I held the door handle for a moment, unable to comprehend what I had just heard. "What did you say?" I asked her again.

"I didn't tell you because I felt I needed to protect them from you," she said. "Mama..." The little one called out to her, crying.

"Get in," I instructed her. "I'm going to make a phone call. Be right back."

"What phone call?" She asked suspiciously.

I hesitated before responding, "The police, because you are insane."

"What do you mean by that?" she asked.

"You've been back for how long, hmm? Ten months? And all this time, you never thought to tell me they were my kids. How am I supposed to believe you?" I questioned her.

"How am I supposed to tell you, after I was humiliated?" I interrupted.

"Humiliated?" I asked, laughing.

"You were moaning to me on my wedding night, a wedding with your sister. So how were you humiliated?"

With her face flushed, she responded, "And you, drunk? I mean, who doesn't recognize his own wife on his wedding bed? If you don't w
