Rhysand's pov.

At first, I felt stiff as I watched Bridgette and Sandra's fight get more intense in every blink of an eye. Sandra was so impatient to even hear an explanation from neither me nor Bridgette, and Bridgette– she was not willing to give any.

I took to my heels and grabbed Bridgette by the arm. Sandra saw a clear spot to land her attack, but I happened to be faster; her hand clashed against mine, and then, her gaze, burning with fury, landed on me.

“It's making sense now," Sandra's voice cut through the silence and I could not help but tilt my head sideways.

“What is?" A small smile appeared on her face but I was not giving in to that. “What the fuck is making sense?!" I saw her take a step back in what seemed to be more of shock than fear.

“Rhysand?”

It was Bridgette speaking, but her words barely registered. My focus was locked on Sandra, and I had no intention of looking away.

“Why don’t you take a look around and tell me—does any of this make sense to you?” but befo

BridgetteHis words spoken in the heat of the moment echoed through the empty lot. Despite knowing we were the only ones there, I looked around, searching for any witnesses."You were jealous," I said slowly, my voice lowered below a whisper, still trying to wrap my head around it. "Why would you say such a thing?"He sighed, jaw clenched as he looked away from me. "The moment I heard the word date, and you acting all sketchy, I didn't like it.""That's not what I asked," I countered with a frown, folding my arms. "Why would you be jealous? What does my going on a date have to do with your jealousy?"His eyes flicked to mine, sharp and unreadable. "Because I don't want you to date, Kale.""Cole," I corrected."Same thing," he countered, brushing his hand through his hair. "Either way. Don't date him.""Not that it's any of your business who I date," I replied with an even tone, "but I wasn't planning on dating him.""You weren't?" he asked, his eyes lighting up, excitement tainting hi

Rhysand I knew I shouldn't be petty or even think that way. Tessa hadn't forced Bridgette into anything, ‘just guided her into the arms of that pretender’ a vicious voice inside of me spat. The memory of Cole staring and touching Bridgette, watching her as she laughed at his stupid jokes, annoyed me so much I almost wished I'd punched him then and there, and warned that he never stepped his foot in my building ever again maybe that would have taught him a lesson to stay away from what was mine. Mine? When had I begun to think Bridgette belonged to me? The single thought shook my very core, I was stepping into dangerous waters and I didn't know how to get out of it.Did I want to get out of it?Before I could shake myself out of my dark thoughts, Tessa's voice did it for me.“Mr. Warner, it's nice to see you,” she said, her brows arched, mischief flashed in her eyes.“Likewise,” I drawled, shaking my head in greeting, I ignored her expression, and refused to acknowledge the women by

Rhysand She was driving me crazy, here I was trying to stop her from making the biggest mistake of her life and she continued to challenge me every step of the way.I couldn't believe I had to spell things out for her, Cole wasn't the one for her, dating him would be a disaster, the man I had seen a few minutes ago had too much to hide, his smile, his voice, everything about him screamed pretense and I wasn't just saying this because I felt threatened by him.I exhaled slowly, and stepped forward, closing the space between us. My voice was as low as I could bring it without having to whisper. “I’m just trying to protect you, Bridgette.”“From what? A man who brought me flowers and acted with more maturity in two minutes than you’ve shown in all the years I've worked under you.”My jaw clenched. That was low, although she wasn't wrong, I'd been nothing but a stumbling block for her, and had even worsened after the initial of our parents, but that didn't mean I didn't want the best for

BridgetteThe sudden push of the door jolted me alert, choking back the laughter, my head whipped towards the entrance, and my tensed body relaxed slightly at the person I saw.Rhysand. His eyes were wild, his nose flared, and the air around him sharpened enough to cut glass. What was happening? Did someone die?I didn’t understand why he had barged in like that and my formerly relaxed posture tensed again. Is everything okay, Mr Ryhsand?” I asked, not forgetting to keep things professional. My stepbrother didn’t answer me. Instead, he stepped into the office with a swagger, his gaze flicked to Cole, who was sitting opposite me with a cup of coffee, relaxed and charming. The bouquet of cream and pink lilies he’d brought sat on my desk, fresh and beautiful.“I see you have a guest.” He said through gritted teeth, I frowned confused at his tone.Cole glanced between us and then stepped forward, offering his hand with a polite smile. “Hello, I'm Cole. Nice to meet you, Mr Warner.”The g

RhysandMy office was quiet, but my head was loud, filled with the insistent chatter of my raging thoughts. I sat behind my desk, fingers tapping against the polished wood, replaying the night before, dissecting and analyzing as my life depended on it. The memory of her filled my mind.“I’m sorry Bridgette, for everything. The side comments, making you feel bad, pushing you into tight corners, and I lied you aren't a prude, I was just being an arse, please forgive me.” I begged, my heart in my chest as I stared at her.She shrugged, her expression unreadable “You still are.” “What ?” I choked, not believing my ears, she turned to me with a smile, “I said you still are, Rhysy.” She agreed sweetly, earning a side glare from me, she shrugged, unaffected, ‘It is what it is, you are used to getting your way, and couldn't understand how a smart and genius girl like myself can manage to beat you, but I can understand and since I'm an angel, I'll forgive you. What's one more soul to save?’”

Bridgette The next morning, I hurried out of the house to catch a taxi for my 7:30 meeting, and I didn't think I could handle the city’s traffic if I waited any longer. I couldn't wait for the designated driver either. The drive back to the office was uneventful; the parking lot buzzed with office workers, entering and leaving the premises. I was halfway to the entrance when I heard my name, I turned to find Tessa heading towards me, her face flushed with the morning sun.“There you are!” She greeted, her eyes held a twinkle of worry. “What happened last night? One minute you were there and the next you vanished, I was worried.”My stomach dropped, and the mix of guilt and shame churned deep. I'd totally forgotten the chaos, that was Sandra and Rhysands attack. I forgot to give her a heads-up.“I’m so sorry,” I said, covering my face. “Something came up and I had to leave in a hurry. I didn’t mean to ditch you guys—”Tessa raised a hand. “It’s okay. We were all worried, including
