Chapter Eighteen.

I didn’t turn around. I just sat there, frozen in my seat, praying that my mind was playing tricks on me. But to my horror, the person I least wanted to see walked right to my front and sat down on the empty chair opposite me.

I spoke too soon. In this world, can I ever have a single moment of peace?

A smile crept onto her face—that shameful, wicked smile. She hadn’t changed much in ten years. Her dark hair still framed that cruel face, and her sharp brown eyes still held the same venom that used to haunt me in high school.

“What? You don’t want to see me again?” she asked, that sneer in her voice impossible to ignore. “Let me remind you who came charging to my house as soon as they got released.”

Her tone was mocking, triumphant.

“What do you want, Serena?” I asked, my voice firm, thankfully. She was the last person in this world I ever wanted to run into.

She tilted her head, feigning surprise. “Ooh, you’re bold now,” she said with a slow smirk. “I guess losing you

  • The Billionare's Wife   a small accident.

Chapter TwentyThat night, after finishing dinner, the house was quiet. The clock on the wall ticked softly, the only sound echoing through the dining hall. It was already past ten, yet I sat by the table, waiting patiently for Theodore to come back.I wanted to thank him properly, not just for the black card, but for everything he’d unknowingly done for me. I also wanted to return the card to him, I didn’t feel right keeping something so valuable. But as the minutes dragged by, my eyelids began to grow heavy. Gosh, why does he come home so late every night? The man practically lived at the company. My chin rested in my palm, and before I knew it, I was half-asleep at the table. Then, click. The sound of the door unlocking startled me awake. My heart skipped a beat. He was finally home.He stepped inside, tall and composed as always, dressed in his usual dark suit. Without sparing me a glance, he went about his routine: removing his shoes neatly by the door, slipping into his comforta

  • The Billionare's Wife   New plan.

Chapter NineteenLayla As I quietly ate my leftover doughnut and walked down the street, my thoughts drifted back to what Serena had said. For the first time, I felt oddly thankful for being married to Theodore. How lucky was I to have a billionaire husband, even if our relationship wasn’t perfect? The look on her face, Serena’s shocked, bitter expression when she realized I was no longer the shabby beggar she wanted me to be, was priceless. I could still see her eyes narrowing, her fake smile trembling as she searched for a way to drag me down again. She couldn’t stand seeing me clean, dressed neatly, and living well. So, of course, she brought up the debt.I sighed, brushing away the crumbs on my hand. How did we even get here? One moment we were like sisters, inseparable and the next, she had turned into my sworn enemy. Was I cursed to always end up alone? As I walked, lost in thought, a voice inside me snapped sharply: "Layla, get a grip. You’re one step closer to achieving your

  • The Billionare's Wife   Wise words.

Chapter SeventeenI woke up unusually early the next morning, and for the first time in a long while, I was in a genuinely good mood. Maybe it was because of what happened last night, the way Theodore had spoken to me, the unexpected warmth in his words. I wasn’t sure, but whatever it was, I wanted to hold onto this feeling for as long as I could. After a refreshing shower, I got dressed and headed downstairs to tidy up the living room. Theodore had cleaners who came by regularly, so I only handled light chores—sweeping, arranging the cushions, or polishing the glass table. It wasn’t much, but it made me feel useful, like I was doing something meaningful around the house.Lately, I’d been making very simple breakfasts, and I had a feeling the girls were getting tired of it. “Alright,” I muttered to myself, picking up my phone. “Let’s try something new today.”I opened YouTube and began scrolling through cooking tutorials. There were so many options—pancakes, omelettes, French toast,

  • The Billionare's Wife   My responsibility.

Chapter Sixteen“How long are you going to keep working at a restaurant a secret?” he asked.I froze on the spot, my heart skipping a beat as his words sank in. My eyes widened in shock. Dear Gods, I’m screwed. How did he find out?I wanted to say something, but my voice got trapped in my throat. My lips parted, but nothing came out. My mind went completely blank, as though every excuse I could think of had suddenly vanished. I hadn’t even been working at the restaurant for that long, why did he have to find out now, of all times? He took off his jacket and sat down on the couch, his legs crossed, his hands resting lazily on the armrests. Though his gaze wasn’t fixed directly on me, I could feel the weight of his presence, the quiet intensity that always made me nervous. I knew he was waiting for an explanation, and I had no idea what kind of reaction to expect. Was he going to yell at me? Or worse, hit me?“I…” I began, hesitantly. I at least had to try to explain myself. “I’m sorry

  • The Billionare's Wife   Exposed.

Chapter FifteenKevin’s POVI watched the commotion unfold in the restaurant. At first, I wanted to step in, but luckily, President Davis did. Honestly, how could that man even think of bullying Mrs. Knight? If Mr. Knight finds out about this, that man is surely going to jail.I turned around and headed back to the company, still processing what I had just witnessed. Earlier today, I’d been keeping an eye on her, waiting outside the Knight mansion for hours, hoping she would come out at least once, to shop, meet someone, anything but she didn’t. I finally asked one of the security guards, and he told me she always goes out every morning, which was strange. From everything I’d heard, she was supposed to be a stay-at-home wife. The guard gave me directions to the route she usually takes. But one question kept running through my mind, why would Mrs. Knight, the wife of a billionaire, leave the house without a driver? Was she doing something shady? After hours of searching, I got tired an
