipped my black coffee while looking out the beautiful view from my penthouse. “This view never gets old” I said while enjoying the little peace I get every day but of course, it never last long… “Good morning boss” mehn I wish I can kill this guy already. “What do you want Arnold?” I said while eye brows raised and eyes filled with rage. “S... sorry sir but your brother is at the lobby waiting for you” he said with trembling voice, sigh… “Fine, I’ll be down in 15, now leave me alone” “yes sir” he said with hurried feet. I got downstairs after an hour; yes I know I said after 15 but fuck it, I can do whatever I want. “This better be important David” “quit your whining big brother, I just came to check to see if you were still alive” he said

“Hahaha very funny, you have seen me, now you can go”

“Cool down bro, what’s the rush anyways, we got the address of Mr. James, the one that owes money from the casino in Boston”

“Now you are giving news that I will love to hear, I knew I was going to kill someone today” I said with a grin. This is going to be fun. “Book me the next flight to Boston Arnold” “yes sir” he said.

Where are my manners, my name is Damian Blackwood, first born of 3; A brother and a cute little sister, I swear she has us wrapped around her cute little finger. We lived with our grandparents after our parents were brutally murdered by one of our rivals, it was tough growing up without them, grand pa was hard on me and David but he always cherished Katie, my sister. My grand ma was the sweetest and still is, she loved us all equally.

I was 15 years old when our parents died and as the first born I had to be the one to step up and rule my father’s businesses, even the ones underground that I didn’t know were there. No wonder dad was a knuckle head. For 12 years I have been the mafia boss and boy was I feared. I became heartless, emotionless and grew a liking for see the blood of my enemies, and anyone who dears cross my path, roll down their body as I slice them bit by bit while being hanged. I know it’s sick but that’s your freaking business, get a better hobby then.

(End of back story)

Few minutes later, I was on the plane heading to Boston. My brother filled me in on what Mr. James have being up to for the last 5 years. He remarried after his wife died from a car accident to a very beautiful, much younger woman and he has a step daughter, wow… she is one beautiful soul. Her forest green eyes can make a man get lost just looking at it and with her slender yet curvy petite body, her skin looks like it was made from a body factory, smooth, flawless caramel skin. Oh... what I will do with this body I thought.

“Uhh… bro you alright there?” he said with a slight grin on his face, eyes looking like they are about to cry from holding a laughter and the while looking down at my pants, oh great, now I’m hard. “Piss off David, it’s not of your business” I said with an eye roll “oops, my bad bro” he said with his hands up but still had that stupid grin that I wanted to wipe out so bad. “You’re lucky you are my brother, you wouldn’t have breath anymore by now” I said with knitted brows.

After what felt like forever, we got to Boston and my men were there waiting for me to take me to my office. “Do we know his whereabouts right now?” I asked looking at one of my men sitting in front. “Yes boss we do, he is currently with his wife and daughter having brunch at Starbucks”

“Perfect, what a pleasant way to meet my bride” I said with a glint of evil circling in my eye. David looked at me with a raised brow “bride? What are you up to Damian?”

“Oh, you’ll see” I cannot wait to get my hands on you Elena, I thought as we got closer to my office.

ELENA POV He kissed me again. Not careful. Not restrained. It wasn’t soft this time — it was claiming. It was promise. It was something that made my knees weak and my heart feel too big for my chest. His hand tightened at my waist, pulling me closer. For one reckless second, I forgot about Anton. About the war. About everything. And then— BOOM. The entire mansion shook. The sound wasn’t thunder. It was closer. The windows rattled. A sharp cracking noise split through the air as one of the tall glass panels shattered inward. I screamed. Damian’s body moved before I could think. He spun, pulling me down with him as shards of glass sprayed across the marble floor. “Stay down!” he barked. Another explosion—this one farther away. Alarms began blaring instantly. My ears rang. “What is happening?!” I gasped. Every where was like a blur as I look around. Damian’s arm was locked around me, shielding my head with his body. “Targeted blast,” he said tightly. “Controlled.

ELENA POV The mansion was quiet for once. Too quiet. The storm outside tapped softly against the tall glass windows, rain sliding down in silver streaks. Damian had just finished another tense call in his office, but when he stepped out and saw me standing near the fireplace, something in his expression softened. “You should be resting,” he said. “You should be sleeping,” I replied. A faint huff of amusement escaped him. We stood there for a moment. Just looking at each other, feeling each other's warmth but not touching each other... oh my gosh... my heart will not burst out of my chest. Since the hospital… since the confession… something had changed. The space between us felt thinner. Charged. “Are you still afraid?” I asked quietly. “Of Anton?” he said. “Of us.” That made him still. He walked toward me slowly, like approaching something fragile. “I’m not afraid of what I feel,” he said lowly. “Then what are you afraid of?” His hand lifted, hesitated in the air nea

ELENA POV The room felt different after his confession. Not lighter. But clearer. Like the fog between us had finally lifted. Damian still held my hand, though I wasn’t sure he realized it. His thumb brushed absentmindedly against my knuckles, slow, grounding, almost like he was checking that I was real. My heart is all I can hear at this moment and its not out of panic but a different feeling that I am starting to accept. “You chose me,” I repeated softly. His jaw tightened slightly. “I would do it again.” there my heart goes again... There was no arrogance in his voice. No dominance. Just certainty. The kind that makes your chest ache. “Even if it costs you everything?” I asked. He finally looked at me fully. “It already has.” Something in my heart shifted. All this time I thought he controlled everything. That he stood above it all — untouchable. But sitting here now, he didn’t look untouchable. He looked human. And tired. “Damian,” I whispered. He leaned closer

The hospital room was quiet.Too quiet. The fire had taken the edge off my anger, but it hadn’t taken away the questions. If anything, it made them heavier.Damian stood by the window, city lights reflecting off the glass. His shoulders looked broader somehow — like he carried something invisible and crushing. I wonder what weight he carries in his life, I thought.“You said this started years ago,” I said softly. “Before my father.”He didn’t turn around immediately.“Yes.”“Tell me.”Silence.Then a slow exhale.“You’re not going to like what you hear.”“I already don’t like what I don’t know.”That made him glance back at me. His eyes looking so distant and cold. After a moment, he pulled the chair closer to my bed and sat down. Close enough that I could see the tension in his jaw.“Anton and I weren’t always enemies,” he began. My stomach dropped.“What?”“We were partners.”The word felt wrong. D

They were allies. Not friends. Allies. After Damian’s parents were murdered in a corrupt trade deal, he inherited Blackwood Industries at twenty-three. He was young. Angry. Ruthless. Anton was older. (Anton POV) Fire is a language. A lot of people think it destroys and burns everything. But fire speaks. It tells you who is afraid. Who runs. Who comes back screaming. I watched the smoke rise from the coastline through the tinted glass of my car and smiled. Damian Blackwood came running. Of course he did. He always does. The man is literally predictable. “Was the message delivered?” I asked calmly. “Yes, sir,” my man replied from the front seat. “She survived.” Good. Just what I wanted. I wasn’t trying to kill the girl. Not yet anywys. I leaned back, swirling the drink in my hand as memories surfaced—old ones. Bloody ones. Damian Blackwood likes to pretend he’s untouchable. That his empire makes him king. But kings fall the same way everyone else does. Through their heart. And Elena Lawson? She is his.I first heard her name years ago.Thomas Lawson.A foolish man with a soft spine and a daughter he loved more than his own life. He came to me when he was desperate—
