Amelia wanted nothing more but to spill the secret right here and now, she wanted Evelyn to know that she was her daughter in law– wanted her to know that she met her as a little girl and was close friends with Ferdinand.

She remained silent and smiled, “She’s out on business. My son doesn’t like me talking about his wife”.

“Does he love her?”, the second question blurted out of Evelyn’s mouth which she regretted again, “I’m sorry I….i shouldn’t be asking you that”.

Amelia chuckled, “it’s alright dear”, she pursed her lips, “what about you? Are you married??”

At this moment Evelyn had two options–lie and get on with it or tell the truth about her contract marriage with a nonexistent husband who didn’t care about her.

“It’s complicated”. She retorted

“Complicated as you’re not married or getting a divorce?”

“Just complicated”, Evelyn smiled, “Marriage is a tough job”.

“It isn’t if you both love each other”, Amelia urged her to take a seat, “You see marriage is like a flower and you have to give it all it needs– water, air, ….it will blossom into the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen. Ignore it and it’ll wilt”.

Evelyn frowned deeply, “So you’re saying….”

“I’m saying you should try to make it work with him whoever he may be”. Amelia muttered as she placed a hand over Evelyn’s.

“What if he doesn’t want to make it work?”

“Well you don’t know that for sure do you?”

At this moment Evelyn felt like she’d known this woman all her life, for the first time she felt a motherly interaction with someone she’d known for only half an hour–it was warming to witness and she nodded.

“This is my cue to leave I guess”. she said as she rose to her feet.

Amelia also got up, “it’s kind of late dear….are you sure you don’t want to stay over? I can have the driver send you home in the morning”

“That’ll be the end of me”, Evelyn snorted loudly, “Your son will kill me if he finds out you harbored me in his home”.

“Well it’s my home too. He doesn’t have a say”, Amelia chuckled softly, “I really do like you Evelyn”.

“The feeling is mutual Mrs Dolan”. Evelyn replied, “But I actually do have to leave”.

Amelia understood immediately and nodded, “I have this party this weekend…my birthday actually. I’d love for you to be there”.

This was new and took Evelyn aback as her eyes widened sharply, she gulped hard but still managed to force a grin nonetheless and nodded, “I’ll try my best to be there Mrs–“

“Please call me Amelia”, she cut her off, “we’re friends now”.

Evelyn nodded nervously and found her way out the door. Finally she let out a sigh of relief and clutched onto her blouse, that was the most terrifying and yet heartwarming interaction she’d ever had and as amusing as it sounded– she loved her boss’s mother.

Amelia was just a ray of sunshine and was sure to fill a gloomy atmosphere with bright and beautiful rainbows, thinking of it alone made Evelyn smile and she couldn’t help but wonder if Aiden’s mother would be the same. She barely knew anything about him talk less of the Pearce family, all she knew was that he was ostracized from the immediate part of the family….hence the marriage contract.

She waved a cab and got in immediately only to get a sudden text from an unknown number which contained the address of a hotel and a time frame, Evelyn smiled knowing who it was from immediately and then frowned deeply–how in the world did Amelia get her number??.

Aiden woke up the next morning with a throbbing headache, he winced loudly as he managed to sit upright and frowned deeply as he finally realized–this was his room, in his home and he was on his bed.

The last thing he remembered was him downing too many vodka shots all to get some steam off him and then blacking out. Raking his hands through his hair he glanced to the side and his shoes were placed carefully on the side of the bed, he no longer had his shirt on and then there was vomit on the floor.

His nose twitched, it smelled awful, he smelled awful. Seconds later his mother barged in with a tray of breakfast which she placed gently on the side of his bed, he frowned.

“What is going on??”

“You were drunk last night”

“I know that”

“Ohh you do”

“Come on Mom”, he groaned softly, “ I just needed to let off some steam that’s all”.

“You deceived me”

“I’ll make it up to you”, he smiled, “What if I get you that Chevy you’ve always wanted?”.

Amelia rolled her eyes, “I don’t accept bribes. Eat up, you’re late for work”.

She turned to leave and he asked, “Did I drive myself home last night?”.

“No”, she replied “Your wife did”.

  • The Billionaire’s lost wife    Chapter five

Chapter five It was a long meeting and Damien needed to be anywhere but here. He hated the merge between the Castillo family and their rival, upholstering the thieves and corrupt beings from his wife’s family who joined the board of directors. They bore him. Looking down at his watch he realized how long the day was, pathetic, he thought as he made a disgruntled sound to signal his uneasiness and thirst to go home. The director spotted the grimace on his face and pressed his lips, “Well….i guess this meeting is adjourned till further notice.” Finally, he rose and left the room immediately as he wanted nothing more but the solace of his own company. He sighed deeply and strode into his office when his grimace morphed into a deep scowl. “What are you doing here??” Evangeline, fast asleep on the couch sprang to her feet, wiping off the trickle of sweat on her cheek with her sleeve, “You’re here.” “Yes I’m here,” he answered stoutly with his annoyance increasing by the minute,

  • The Billionaire’s lost wife    Chapter four

Chapter four Beatrice Castillo was a scary looking woman. She was blonde unlike her son, thin framed and borderline anorexic with high defined cheekbones and a permanent scowl on her face. Evangeline dreaded meeting her mother in law, she wasn’t the mean spirited woman holding onto a cliche archetype, neither was she welcoming herself. In a frantic bid to not keep her mother-in-law waiting she slipped into a simple green blouse and dark slacks. The Castillo family took pride in their outwardly appearance which reeked of nothing but pure elegance and simplicity, she was their daughter-in-law and needed to uphold this tradition. Her mother-in-law was at the dining hall, seated on the chair only reserved for Damien with him by her side. Evangeline nodded in silence to acknowledge her presence and sat next to her husband, she felt an increasingly amount of negative tension oozing from every part of his body but she would also love nothing more than to keep her distance from

  • The Billionaire’s lost wife    Chapter three

Chapter three “What is it?’. Evangeline asked as her curiosity heightened. Damien paused for a moment before opening his mouth to speak, “I have decided to move out indefinitely”. She froze, surely his words were just a fib or a tool to torture her and certainly not true. He didn’t look amused, she noticed, no signs of foul play either- this wasn’t some lie. He was actually moving out! “Wh- I don’t…I don’t understand.” She stuttered trying to grasp a hold of her doomed reality. Damien’s brows furrowed deeply as he poured himself a glass of wine, he was calm and unfazed…she was on the verge of going berserk as this was just too much to bear. First she hadn’t seen him in months, then he interrupts her walk by his sudden appearance only to let her know that he was moving out again?? “What is there to understand? I’ve made a decision and my decision is fin- “But we’re married!!” She finally snapped as she slammed both hands on the glass table, “we had been

  • The Billionaire’s lost wife    Chapter two

Chapter two Evangeline rushed out of the cab as soon as she reached the gates of the Castillo mansion, her home which was gifted to both her and Damien right after the wedding. It was a truly enchanting house which stood tall against the backdrop of a beautiful lush garden, the architecture was also stunning with elegant columns framing the entrance, and a charming balcony on the second floor- still she dreaded the innermost parts of it. “When did he get here?”. She asked a guard standing right at the entrance in a frantic manner, a triple of nervous sweat streamed down her cheek which she brushed off immediately with a napkin. “An hour ago ma’am”. He responded. An hour wasn’t good, she thought, she almost winced as she managed to escape hitting the door in an exasperated attempt to get to the dining hall before any more time was wasted. a faint gasp left her as she finally reached and her eyes fell on the man she was married to. He’d gotten more buffer than

  • The Billionaire’s lost wife    Chapter one

Chapter one Prologue The church was sparse of guests, barely any family members. She gulped hard as she walked down the aisle with nothing but a simple silk dress from her mother’s wardrobe- she loathed how slightly discomforting it was, being as she was a tall woman and her mother being on the more petite side which left the seams hanging on for their dear lives. There was no one at the altar except a bedraggled looking priest who clearly wanted to be anywhere but here, she gulped hard and turned to her father by her side- nervous but still managing to keep a plastered smile on his face. “Where is he?”. “Smile Eva. You don’t want do look sad on this auspicious day do you?”. Her lips pursed slightly at his response, here she was almost reaching the altar and still no groom to be wedded to. It was tradition for her to be late, especially to a wedding she certainly didn’t agree to. So much for an auspicious day. Where was he? He wasn’t coming, she thought. He wasn’t coming
