Chapter 1

“Thompson, I’m very disappointed in you “. The over all head of the agency, Chief, shook his head sitting behind his desk. “I held you in high regard “.

“Sir, please, I did nothing with her”. Wilder said trying to defend himself. “She was the one who came on to me, I’m telling the truth “.

But of course, his boss would not believe what he was saying.

“She is the daughter of Mr. Stiles, one of the most reputable businessman. She filed a report saying you tried to make a move on her. Do you know high this allegation she made against you is ?”.

Wilder looked around nervously not knowing how to explain the situation. “Sir, I would never put at my job at risk just to pursue a fling with her. I don’t pay attention to distractions, you know that “.

The Chief sighed. “Thompson. You are one of our best security guard that we’ve trained “.

“Then believe me, Sir. I didn’t do nothing, please don’t take away my job “.

“Thompson, calm down. Your job won’t be taken away from you although you won’t be guarding her father any longer. But she filed a report against you, so that’s a red stain on your credentials which unfortunately will be there and cannot be changed “.

Wilder groaned knowing the implication of having a red mark on his credentials.

Which means if he had to take up being a bodyguard for another person, it will be hard to do so considering now he has a file of sexual harassment against him.

“So am I fired ?”. He asked fearing the answer to that question.

Chief sighed not missing the hurt look on the younger man’s face. “Fired from being Mr. Stiles’s bodyguard, yes. Fired from our agency, no “.

“Then what does this mean ?”. Wilder muttered.

“Unfortunately your job of being a close protection officer is being taken away from you. Now you’ll be reduced to a level of mere bodyguard “.

“My tank is being reduced ?”.

“Thompson, think of it more like, a big baggage being loaded off you. Now you’ll have more rest and less things to worry about “.

Wilder groaned knowing it wasn’t like that.

His rank was being reduced, the rank he worked so hard for was taken away all because of a false allegation against him.

“I’m a mere bodyguard to who now?”. He asked wanting to know his next client.

“Well .. “. The Chief trailed off searching through papers and files. “Yesterday, I got a call from one of our partners, a certain entertainment company that one of their artistes needed a new bodyguard, apparently, the singer in question got hassled by a crowd. Three of our bodyguards were working there already but one got fired due to his incompetence so now they need another bodyguard to fill up his place. So now that you are here ....”.

“So I’ll be reduced to the position of a celebrity’s bodyguard?”. Wilder scoffed interrupting the Chief not believing the misfortune that was befalling him.

“Yes, I’m sorry, Thomson but that’s it”.

Wilder sighed. “Who’s this celebrity that I might assigned to ? Shouldn’t I know ?”.

“Well his stage name is Malik but the thing is we are not sure if you will be his bodyguard already because his manager hasn’t seen your credentials yet so tomorrow you might go over there to give him so he might take a review of it. Whatever he says goes “. Chief informed him.

“What if I get hired ?”.

“Then your role in protecting him is to ask the photographers to maintain their distance and block the path of aggressive cameramen whenever he’s having a fan signing event, or heading to a concert, basically anywhere he goes. So that’s just it. Be there in their company tomorrow morning to speak to the manager in person. But other that, I have no information to give to you so you can leave “.

Wilder nodded before leaving the office as he groaned letting all his frustration out.

Although the Chief was lenient by not firing him immediately, He didn’t expect to lose his rank this way.

All because a delusional girl wanted to have her way with her father’s bodyguard.

He was fine, yeah. But he certainly didn’t expect the business man daughter to fall for him.

But it seemed like being 5 ft 9, with black hair and dark brown colored eyes, having broad shoulders, knowing how to handle weapons was what girls these days needed to fall in love.

“Wilder ? Is that you at the door?”. His mother’s voice rang out as he stepped into the sitting room.

“Yes, mum “. Wilder replied closing the door shut heading over to the kitchen and saw his mum there.

“Why are you back so early ?”. She asked looking at her son noticing the expression he had on his face. “What happened? Did something go wrong ?”.

“I got fired “. His eyes tested up but he tried blinking them away.

She gasped. “What ? Why ? What did you do ?”.

“I didn’t do anything, Mr Stiles just had to fire him because of his bitch of a daughter, she ruined me, saying all sorts of lies that I had made a move on her, that I attempted to harass her sexually, my Chief didn’t believe I was innocent and he reduced the rank I worked so hard to get “.

Wilder paused from the ranting to catch his breath as he wiped the tears running down his cheeks.

“So what happened? “. His mother asked softly.

“Now, now I may be probably assigned to guard an artiste. That’s such a downgrade, mum. I used to guard governors, businessmen, CEOs. Now my rank is being reduced “.

“My poor baby “.

She walked towards her son and gave him a hug while whispering kind words to him.

Her soothing words calmed him down a little bit as he stayed silent for a couple of seconds.

“So who’s this artiste you are supposed to guard ?”.

“I don’t know, I think it was mentioned to me that his name was Malik “. Wilder mumbled still hugging his mother.

Meanwhile, his mother gasped pushing him away. “You are going to be the body guard for Malik of M-Square ?”.

“What’s M-Square ?”.

“My favorite duo. How can you call Malik a mere artiste ?”.

Wilder winced as his mum hit him. “Ouch! Mum. I don’t even know who he is. That’s why I said that “.

“How can you not know who is ? I play he and his brother’s music all the time “.

“I usually shut your music out “. Wilder admitted before furrowing his eyebrows about what she said. “He has a brother ?”.

“Yes. His name is Malik, he sings and he’s in a famous duo with his twin brother called Miles although they kind of look alike very much, they can be told apart by their different tattoos and also personalities”.

“I seriously don’t know who they are “. Wilder said causing his mother to gasp.

“Shoo, move away”.

He laughed as he left the kitchen heading towards his room while bringing out his phone going straight to the search engine wanting to find out who were M-Square.
