Chapter 22

The next morning, my brother woke me up.

He said that today he wanted me to go visit Kurt while he went out with a few other people to patrol the borders.

I agreed and got up to get dressed. I grabbed a nice outfit and quickly got dressed before making my way downstairs.

I walked into the empty kitchen and saw my mom had made pancakes and bacon, so I helped myself to some. Apparently they had all left to do something today like every Saturday.

After I ate, I grabbed my phone and took off for the pack hospital to visit Kurt.

Once I got there, I went to his room to see he was lying on his back staring blankly at the ceiling.

He must have been bored, because he looked at it.

" Hey Kurt." I say.

He snaps out of his thoughts and looks at me. His eyes lit up with joy when he saw me.

" Hey Amber, I'm glad you could make it." Says Kurt.

" Me to. By the looks of it though. I'm guessing you were bored or of your mind," I say.

" You'd be correct in that. Just sitting here staring at the ceiling all day with the occasional visit can be pretty boring," says Kurt.

" When do you think you'll be able to leave this place?" I ask.

He gives me a small smile. " I would leave now if I could, but the doctor wants me to stay another day or two and my dad agreed with him and ordered me to stay, so, as we all know, you can't disobey an Alpha." Says Kurt.

I nod. " I know the feeling of having to obey the rules even if you don't want to," I say.

He smiles. " So, from what I've heard from my father, guards on patrol found three dead rogues by the lake deep in the woods. Someone killed one of them in human form," says Kurt.

My eyes go wide in fake shock. I, of course, knew exactly what happened and who did it.

" Really? Do you know who did it?" I ask.

" No, we do not, but whoever it was. We thank him for it, for if he or she had not killed them, people could have lost their lives," says Kurt.

I nod. Good they don't know it was Connor who did it. I just hope they never figure it out.

" I wish I wasn't stuck here. I'm itching to help with this rogue problem," says Kurt.

I nod. " I would help if I was allowed as well, but my father always refuses to let me come along on a patrol," I say.

Kurt smiles. " Then, in that case, when I'm better and fully healed, I'm taking you with me on a patrol," says Kurt.

I stare at him. A bit shocked by what he said.

" Can you even do that?" I ask.

" I'm Alpha's son. I can work something out," says Kurt.

I grin at him. " Thanks." I say.

He just nods. Soon enough, I had to leave and head on to the packed house.

On Saturday nights, the entire pack always gets together, and we eat a huge meal together.

I always help out with setting the huge table and I also help with some of the cooking and baking.

I look into the woods as I walk and just barely spot Connors grey wolf running after me in the safety of the trees.

I smile because I know that means he's following me in case I need help.

I love the fact he's protective of me and my wolf is more than thrilled.

Soon I walked into the doors of the packed house and walked towards the kitchen.

As I walk in, I'm greeted by happy faces and welcoming hugs by members of the pack.

The Luna walked up to me. Yeah, I forgot to mention that Luna loves to help out with stuff like this.

She hugs me. " It's great to see you, Amber," says Luna.

" It's great to see you as well, Luna Chloe," I say, bowing my head in respect.

" Oh Amber, please just call me Chloe," says Luna.

I nod and smile. She leads me over to the room next to the kitchen.

Inside the room was a huge table where the pack ate together.

There were two chairs at the end of the table where the Alpha and Luna sit, and seats around them where the bête, the third and their families sit.

There on the side closest to the Luna and I were many containers that consisted of silver wear, napkins, plates and cups.

The Luna and I started to set up the table with a few others.

I know that because Alpha George wants Kurt to stay another night at the pack hospital, he won't be joining us tonight.

Luna Chloe says that she will be visiting Kurt later tonight and will be bringing him some food for dinner so he won't have to eat the nasty stuff the hospital serves.

Kurt claimed he's losing his ability to taste food and wants something good in order to bring it back.

I chuckled at that because it's just so hurt.

Kurt is a crazy sweet guy. I can't wait till he finds his mate. She's going to love him and I know for sure he will treat her like a queen.

Kurt is funny and may act really stupid at times, but when it comes to life-threatening situations and stuff with the pack. He's a completely different guy.

I like that fact though. It proves he'll be a great alpha in the future.

I then went into the kitchen with the Luna once the entire table was set up, and we started helping with cooking and baking.

I help with the baking and the Luna helps with cooking on the stove.

Soon, once things are done cooking and have cooled a second, I help the Luna and a few others, including my mother, carry the food to the dining room and set it on the table.

I love helping out with this stuff. It's fun and I really enjoy it.

Soon we were done and sat down in our spots as we waited for the pack to come.

Soon the entire pack is here and everyone is seated.

The Alpha stands up and everyone stops talking, and all attention goes to the Alpha.

" Now I would like to say a few words before we start eating," says Alpha George.

He clears his throat and continues. " This morning, three rogues were found dead in a lake deep in the woods. No one knows who or what killed them, but I am grateful this thing that killed them got to them before they made it to where we sleep. Do to another rogue sighting. All runs are forbidden until we get this rogue business under control, unless you really need to go run. If so, you should go with two guards. This is for safety and I hope you all understand. Now onto a better topic. I am glad everyone is OK, and we are here together to enjoy each other's company. Now let's sit and enjoy this meal prepared by wonderful ladies in this pack. Thanks to those that cooked and set the table for all the work they put into this. Let's eat." Says Alpha George.

Everyone said thanks to us before we all started eating and enjoying each other's company.
