故事簡介

Tragic Love

Melodramatic

Bias

Mistress

Scumbag

Winning Back the Wife

Cheating

I once believed meeting Charles was the final ray of comfort in my life. A sightless man and a terminally ill woman, leaning on each other to find warmth in the dark. I gave up chemotherapy, pushing through cancer pain to work, all just to leave behind every cent I had for my "blind" boyfriend and our unborn baby. I even signed an organ donor form, hoping that after my death, my eyes could finally bring him light. That belief shattered when I saw a photo in the hospital director's office. There he was, surfing under the bright sun. His eyes shone, with an arm wrapped around an heiress dripping in multi-million-dollar jewels. It turns out our whole love story was nothing more than a rich kid's bet, and my devotion was nothing more than entertainment for his wealthy friends. He trampled my father's hard-earned savings into the dirt and burned my late mother's legacy on a single night of fireworks just to make another woman smile. So, I shredded the donor agreement and lay on the operating table for an abortion with a smile. Since they wanted a game, I’d play along with them until the end.

Chapter 1

Margo's POV

I had just stepped out of the hospital when I heard the voice message Charles Cooper had sent me.

"Baby, I’m working overtime at the massage parlor tonight. I'll make an extra twenty bucks to buy you that necklace."

There was a time I would've instantly replied with a sequence of sixty-second-long voice notes, showering him with praise. But right now, my throat felt completely parched, and I couldn't squeeze out a single word.

Because just a moment ago, in that photo, the matching couple's necklace he was wearing with that other girl was clearly a custom piece worth eight figures.

A wave of bitterness in my mouth felt like it was seeping straight into my heart.

Then, another voice message notification came through.

"Why are you ignoring me? Don't you want it?"

My fingers were trembling so hard that I accidentally hit the wrong key and sent a message.

He replied in a split second. "Why did you just send a period?"

I stared at the screen, tears spilling out as a bitter laugh broke through my chest.

It turned out he could see this entire time.

Heavy snow battered my face as I searched frantically up and down the street. Finally, inside a private room, I saw Charles surrounded by a crowd.

Laughter echoed from inside the room. "Charles, when are you planning to come clean?"

He tilted his head back, gulping down half a glass of liquor.

That was the first time I clearly saw those cold, piercing eyes of his. They were just as beautiful as I had dreamed a thousand times before.

He had once sighed, telling me that restoring his sight required a cornea donor, not to mention a million dollars for the surgery.

I had seriously thought about it and decided I was going to donate my own corneas to him after I died. I had even found someone to arrange selling off every single part of my body. Surely, that would raise a million dollars.

Restoring his sight was the obsession of my life.

'So, Charles, how could you ever repay the three years of pure, undivided love I gave you?'

At the drinking table, Charles' answer sounded carelessly light. "Anytime, really. I'm already bored of her. She's the one clinging to me."

The girl from the photo, Nicole Fuller, threw herself onto him, planting a loud kiss on his cheek. Laughing, she reached into his pocket for a velvet box.

He stopped her hand. "That one’s a ten-dollar cheap find with free shipping. Yours is being delivered straight from the flagship boutique."

The room erupted in roaring laughter.

"Hahaha! Cheap women only deserve cheap knockoffs!"

Nicole pouted playfully. "Charles, when we get engaged, let's invite that old hag to the party, okay?"

The ember of Charles' cigarette flickered in the dimly lit room. For once, he didn't say anything.

Someone chimed in, "Charles, you didn't actually fall for her, did you?"

"Come on, that woman is completely obsessed with him! Her mom left her entire inheritance to Charles just so he could open that... blind massage parlor!"

"Hahahaha!"

Amidst the burst of laughter, I felt like I was plunging into a bottomless abyss.

Even on her deathbed, my mom had tried to warn me. "Charles has no parents, no car, no house... I'm just afraid you'll suffer."

Yet, she still ended up leaving the money to Charles.

"When my daughter gets married, take care of her," she had said.

That day, as Charles stood in front of the small shop meant to earn our living, he turned his face away, his hands trembling.
