“Ms Pierce, I'm sorry but Emily and Harrison eloped last night”

My heart sank as a guest whispered the devastating truth in my ear with a look of pity on her face.

I had spent months planning every detail of our wedding from the intricate lace on my gown to the delicate flowers on the tables. I was excited to finally start my life with the man who I had loved all my life, the man I thought I knew better than anyone else.

But as the minute ticked by, I realized something was wrong. There was no sign of Harrison. I felt a sense of unease but I waved it aside thinking he was just running late.

When I finally learnt the truth, my heart raced in confusion and disbelief swirled through me. I could barely process what had just been said to me.

Harrison_ the man that was supposed to be my husband had left me at the altar and is set to marry my step-sister.

It was like a punch to the gut, a harsh reminder that, I, Avery Pierce wasn't good enough. The pain and humiliation were overwhelming. I was left standing alone at the altar. My dreams of a perfect wedding and life were shattered.

The days that followed were a blur of tears and heartbreak. I struggled to come to terms with what had just happened. The betrayal was just too much for me to handle. I had trusted Harrison with everything, and he had it all thrown away.

The news of my humiliation spread like wildfire and I became the subject of social media gossip. People couldn't get enough of the juicy story and my name was on everybody's lips

“ Bride abandoned on the altar for her own step-sister”

“The beautiful bride and her wedding day disaster”

“She's so stupid for not knowing her fiancee was cheating in her”

The comments were hurtful, but what hurt more was the realization that I had been blind to Harrison's true nature. When I think about it now, the realization that I was so invested in the relationship and ignored the signs that something was off. He became distant and emotionally unavailable and I kept hoping things could get better.

I thought I knew him but it turns out… Harrison was a f*cking a*shole

          “f*uck! I feel so stupid”

I muttered to myself while grabbing the pillow in a bid to suffocate myself.

Vivian, my step-mother. The woman who had brought chaos and drama into my life. She was my mother's best friend. I remembered the day she married my father, how she had swept into our lives with her charm and beauty. But beneath her polished exterior, she was manipulative and controlling, always getting what she wanted no matter the cost. When my father died, she took over his properties and vast empires without giving me access to any. And then, there was emily her daughter, my step-sister. Both of them were like two peas in a pod, always scheming and plotting.

As I thought about vivan, emily and harrison, I felt a surge of anger and resentment. I felt the need to revenge, the need to stand up for myself and get back all that was taken from me,the need to prove to everyone that I was worth more than just a jilted bride.

“Please dear, you need to eat something” Ma Janet said.

I looked up at Ma Janet, the kind maid who had been with my family for years. She was standing in the doorway with a concerned expression on her face.

“I don't have much of an appetite, Ma Janet,” I said while trying to smile weakly.

Ma Janet came over to me and put a gentle hand on my shoulder.

“You've been through a lot, child. You need to keep your strength up. Let me  make you some soup”

I nodded, feeling a lump form in my throat. Ma Janet had always been like a mother to me. I lost my mother in a car accident at a very tender age.

I took a deep breath and tried to shake off the feeling of despair that had been weighing me down.

Ma janet came back with a steaming bowl of soup, and the aroma wafted up to me making my stomach growl slightly. I took a tentative spoonful, and the warm liquid slid down my throat, comforting me.

“Thank you, ma Janet,” I said, smiling slightly

She smiled back and patted my hand.

“You're welcome, dear. Now eat up and try to feel a little better” she said as she exited the room.

“I hereby pronounce the two of you husband and wife. You may now kiss your bride”The crowd cheered as the couple kissed. They leaned towards each other and the crowd erupted. Ethan pulled me closer as we witnessed the emotional moment. The bouquet toss began and with a gleam of mischief, Ma Jane twirled, then called out“Here it comes” the bouquet circled through the air, then landed softly in my hands.I froze, surprised, realizing I was not the intended person for a moment like this. I was married and do not intend getting married again. But it still felt magical having to hold a bouquet in my hand.*You know, we never really had a celebration in our wedding” I said as I snuggled up to Ethan.“No big gathering, no real toast to us as couple” “Yeah” he answered.“I had to rush things. I was afraid he might come back for you” he said, in a mischievous tone.“Well.. the fear didn't vanish with the wedding” I teased.“I want us to celebrate our wedding. I want a real celebration”“Ok

Dads wedding with Ma Jane arrived sooner than expected. I and Catherine were in the dressing room making sure she looked perfect.“You know I've always loved weddings” Catherine began, interrupting the silence in the room. “It's just too bad I never got to attend Avery and Ethan's wedding”“Mom, come on.. it was a very private wedding” I blurted out“I know my son is buoyant enough to organize a world class wedding. I wonder why you both choose a private courthouse wedding”I smiled, thinking back at the circumstances surrounding our wedding at that time.“There's just something intriguing about two people saying yes to each other” she said, with a bright smile.“And you know what?” She continued."In my own time, I basically looked forward to my wedding night.”“Wow!” Ma Jane exclaimed in discomfort.“Yes dear. Ethan's father and I kept ourselves till our wedding night. We were both so young” she paused, letting the memory settle in the air.“It was just so memorable. You'd soon g

Ethan paused, processing her words“I get what you're saying, but what if he is the one we saw earlier today”Catherine shook her head dismissing the idea with a wave of her hand.“No, I refuse to believe that. Jenkins has always been straight forward with me. He took the job because he wanted it and he's never hinted at wanting anything more. It just doesn't add up”I watched the exchange, feeling the tension between them. Ethan considered her words“You make a valid point mom” he finally said“But if there's a chance he is involved in something more complicated shouldn't we investigate?” “Ethan, Jenkins took good care of you. Don't he ungrateful’’ Catherine scolded“You know sometimes, people are exactly who they place themselves to be. Jenkins has always been a loyal friend and employee. I don't think we should jump into conclusion based on passing resemblance or a hunch”Ethan sighed in relief.“You're right mom. Maybe it was just a striking resemblance” “Exactly bro, Jenkins c

Ethan and I made our way downstairs as the familiar sounds of laughter and chatter grew louder, drawing us towards the living room. We found Catherine and Lucas sprawled comfortably on the couch, with their attention focused on the television screen. Catherine looked completely unbothered, Same as Lucas.“Hey you two. Come join us. You're just in time for the best part” Lucas said, waving us over.I exchanged glances at Ethan as a smile broke across my face“What are we watching” I asked“Just the usual drama” Catherine replied with a light tone.Ethan chuckled, shaking his head as he settled down on the couch beside Catherine.“Mom, I can't believe you're still into this stuff,” he teased with a playful grin on his face.“Hey, Ethan it's just pure entertainment” she shot back“Besides, it's nice to watch other people's chaos instead of dealing with our own for a while” she fired again.“I also love watching them too,” Lucas added, raising his hand with a smile plastered on his face

As we drove back home, the car was filled with the soothing sounds of music, a playlist that Ethan had curated just for me.He had one hand on the wheel while his other hand intertwined with mine. We had escorts trailing behind us, but it felt like we were alone.“Let's make a quick stop here, mom asked us to get something for her,” Ethan said, glancing at me with a smile.“Okay,” I repliedEthan pulled over at the parking lot of the supermarket and came down to open the door for me.Ethan stepped out of the vehicle and wrapped his hand protectively around me while he walked. Just a few steps away, I saw a convoy of sleek black SUVs lined up, the security personnel clad in Black suits moved with purpose, their eyes scanned the area as they prepared to escort someone out.Ethan squinted, tightening his grip around me as we observed slightly. Just then a man emerged from the store, flanked by a small army of security guards. He walked with so much confidence as if he owned the ground be

“Hey Avery, just in time. Emily was just telling me a light joke” Racheal said, smiling from ear to ear.“Yeah. You should join us sister, "Emily added.“Sister,” I muttered to myself.“Racheal was just telling me about the time you accidentally sent an email to the entire company instead of your team members. That was classic”Maybe, due to my past with Emily, but I don't feel comfortable having her here. Maybe I should just speak to Ethan to take her to the Harrison group but who knows the damage she might cause there. She has not done anything worth firing her. So I guess I'd just keep observing from a distance.I quietly sat close to Racheal listening to the content of their joke.“Emily has been sharing some of her adventures since starting here. She's already making quite an impression”Emily looked a bit shy at the compliment but regained her confidence.“Well.. I am just trying to find my footing. Everyone here has been so welcoming and it's nice to have someone like Racheal
