Chapter Three: Shocking Discovery

Aria clutched her handbag so tightly her fingers ached. The email had felt like a drea.

Congratulations, you’ve been hired. Voss Global. The kind of company she used to whisper about with Mia, back when success was just fantasy.

Now her heels clicked against polished marble floors, each step too loud in the grand lobby.

The receptionist didn’t glance up from her screen. “Name?”

“Aria Hayes.” Her voice came out thin, fragile.

The woman tapped quickly, then gave a polite smile. “Conference Room A. Third floor. You’re expected.”

Aria nodded and forced herself to keep moving. Pretend you belong. Pretend you’re not seconds from throwing up.

The elevator mirrored her back at herself: pale skin, restless hands fussing with her blouse. Last night’s memory threatened to surface—the hotel room, his mouth on hers, the way her body had answered without hesitation. She shoved it down hard. That was a mistake. Reckless. Today is work. A fresh start.

The doors slid open to a glass corridor so sleek it felt hostile. She followed the signs, pushed into Conference Room A, and let out a breath.

Orientation.

Two managers sat at the head of the table, a handful of new hires scattered along the sides. Relief loosened her shoulders. This she could handle.

“Welcome, Miss Hayes,” one of the managers said with a clipped nod. “Take a seat. Mr. Voss will be here shortly.”

Aria froze halfway into her chair. Mr. Voss?

Whispers rose from the others.

“The CEO himself?”

“He never comes to these.”

“This must be big.”

Her palms dampened. She forced herself to sit, folding her hands in her lap. Maybe he’d just shake hands and leave. Maybe….

The door opened.

He stepped inside.

Aria’s breath stilled in her throat.

Broad shoulders. Sharp jaw. Those same piercing eyes. Less than twelve hours ago, that mouth had kissed every inch of her. Now it was set in a firm line, unreadable.

Liam Voss.

Her boss.

He didn’t flinch. Didn’t blink. His gaze swept the room with icy precision, skipping right over her as though she didn’t exist. In a crisp suit, he radiated command, and silence fell instantly.

He spoke about vision, loyalty, ambition. His voice was smooth, steady, so different from the hoarse whispers of last night. Not once did his eyes flick to her.

Aria sat rigid, heat crawling up her neck. Every word pressed down heavier. Could anyone hear her heart hammering? Could they see the panic in her face?

Finally, the orientation ended. He gave a curt nod. “That will be all. Miss Hayes, stay.”

The scrape of her chair was too loud. The others filed out, stealing curious glances at her. The door shut. Silence.

Liam turned.

His eyes locked on hers—cold steel, no trace of the man who had asked if she was sure before kissing her again and again.

Her mouth went dry. “I….”

He closed the distance in three long strides. His presence filled the room. “Not a word,” he said, voice low, lethal.

Aria’s throat tightened. “I didn’t know you were….”

His hand flicked, cutting her off. “I don’t care. Last night never happened. Do you understand?”

Her stomach flipped. “I wasn’t planning to….”

“Good. Because if you do, even once, it will be the end of you here.”

The words sliced through her, sharp and merciless.

She tried to steady her voice. “Do you think I want people to know? I don’t. But you could at least….”

“At least what?” His tone rose, sharp enough to sting. “Pretend it meant something? Don’t be naïve.”

The word stung.

His gaze bore down on her. “This is business. You are my employee. I am your employer. Nothing else.”

Her chest burned. She lifted her chin, refusing to wilt. “You don’t have to humiliate me.”

“Humiliation,” he said coldly, “is what happens when people find out. So keep your mouth shut.”

The finality in his voice twisted her insides.

But she wasn’t the same desperate woman who walked in trembling. She forced steel into her spine. “You don’t need to threaten me. I know how to do my job.”

For a moment, his mask cracked. A flicker—something unreadable, almost regret—flashed in his eyes. Then it vanished. He straightened, pulling the mask tighter.

“Then prove it,” he said. “Starting now.”

He brushed past her, the scent of his cologne lingering, and left the room without looking back.

The door clicked shut.

Aria sagged into the nearest chair, her legs trembling so hard she thought they’d give out. She pressed her hands against her face, dragging in a shaky breath.

Mia’s teasing voice from the night before echoed in her head: If the boss is hot, don’t forget—no fraternizing with the enemy.

Her best friend had no idea how far she’d already fallen into enemy territory.

Aria let her hands fall, staring at the glossy table. Her fresh start had lasted less than a day, and already it was tangled in a secret that could ruin everything.

One night. One mistake.

And Liam Voss wasn’t going to let her forget it.

The silence stretched until Aria thought the walls themselves might crack under the weight of it. Liam sat rigid behind his desk, his expression unreadable, as though her words hadn’t landed at all. Then he leaned back slowly, his eyes narrowing. “Say that again.”Her voice trembled, but she forced the words out. “I’m pregnant.”Something flickered across his face, gone so quickly she almost doubted she saw it. He stood abruptly, pacing to the window. His reflection in the glass looked carved from ice.“No,” he said flatly. “That’s not possible.”Her heart clenched. “You think I’d lie about something like this?”He turned, his jaw tight. “You expect me to believe I’m the father after one night? You barely know me. I barely know you.”Her fingers curled into fists. “I know enough. And you were the only one. There’s no doubt.”He shook his head, the denial sharp, final. “You want me to take responsibility for a mistake we both made? No. I won’t. Whatever this is, it’s not mine. It can n

Mia was waiting on the couch when Aria stumbled in that night, her heels dangling from one hand, her hair pinned with the last traces of effort she’d given before the party. The apartment smelled faintly of popcorn and nail polish remover. Mia muted the television, her eyes narrowing the second she saw her friend’s face.“That bad?”Aria dropped onto the couch with a groan. “Worse.”“Spill.” Mia pulled her legs up, hugging a pillow to her chest like she was bracing for impact.Aria hesitated, chewing on her lip. “He was there. Of course. Looking… perfect.”Mia rolled her eyes. “Naturally. Rich, powerful, broody. Let me guess....he glared at you like you’d stolen the last donut?”“I wish.” Aria swallowed, the words tasting sour. “He wasn’t alone.”Mia’s brows lifted. “Don’t tell me....”“Fiancée.” The word broke from Aria like glass. “She was right there beside him. Beautiful. Elegant. Exactly the kind of woman who belongs on his arm.”Mia’s mouth fell open. “You’re kidding me.”Aria s

The ballroom glittered with chandeliers, every corner polished to perfection. Aria tugged nervously at her dress as she stepped inside. The tenth anniversary of Voss Global was no small event—every executive, partner, and employee had been invited. She’d tried to convince herself all week that she could blend into the crowd, maybe even enjoy it. Tonight was supposed to be about the company, not her personal chaos.“Wow,” Sophie breathed beside her, eyes wide as she scanned the crowd. “This is insane. Do you think we’ll actually see him tonight?”Aria forced a small laugh. “You mean Mr. Voss? He practically owns the place. Of course, he’ll be here.”Sophie elbowed her playfully. “Don’t sound so stiff. Everyone’s dying to see what he’s like outside the office. Imagine if he actually smiles.”Aria’s stomach twisted. She knew what his smile looked like—what it felt like pressed against her lips. She shook the thought away, focusing on the clinking glasses and the hum of conversation aroun

The office was buzzing Monday morning, but Aria felt like she was moving through fog. She kept her head down as she walked past the glass doors of Voss Global, her heart slamming in her chest the moment she spotted Liam’s tall figure by the elevators. He was speaking to one of the directors, his expression hard, detached, and unreadable. Her stomach twisted. She gripped her bag tighter and darted toward her desk, praying he wouldn’t notice her.“Morning, Aria,” Sophie chirped, plopping into the chair beside her. “Rough weekend?”Aria fumbled with her files, forcing a thin smile. “Something like that.”Sophie leaned closer. “You look pale. Are you sick?”“No. Just tired.”Janice from across the aisle joined in. “Tired? You’ve been tired for weeks now. What’s going on? New boyfriend keeping you up?” She grinned, waiting for a reaction.Aria froze, her throat tight. “No, nothing like that. Just… stress.”Sophie tilted her head. “Stress from what? You barely started here.”Aria gave a wea

The box felt heavier than it should. Aria tucked it deeper into her bag as she and Mia walked back from the pharmacy, every step louder than the last. The streets buzzed with weekend life—families with kids, couples hand in hand, music spilling from café doors. Aria barely saw any of it. All she could see was the word on the bag: test.Mia nudged her with an elbow. “Stop looking like you’re carrying contraband. Nobody cares.”Aria hugged the bag closer. “Easy for you to say. I feel like everyone knows.”“No one knows. And if they did, they wouldn’t care. You’re not the first girl in the world to buy one.”Aria shot her a look. “Thanks for the pep talk.”Mia sighed and looped her arm through hers. “Come on. Let’s go home. The longer you stall, the worse it’ll get.”---By the time they reached the apartment, Aria’s stomach was in knots. She tossed her bag onto the counter, pacing the tiny living room.Mia dropped onto the couch and kicked her feet up. “Well? What are you waiting for? C

  • The Billionaire's Secret Bride   Chapter Five: Missed Period

Aria had been staring at the same spreadsheet for twenty minutes, the numbers blurring into meaningless patterns. Her pen tapped against the desk in an uneven rhythm. She kept telling herself it was stress. Just stress. But her stomach coiled tighter every time she counted back the weeks in her head.“Earth to Aria,” Janice said from across the cubicle wall. “You’ve been drilling holes into that screen all morning.”Aria blinked and forced a smile. “Just… going over projections.”Janice peered over the divider. “You look pale. Are you sick?”“No, I’m fine,” Aria said quickly. “Didn’t sleep much, that’s all.”Janice raised a brow, unconvinced, but dropped it when Liam’s office door opened. He stepped out, sharp in a charcoal suit, scanning the floor. Conversations hushed without him asking. Aria straightened automatically, praying he wouldn’t notice her distraction. He didn’t. His gaze swept the room, landed on the board across the wall, then back to his office. Cold. Detached. Yet in
