Theo

I caught Sergei's stare from the mirror and reluctantly pushed my phone into my pocket. “If you love me that much then maybe you should stop sitting in the passenger seat and just melt into me.”

The driver cleared his throat.

Sergei wasn't fazed by my jab and further asked, “Hartley, are you okay?”

I looked out the car window. Dawn was just peeling out of darkness but we were already in suits on our way to a meeting.

“I'm perfect.”

He nodded and dragged his eyes away from the rearview mi

MirabellaBeing married to a billionaire definitely had its perks and its dangers. More high end art enthusiasts came by with one project or the other, more features in magazines and for the danger part, I was constantly feeling watched, the guilt thawing away at my heart and my faltering heart. After the night we laid together and I had woken up snuggled into his chest with his arms guarded around me, the steady beat of his heart against my ear, I knew I had to behave. Maybe Harper was right. I couldn't bring myself to really believe Harper over Theo but my doubt was loud especially because of my history with men. Harper must really know his brother better than anyone else and truly I didn't know Theo.I didn't even know the nature of his job, so I snooped around his home office and found out. Thankfully it was open. It had been the only room locked during my first tour and it was usually that way.He was working from home on some days especially when he was supervising my home work

Mira I cleared my throat.“Took it out to wash my face.” I lied then continued rummaging.I pulled him to sit and started scampering around looking for the first aid box, opening and closing cupboards, his hand caught my wrist when I reached for a top cabinet, his body heat consumed any cold I may have felt, I didn't even realize when he had moved, he was quiet, always moving with calm precision like he always knew, he was always watching.I turned around and our bodies were close, too close. I could smell a mix of mint and whiskey from his mouth and sandalwood from his skin, instinctively my eyes went to his but in them was something I couldn't name. His hand was still grasping my wrist, for a moment I thought I'd stopped breathing.“Why did you see him, Bella?” He asked in a low voice close to a rumble, a rumble of emotions about to unfold. My eyes shot open, his question broke off the rising anticipation between my legs. I swallowed. “See who?”He hung his head between us, his sh

  • The Bride He Wanted Was Never My Sister    Chapter 22: Where is Your Ring?

MiraOur plates were mostly cleared and Cass was laughing at another bad joke of Harper’s. I couldn't help but smile as I slurped in a thick serving of chocolate milkshake, life got so serious I hadn't done anything I loved doing. The workshop had been closed since the previous day and for once no guilt followed my day off. Earlier when he'd come to pick me up I dropped it on him that Cass was going to be joining us and disappointment passed his face briefly but doing this took off the whole guilt of breaching the contract, it was better to meet him with Cass as our chaperone than meet him alone. I had texted him Cassie’s address and he picked us up. I made sure to slide my ring into my bag and that act made me feel like I was about to cheat on my husband. My mind zoned out of the conversation Cass and Harper were having. Theo and I are supposed to have our contact meeting tonight when he returns, the one with eye contact and no phones, I wondered how whatever work he had to handle

I rested my arm on the side door and rested my jaw on my hand, unable to shake off the irritable feeling brewing inside of me.In less than an hour we were at Nic’s residence. His estate rolled open endlessly with equally endless plains of greenery before the white mansion came into view. As expected his men were stationed in twos and fours all over the mansion. I gave Sergei a warning look. “We are not reacting, so keep that insolent gun of yours in check.” He merely nodded. In this day

Mira Right. Love you. Love me? What did he even mean? What did love mean to him or to me? I couldn't fathom what irked me about his text. Was it the fact that it was so impersonal or was it the fact he even mentioned love in the first place. The thought made me snort out a laugh. And no, nothing about this was funny. Cassie must have noticed I had gone quiet and was burning a hole into my phone because she snatched it. “Did you see a ghost or something?” Then she saw the ghost I had just seen because her mouth hung wide open. “How far have you progressed?” She squealed. I was too stunned by her question. This was the same woman chewing me out for accepting a shotgun wedding for the last what? 12 hours? “No progress at all.” I said and tossed her a pair of folded jeans. “What are you talking about?” We'd done her piled up laundry from two weeks ago before she'd gone on shift. I wondered how she survived her occupation because from my point of view, travelling to over t

  • The Bride He Wanted Was Never My Sister    Chapter 19: Wifely Benefits

TheoI had just wheeled an elderly man into his ward and put him to bed. He had gotten enough sun and was already half asleep on his wheelchair, his head bobbing to the scrunch of gravel underneath the wheels of his chair. He preferred to be called Colonel Williams. The man had seen my wedding ring and tears filled his eyes as he talked about the sweetness of being married, how he loved his wife so dearly before cancer took her away.I wondered if I and Mira would love this deeply. I felt that way but did she?“Cancer ruined our plan to die together, sitting in our matching rocking chairs and matching nighties till we slept.” He choked out. “We were supposed to be side by side.” He had said into the air.I bent so we could be on eye level. I brushed my thumb over his wrinkled hand. “When you do fall asleep, she'll be right beside you.” I assured him. I would make that happen. Thanks to Sergi’s commitment to the city elderly people's home, I was also a volunteer just like him and it ha

  • The Bride He Wanted Was Never My Sister    Chapter 10: The Sweetest Temptation

Theo The wedding night was a terror that made me cave to leave with Sergi to Chicago to settle a matter that could wait. Or Sergi could very much handle the gruesome part of things but I'd taken off my frustration on the poor man who'd ratted out the confidential information of a senator. Giving

I wasn't one to be jittery. My palms were sweaty, my nerves were getting the better of me but all that ceased as the large hall door opened and the bride stepped in with her father.I watched closely as she walked further.I made the call, but the only way to know if it worked was to see the bride,

I was supposed to accompany my sister, walk her down the aisle, and be her bridesmaid. What I was not supposed to be doing was wearing her dress and walking down the aisle perched on my father's arm to be wedded to the same man my sister was supposed to marry.“Keep smiling Mirabella.” My father hi
