The Intern in a Three-Piece Suit

I didn't sleep at all. I spent the whole night staring at the medical file I found in my trunk. It was a record from the city hospital, dated two years ago. The notes were clear: Patient Silas Vane. Condition: Temporary blindness due to a car accident. Primary Caregiver: Rebecca Vane.

I touched the paper. Silas had always believed Seraphina was the one who held his hand during those dark weeks. He thought she was the one who read him his favorite books and fed him soup when he was too weak to hold a spoon. In reality, Seraphina was in Paris with a fashion photographer. I was the one who slept on a hard plastic chair by his bed. I was the one who made sure he didn't lose hope.

When he finally got his sight back, my mother and Seraphina had pushed me out of the room. They told him Seraphina had just stepped out for a second. He believed the lie. And I, wanting him to be happy, never corrected him.

Now, I looked at my watch. It was 7:55 AM.

I sat behind my massive desk on the top floor of Frost Towers. I was wearing a sharp black blazer and gold jewelry. I looked every bit like the billionaire I was.

At exactly 8:00 AM, my office door swung open.

Silas walked in. He was wearing an expensive suit that probably cost more than most people make in a year. He looked tired, but his eyes were full of a fire I hadn't seen before. He carried a small leather briefcase and stood in front of my desk.

"You're on time," I noted, not looking up from my tablet. "That’s a good start for an intern."

Silas gritted his teeth. I could see a vein pulsing in his neck. "Where do I start, Rebecca?"

"First, call me Ms. Frost," I said. I finally looked up, meeting his gaze. "And second, your briefcase? Leave it at the door. Interns don't carry fancy bags. They carry coffee and files."

Silas hesitated, his fingers tightening on the handle. For a second, I thought he would turn around and walk out. But then he looked out the window at his own building across the street, the one that was currently losing millions of dollars every hour.

He walked back to the door and set the briefcase on the floor.

"Ms. Frost," he said, his voice tight. "What is my first task?"

"I need a latte. Two sugars, extra hot. From the shop three blocks away. The elevator is for executives only, so you'll have to use the stairs."

Silas stared at me. "The stairs? This is the fiftieth floor!"

"Is that a problem, intern?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "I thought you said you would do anything to save your company."

He didn't say another word. He turned and marched out of the office.

I watched him go on my security monitor. He looked so out of place in the stairwell, his polished shoes clicking against the concrete. It was petty, and I knew it. But after three years of being treated like a servant in his home, I wanted him to feel the weight of his own shadow.

An hour later, Silas returned. He was sweating, and his hair was a bit messy. He placed a cup on my desk.

"Your coffee, Ms. Frost," he panted.

I took a sip. It was perfect. "It’s cold. Go get another one."

Silas slammed his hand on the desk. "Rebecca, stop this! We are losing time! My engineers say the system will crash by Friday. Just look at the partnership papers!"

"I don't work with people I can't trust," I stated, leaning back in my chair. "And right now, Silas, you are just a man who broke a contract with his wife because a prettier face walked into the room. Why should I believe you won't break a contract with my company?"

"I never loved her!" Silas suddenly blurted out.

The room went quiet. I felt a sharp pang in my chest.

"Don't lie to me," I whispered. "You divorced me for her. You told me I was nothing compared to her."

Silas stepped closer, his face full of a strange pain. "I thought she was the one who saved me. I thought I owed her my life. I was trying to be an honorable man by choosing the woman who stayed by my side when I was blind."

I felt my heart stop. He was so close to the truth, yet so far. I reached into my desk drawer, my fingers brushing against the medical file. Should I show him? Should I tell him he had been loving a ghost while the real woman was right in front of him?

Before I could decide, my desk phone buzzed. It was my secretary.

"Ms. Frost? There is a woman here named Seraphina. She says she’s your sister, and she’s demanding to see Mr. Vane. She says she has proof that you stole the architect's designs from her."

I looked at Silas. He looked just as shocked as I was.

"Let her in," I said, my voice turning to stone. "It's time we finish this family drama once and for all."

The door burst open. Seraphina marched in, holding a flash drive. She looked at Silas, then at me, and a wicked grin spread across her face.

"Oh, Becky," she laughed. "You thought you could win? I just found the original files on our old home computer. Silas, she didn't build this empire. She stole it from me while I was away!"

Silas looked at the flash drive, then at me. I could see the doubt returning to his eyes.

"Rebecca?" he asked. "Is that true?"

I didn't answer. I just looked at the file on my desk. But then, I noticed something. Seraphina wasn't just holding a flash drive. She was wearing a necklace, a very specific gold locket that had gone missing from my room the night of the accident.

The locket didn't just hold a photo. It held the key to the Vane basement.

"Where did you get that necklace, Seraphina?" I asked, my voice dangerously low.

Seraphina's face went white. She tucked the necklace into her shirt, but it was too late.

Suddenly, the office lights flickered and died. A red warning light began to flash on my computer screen.

Critical System Breach: Vane Industries Server Destroyed.

Silas's phone rang. He answered it, and his face turned gray.

"What do you mean the building is on fire?" he gasped.

I looked at Seraphina. She wasn't scared. She was smiling.

"If I can't have the Vane fortune," she whispered, "nobody can."

The red lights flashed against the office walls. The sound of sirens began to fill the air outside. Silas was staring at his phone, his face completely pale. Everything he had worked for was burning, and my sister was standing there with a smile on her face."You did this," Silas said, his voice shaking. He looked at Seraphina as if he were seeing a monster for the first time. "You set the building on fire?""I did what I had to do, Silas," Seraphina said. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, looking totally calm. "If I can’t be the wife of the richest man in the city, then no one will be. Besides, once your company is gone, you’ll have nothing left but me. We can start over. Away from her."She pointed a finger at me. I stood up from my desk, my heart beating fast. I wasn't just angry anymore; I was done playing games."You really are pathetic, Seraphina," I said. I walked around the desk, ignoring the warning lights. "You think destroying his life will make him love you? You

The grip on my arm was firm, pulling me through the dark service hallway. I tried to pull away, but the person didn't let go until we reached the back alley. The cool night air hit my face, and the sounds of the panic inside the hall became a dull hum.I turned around, ready to strike, but my hand stopped in mid-air."Dad?" I gasped. My father, who was supposed to be in a hospital in another country, stood before me. He looked tired and thinner, but his eyes were sharp. He wasn't the broken man who had begged me to marry Silas to save him from debt."Rebecca, you have to leave. Now," he said. His voice was urgent. "Seraphina isn't just back for Silas. She’s working with people who want to take down Frost Towers. That note you got? It wasn't from her. It was from the person who put me in that hospital.""What are you talking about?" I asked, my mind spinning. "I thought you were recovering. I’ve been paying the bills every month!""The money was intercepted, Rebecca. I escaped two week

The rain splashed against the windows of the sleek black sedan. I sat in the back seat, staring at the divorce papers in my lap. I didn't feel like crying anymore. Instead, I felt a spark of fire in my chest that I hadn't felt in years."Ma'am, we are arriving at the Frost Towers," the driver said.I looked up. The giant glass building stood tall against the city skyline. This was my empire. For three years, I had managed this multi-billion-dollar tech firm through encrypted emails and late-night calls while Silas slept in the next room. He thought I was playing mobile games or shopping online. He had no idea I was the person making the world’s most advanced digital blueprints.I stepped out of the car. My old sneakers hit the pavement, but my head was held high. I walked into the lobby, and the security guards froze. They hadn't seen me in person since I married Silas."Welcome back, CEO Frost," they said in unison, bowing their heads.I ignored them and went straight to the private

  • The Billionaire’s Scorned Bride   The Anniversary Gift

The table was set for two. I had spent five hours in the kitchen, making sure the steak was juicy and the wine was chilled. Today was our third wedding anniversary. For three years, I had been the perfect wife to Silas Vane. I cooked, I cleaned, and I smiled when his mother called me a "useless gold digger."I did it all because I loved him. Even though I was just a "substitute" for my sister, Seraphina, who ran away on their wedding day. I took her place to save my family from debt, but I gave Silas my heart for free. The front door clicked open. Silas walked in, looking as handsome as ever in his dark suit. But his face was cold. He didn’t even look at the candles or the food."You’re home," I said, my heart fluttering. "Happy anniversary, Silas."He didn't say it back. Instead, he tossed a thick envelope onto the table. It landed right in the middle of the mashed potatoes I had worked so hard on."Sign it," he said. His voice was like ice.I opened the envelope. My breath hitched.
