The Blessed Beta

"How do we have nothing?!?! We have been searching for weeks, going over every missing person's file with a fine toothed comb and we still have NOTHING!!" I yelled in frustration. How? How is this even possible?? 

I exhale loudly. “I am sorry guys. It’s not your fault this is happening. It’s just so fucking frustrating…” I growl and walk over to my office window. Our Alpha, Jericho, is out of town on pack business. I have been looking over the pack and everything has been smooth. But being in charge of this investigation is more stressful than anything I have ever done before.

“Tora, it’s not your fault either. You nor Jericho can help that we have pack members going missing. It’s even a miracle that you noticed the pattern when you did. We are a big pack, man. It’s hard to tell who is leaving, or who has just passed away. There isn’t any way to tell that they have been kidnapped or just walked out of the pack.” Our Gamma, Cree, told me.

“Cree, we have at the very least 7 pack members missing. Missing from their homes as if they just disappeared into thin air. All we have is photos of spots of blood in the woods, black residue in all the homes that come back as inconclusive when tested, and a pack full of wolves with great training and the best security system money can buy and no one has seen or heard anything..” I growl. Argos, my wolf, is on the surface, he takes his Beta duties very seriously. As do I. But this is going overboard.

“Maybe you should go see Adrienne for some stress relief. That usually does the trick.” Cree jokes. And I know he means well but this stress can’t be fixed with a mear sex visit to my girlfriend. 

“Want to run the border once more today and see if there is anything we missed before?” Cree asks, and Argos urges me to go. I nod.

We exit my office, and as if she was listening, Adrienne appears in front of me. Her pretty blonde hair pulled back into a braid, blue eyes shining, she's in a pretty blue crop top and a pair of high waisted blue jeans.

“Where are you heading, handsome?” She asks as she reaches to kiss my cheek, and weirdly runs her fingers through my brown hair.

“Not now, love. Me and Cree are gonna go run the border again.. We had to have missed something.” I say as I start to walk away. For some reason, I am not that interested in seeing her today.

“Why can’t you do that later? I came all this way to see you..” She tries to seduce me and pout at the same time.

“I’ll make it up to you, I promise. But this is something I have to do. I am in charge while Jericho is away, you know that. Sorry, the pout won’t work this time.” I chuckled at her cuteness. 

“Don’t laugh at me, Beta. But come see me later then..” She says with a huff as I wave goodbye without looking at her and race down the stairs to catch up with Cree.

“You’ll be paying for that later.” He laughs.
