Chapter 3: Jealousy

A young woman strode into the room.

She was clad in a short bodysuit, snug blue jeans, and a pair of sneakers. Despite the simplicity of her attire, it accentuated her enviable figure flawlessly. The snug fit of her sweatshirt hinted at a toned midsection, while the jeans hugged her legs, highlighting their perfect contour.

Clearly, she was a fitness enthusiast, her long blonde hair tied back in a casual ponytail, radiating youthful vigor.

Her presence left many in awe. Here was a woman who exuded both allure and innocence, blending youthfulness with maturity and poise in a remarkable manner. How could one person encapsulate such a diverse range of qualities?

Yet, amidst a gathering where opulence and sophistication reigned, her attire seemed out of place, albeit extraordinary.

Nevertheless, her natural beauty shone through, capturing the attention of several onlookers, particularly the young men who couldn't help but be drawn to her.

"Who is she?"

"What's her name?"

"I've never seen someone so captivating."

"I think I'm smitten."

As she drew nearer, everyone got a better look at her face, only to be further mesmerized by her beauty.

While there were many beautiful women in attendance, few could evoke the same sense of admiration. She stood out effortlessly amidst the crowd, a dazzling presence untouched by the rustic charm often associated with rural origins.

Moreover, there was an air of aloofness about her, suggesting she was not one to seek validation from others.

With a single glance, Bella Elijah recognized her as Kourtney Elijah.

Though she had never met Kourtney in person, Bella had seen her photos, and the reality far exceeded her expectations, stirring a twinge of jealousy.

Observing the reactions of the other guests, especially the admiring gazes of the young men, Bella struggled to contain her envy. How had Kourtney managed to captivate so many hearts in such a short time?

Wasn't Kourtney supposed to be confined to the hotel at this hour? How had she ended up here?

Bella's heart sank as she realized her plans might have unraveled. Fear gripped her at the thought of being implicated in any mishap.

Yet, Bella was a consummate actress. She greeted Kourtney warmly and clasped her hand affectionately.

"Oh, my dear sister, you're finally here! Grandpa and everyone else were worried sick! I was fretting too. Where have you been, and why the sudden arrival?"

Kourtney longed to shake off Bella's grasp, but Bella held on tightly. "You're such a troublemaker, sis. If you wanted to go out, I could have accompanied you tomorrow. But today is Grandpa's birthday dinner, and you should have arrived earlier. Your tardiness has kept everyone waiting. The dinner hasn't even commenced yet, much to the chagrin of our esteemed guests. But now, at least one person is delighted. Come with me to see Grandpa!"

As Bella spoke, murmurs of disapproval rippled through the gathering, casting Kourtney in a negative light.

"While Miss Kourtney is undeniably attractive and well-mannered, her behavior leaves much to be desired."

"I fail to comprehend why Old Mr. Elijah would vouch for her."

"This is quite the spectacle. Bella is playing her part well, and she seems rather pleased. It seems her sister won't be having an enjoyable evening."

Kourtney attempted to convey her desire for Bella to release her hand through subtle gestures, but to no avail.

"Bella Elijah? Please release my hand," Kourtney Elijah interjected, her tone chilly, prompting Bella to let go, startled.

"Very well."

Before Bella could process Kourtney's cryptic response, she felt a stinging sensation on her cheek as Kourtney's hand connected with her face twice, eliciting gasps from the onlookers.

"What do you think you're doing?" Bella's mother, Mrs. Cassie, rushed over indignantly, embracing Bella. "Kourtney Elijah, you've just returned, and you're already causing trouble for your sister?"

Such behavior was incomprehensible to most of the upper-class attendees, who exchanged quizzical glances.

"I simply don't care for her," Miss Kourtney retorted, her demeanor haughty, further fueling the collective disapproval.

Bella bit her lip, her eyes welling up with tears. "Sister, what have I done wrong? Why are you treating me like this?"

Jonny Elijah's expression darkened. "You! Apologize to your sister this instant!"

Kourtney met her father's gaze impassively, unfazed by the impending confrontation.

"Enough!" an elderly voice rang out. "Kourtney Elijah is my granddaughter, and I won't tolerate anyone raising a hand against her."

Jonny Elijah turned to his father, Old Mr. Elijah, who was being assisted by his aides, forcing himself to compose.

"Dad, do you know what she's just done?"

Old Mr. Elijah grimaced. "I don't care. She's your daughter, and it's been far too long since you last saw her. Are you really considering striking her?"

Cassie seethed at Old Mr. Elijah's protective stance toward his granddaughter, without even questioning her actions. It was utterly unjust.

The household staff intervened, reminding the family of the importance of Old Mr. Elijah's 60th birthday celebration, urging them to maintain composure.

Jonny Elijah fixed his eldest daughter with a stern glare. "This isn't over."

As Bella departed with Cassie, she cast a glance in Kourtney's direction, her hand touching her reddened cheek as tears streamed down her face. "You'll pay for this, Kourtney."

"Proceed with the original plan. This time, it must succeed. If it fails again, you won't return. I'll ensure you and your family leave this city forever," Bella declared, dialing a number and speaking into her phone.

"Yes."

I’m sorry, but is proofreading reading not required at all in any platforms/app such as this one?? Oh my gosh, the story would’ve been great if my head isn’t hurting from all the grammatical errors.. some can be overlooked but most are awful where the sentence doesn’t even make sense…
