The Billionaire's pride

Thunderstorms were rare in this part of the country. Most especially the country side but somehow, today was different. Along the narrow dirty road, a male figure could be seen dragging himself while searching wildly for a place of safety. He appeared injured and rough, like an untamed wounded beast. Suddenly, to make it worse, the heavens cried at his helplessness soaking him to the bones. The road suddenly became slippery and it was difficult to tread on. He moved towards the direction of the local market. The stall owners were trying to arrange their goods to avoid the rain from spilling on it.

" Where is he?" A faint voice behind said.

" I can't even find his shadow, it's like he disappeared into thin air." Another voice said. Series of foot steps moved towards his direction searching the local market as well as destroying the goods of the commoners. He moved desperately in search of a hidden shelter but found none. The loud angry voices of aggravated stall owners and the sound of the rain blurred his scream of pain as he fell. He looked behind him and saw that he was a bit far from the market and layed on his back looking towards the heavens. If God was to Grant him any wish, now would be the time. He didn't want to die, not yet. He needed to sniff out those backstabbers and take them to hell himself. This couldn't be the end! He let out a little sob. It was difficult to tell his tears with that of the rain drops on his face. He closed his eyes in agony and silently prayed. Almost immediately, a feminine voice sounded from afar, it seemed like she was being chased. He opened his eyes and saw a flash of a figure running passed him. All of a sudden, the figure stopped. It seemed like she was making a decision. She ran back to him, placed her hands on the pulses besides his neck and sighed. Her cold fingers moved below his neck and before he could think, he was already on her back. He bit the inside of his lips in shock and shame and pretend to be dead for the meantime. Maybe she was his miracle.

Anita couldn't believe she brought a half dead man into her home. She knew if she was a second late, she would have been caught. She pulled off her wet black leather jacket and emptied the things she stole on the table by the corner. She discarded the jacket on the wooden chair that could barely carry anything and paused to look at the man on her bed. She look up and closed her eyes, cursing herself for always helping others even in worse situations. She barely had two square meals and now she had to share it with a stranger. Arggg!

"Good riddance!" She spat and walked into the bathroom to get a towel and a basin. She careful walking towards him and placed her left palm on his forehead, placing her right on hers. He was running fever. Anita soaked the towel in water and squeezed the excess water from it while placing it on his forehead. she went ahead and took off his wet clothes, trying harder not to look in the wrong direction.

"Anita get a hold of yourself" she scolded and bit her lips." It's not the first time your doing this. Think of him as one of your patient girl!!" She brought over her tool box and took out the bullet from his arm and stitching up his wounds.

"I wonder what happened to you. Humans can he so brutal". Anita looked at the knife wounds across his body and shivered." If I had not taken you back, you would have bled to death." She walked towards the table, took out an old note book and scribbled the situation of his health as well as the drugs she needed to get. She sighed in frustration and picked up the money she stole.

"Arrrhhhgggg! 95$?? Are rich people poor this days?" she recently picked interested in pickpocketing but today wasn't just her day. She reluctantly took the money and walked out of the apartment with a dull look. It was past midnight and the only pharmacy opened by this time was the Underground health center. She used to work for them sometimes especially during the weekends or if they needed extra hands, so it was easy to fetch drugs here. Just as she walked past the alley, she met with a group of familiar thugs. "Not today please" she voiced in her heart.

"Ah! If it isn't our very own Female Gangstar leader," A rough goofy goober hyped while playing with cigarettes buts. The snarky smile on his face made her hands itch to punch him. The other gang members laughed loquaciously, earning a threatening glare from her. "Who is it going to be next? Shreads is yet to recover from your beatings you know." a one eyed mad covered in tatts voiced. "You broke a rib!" Another drunk member added, earning another round of laughter.

"Buffoons!" Anita commented and walked past them.

"What did you say?" A clean young man asked and got to his feet.

"You heard me." Anita turned towards him, checking him out. He didn't seem to fit into the picture. " Are you daft?"

"No!" He answered calmly and walked up to her. "Marcus"

"What?" She said in disbelief.

"I guess you're the one who's daft" he smirked. The gang members laughed once more. But this time, it was dramatic.

"Did you see her face? Hahahah!" The Goofy Goober spat between his laugh.

"It's the first time I've seen her speechless" A skinny man responded trying so hard to keep himself from falling off.

"I'm Marcus" the clean guy stretched out his arm.

"Good to know" Anita replied and walked past him, into the pharmacy.

"Brooooo! That was rude." The goofy guy walked up to Marcus and threw an arm around his shoulder. " She definitely doesn't know who you are, hahaha...ha ha *cough *cough I'm sorry sir" He bowed his head and stood with respect. Likewise the other members. With how serious the goofy man looked, it was hard to tell if he was the same person or if he had multiple personality.

"I want every information about her" Marcus ordered and walked into the dark alley.

"Yes sir!!" They all responded and disappeared.
