Chapter 6

The next day, I woke up late, feeling groggy and disoriented. I had slept in, and by the time I got out of bed, April had already left for school, thinking I was taking a sick day off. I rushed through my morning routine, taking a quick shower, brushing my teeth, and throwing on a random dress. I barely had time to grab my backpack before hurrying out the door to catch the last bus.

I arrived at school just in time for the second period, my heart racing from the rush.

My heart raced as I slipped through the school's entrance undetected, surprisingly.

The morning sun had just begun to cast its warm glow on the deserted hallways, and I couldn't believe my luck. No security guard, no vigilant teacher, no nosy schoolmate, nothing – just sheer luck. My target: the second-period biology class.

Last night April brought up the conversation again and asked what was bothering me but I couldn't bring myself to talk about it so she gave me the usual I'm here for you speech.
