Chapter 20

"OK," I said, looking at Connor. " What is your side of the story?"

He takes a deep breath before he starts speaking. After all that's going on, I'm going to get my mates' side of the story. The real side.

" I was 16 at the time. I had just got back from a run when an alert ran through the mind link from Alpha Conan. He said, a large pack of rogues had made it past the border and passed our guards and our job was to protect the women and children. I took off to the pack house where Luna was," says Connor.

" Why didn't you run back to protect your family? I'm sure the Luna had enough protection," I say. I was curious. He never really talks about his family.

" I was doing my job. I ran to the pack house to see it was already surrounded by rogues. My wolf is already as huge as it was. I single-handedly took down all the rogues in front of the house and managed to get in. I ran in search for the Luna and found her cornered in human form in the den by three huge rogues. They then moved out of the way like they were making a path for me to get to her. Boy was I wrong. They were making a path for their boss, "he said.

" The boss of the rogues?" I ask.

He nods. " The most powerful and dangerous of them all."

So this is the story he didn't want to talk about before when I asked about this most dangerous rogue.

Well, things just got even more interesting.

" As soon as the rogues had moved, I took a step forward, but froze when I sensed a powerful and dangerous presence behind me. It was even more powerful than Alpha Conan's presence. I turned around as I heard the Luna yell for me to move. I looked up and stared straight into the eyes of the most dangerous rogue there was."

This is making me a bit scared given the fact that this rogue he's talking about has sent rogues after me.

" Even to my wolf, he was monstrous. His eyes showed nothing but pure evil. They were blood-red and seemed to glow. Just looking into his eyes made my entire body tremble with fear. I stood my ground though and let out a growl to warn him away from the Luna. That was a mistake. Right after I growled, he let out a loud and fierce snarl that made me cower back some, he then raised his paw and knocked me to the side pretty hard. Not only did the paw hit me, it created three long gashes in my side that left scars," says Connor.

Before I could ask, he showed me the side he got hit on and, sure enough, there were three long scars made by claws.

He sure was telling the truth. I knew he always way, but we got proof to show if we have to tell other people this story.

I lifted my hand and traced the middle scar. He closed his eyes and let out a sigh.

He was calming himself down. This story really did affect him in a very bad way.

I scooted closer to him and kissed his cheek. He continued the story then.

" Once I was down, he walked right up to the Luna and shifted. I heard their conversation. He said his name was Fenris. I had trouble concentrating on what he was talking about because of the pain in my side from his claws. She asked what he wanted, and he said he wanted to make Alpha Conan suffer like Alpha Conan made him, and what better way to do that then to kill Alpha's mate?" says Connor. His voice was shaky as he spoke.

I mentally wince at that. He's now having trouble talking about it. I move to where I'm sitting on his lap and I kiss his cheek again.

He wraps his arm around me and manages a small smile. The smile is soon gone though.

" As he got closer to her, I looked around and saw all the people who were sent and ordered to protect the Luna were dead and lying limp on the ground. I got to my feet and pounced on the big rogue, but just before I did, he had shifted to his wolf and his claws sliced across the Luna's stomach, and she fell screaming. I tackled him and somehow pinned him down and sliced across his face. That was all I could do, because after that I was thrown onto the wall. I attacked the other rogues while I dodged their boss. Soon it was just against him. Blood was everywhere, and before he could attack me we both sensed Alpha Conan coming. The rogue leaped over me and took off the way it came," says Connor.

I could tell from all he had said he didn't want to talk about this anymore. I didn't want to force him, but I didn't stop him because I needed to learn the truth, and it also seemed like a weight was being lifted off his shoulders as he was telling me this.

" I then felt the pain of everything, but I managed to crawl over to the Luna. She looked at me, she told me that I did so well and that she was proud of me and that she — that she loved me with all her heart, and she also told me to always obey the Alpha no matter what. Then she took her last look at me, and her last breath and that's when she... Died." He said.

What did she mean by that? The Luna loves everyone. It's her job to love and look after everyone, just like the Alpha.

" I laid next to her for a few seconds before Alpha Conan and his bête and third ran in. He shifted right away when he saw her and by the look on his face, it looked like he wanted to kill me then and there. He ordered me to shift and I did. There was blood everywhere, and the bodies of the guards, but the bodies of the rogues were gone," says Connor.

I laid into his chest as he continued talking.

" He sentenced me to life in the pack prison for killing the Luna. There was blood everywhere, and I was the only one around, and I was also covered with not only my blood but the rogues and the Luna's. He didn't even let's explain what happened. He just blamed me for it right away without a second thought. I was in that prison till I finally escaped a few days ago. I was fed every day and given water, but that was it and I never got to see anyone besides the prison guards. I don't want to go back," says Connor.

" You won't go back, baby. I promise." I say.

He smiled when I called him baby. " Do you have any questions?" he asked.

" A few." I say.

" Ask away," he says.

I nod. " What did the Luna mean when she said all that to you before she died? Doesn't she love and care for the entire pack the same?" I ask.

He just gives me a small smile. That confuses me then. " Well, what about your family? What happened to them after that attack and the death of the Luna?" I ask.

He looked down. " From that moment after Luna died, and the Alpha sent me to the pack prison for life, I no longer had a family, "he said.

My eyes went wide as I finally realized what he meant. " You mean Alpha Conan and the Luna are your... "

He looked at me and nodded. My eyes go wide and I can't believe it. This explains why I sense so much power when I'm around him.

Alpha Conan and the pastor Luna are Connor's parents.
