Chapter 1

Whispers rippled through the guests, sharp and slicing.

Heat crawling up my neck, as if their eyes were peeling me alive.

“Bianca… I know I’ve wronged you.”

Valentina stepped toward me. The woman who had always carried herself like a princess now wore a rare expression of guilt.

“But the doctors said I have no more than a year left.” Her voice trembled.

“I just wanted to wear a wedding dress before I die. This is my only wish.”

“Please… let me have it.”

When she said these, her eyes held the same stubbornness she’d had since childhood.

She looked exactly like the little tyrant she’d always been—always taking whatever she wanted, always taking from me.

I turned to Luca, my voice shaking.

“Luca… is this what you want too?”

His gaze flickered between us, struggle flashing across his eyes.

“Bianca, please understand. Your sister is sick. And she’s pregnant…”

He reached for my hand. Instinctively, I stepped back.

“Dad… Marco… you too?”

My father let out a heavy sigh and placed a hand on my shoulder.

“Bianca, let your sister have this. She doesn’t have much time left.”

My brother looked uncomfortable but still nodded.

“It’s just one wedding. You can have another one later.”

Cold spread through my body.

These people—my family—looked familiar but felt like strangers.

And then, before anyone could react, Valentina suddenly snatched the gun from Luca’s waist and pressed it against her temple, tears streaming down her face.

“I should just die right now!” she cried.

“I won’t burden any of you… and Bianca won’t hate me anymore!”

A collective gasp rippled through the room.

Just as she was about to pull the trigger, the priest lunged forward from behind and ripped the gun from her hand.

Surrounded by comforting arms, Valentina sobbed so hard she could barely breathe.

“I know Bianca never liked me. Just let me go… Let she have what she wants…”

“Bianca, this is too far!” my brother snapped, fury blazing as he moved to strike me.

Luca stepped between us.

“Don’t touch her!”

Then he turned to me—

the gentle eyes he had all the time burned with cold and disappointment.

“Bianca, apologize to Valentina. Tell her you don’t mind.”

His tone was soft… but left no room for refusal.

My throat tightened. Luca clearly wasn’t going to let this go.

“I’m sorry…”

I whispered, the words falling apart as tears streamed down my face.

I felt like I couldn’t even breathe staying in that place, so I ran out of the church — straight to the house Luca and I were supposed to stay for tonight.

The world had never felt so hollow. I have no idea what to do. I just numbly packed my suitcase.

This house—

I had chosen it with Luca.

I had spent weeks working with the designer.

It was supposed to be our “home”.

Now it became nothing but a cruel joke.

“Bianca, what are you doing?”

Luca rushed in, freezing when he saw my packed luggage.

“Where are you going?”

He grabbed my wrist.

“Bianca, don’t do this. This was…not what I wanted.”

“Valentina is sick and emotional. Don’t hold it against her.”

I lifted my head and looked at him.

The man I loved for years was now no more than a stranger wearing his face.

“Luca… don’t you even understand how cruel you were to me today?”

“You stood beside her. You had a wedding with her. What did that make me?”

“Bianca, you’re overreacting.” He froze for a moment, then pulled me into his arms.

“I just want to fulfil her last wish. It doesn’t mean anything.”

“Just one year. We’ll have our wedding then.”

I kept my mouth shut.

There was nothing left to say.

I calmly pushed him away.Only then did Luca notice Gio standing beside me.His expression shifted instantly, turning sharp and wary.“Who is he?”“A friend,” I said evenly. “And what are you doing here?”Luca stared at me in disbelief—as if he hadn’t expected me to be so cold.“Bianca, I know you’ve suffered.”“Listen—I already know everything about Valentina’s lies. You’re innocent. Come back with me. We can get married as soon as you wish.”“I swear, I’ll give you the grandest wedding imaginable.”Hearing that, I almost wanted to laugh. The things I once yearned for so desperately—he had given them to someone else without hesitation. And now that I had let go—he offered them back so easily.Everything was far too late.I looked at him calmly.“Aren’t you already mar

Switzerland. The moment I stepped off the plane and drew my first breath of Swiss air, I knew I would fall in love with this country.Picturesque, quiet, serene—and far, far away from my father, Marco… and Luca.I found a nice apartment with a peaceful environment and settled in.Next came the matter of finding myself a job.During this time, I didn’t stop writing.I kept updating my blog with the little stories I encountered on the plane and during my travels.Unexpectedly, I gained quite a few readers.“Your writing is so healing—warm with a hint of humour. It makes my heart feel light.”“The blogger seems so gentle. I’d love to know you in real life.”Seeing their comments genuinely lifted my mood.A week later, an email suddenly appeared in my inbox.“Hello, I’m an editor at Zephyr Publishing. Valentina crashed to the ground from Luca’s kick, a sharp pain twisting in her stomach.Holding her belly, she tried desperately to explain:“Luca, I’m carrying your child!”“Please, just for the baby’s sake, forgive me this once!”Luca let out a cold laugh.“A child? What child?”“Valentina Moretti, don’t forget—we’ve never even slept together.”“The bastard in your belly—what the hell does that have to do with me?”Valentina’s face turned deathly white. She had never imagined Luca would be this ruthless. She opened her mouth to defend herself, but Luca no longer had any intention of listening. He lifted a hand, and his men immediately stepped forward to restrain her.“Lock her in the basement. I’ll deal with her later.”Without another glance, Luca walked out of the ward.On the other side of the hospital, my father finally woke up after resuscitation. The moment he opened his eyes, he saw Marco and Luca standing beside the bed.He forced himself upright, sighing as he looked at Luca

Hospital.Luca was peeling an apple while staring absently at his phone.Valentina noticed his distraction, and a wave of anxiety tightened her chest.“Luca… are you waiting for someone’s call?”“No.”He forced a smile, set the phone aside, and continued peeling the apple.Normally, when he stayed at the hospital with Valentina, I would get jealous and keep messaging him, asking him to come home earlier. But today, I didn’t send him a single text.Looking at him, a quiet unease slowly rose within Valentina.Ever since last night, he has been acting strange.“Is he still worried about Bianca?”“No, I can’t let anything between them spark back to life.”“Luca, my head hurts a little… can you rub it for me?”Valentina clung to his arm, voice soft and sweet.Luca put down the apple and gently pressed her temples.Valentina took the chance to lean into his chest and confessed:“Luca… I love you so much. “Be a good girl, Bianca.”Luca’s hand slid through my hair, his voice impossibly gentle.“You haven’t eaten all day, have you? I’ll ask the chef to make your favourite creamy seafood pasta.”“Get some rest. I’ll call you when dinner’s ready.”Then he left as though nothing had happened. His footsteps echoed in the silence.I had nothing to do but return to packing my suitcase.Just as I reached the doorway, an angry voice drifted from the study—sharp, furious.Luca’s.“Signor Moretti. Marco. Why didn’t you tell Bianca her wedding was cancelled?” His voice crackled with restrained anger.“I don’t want Bianca to be humiliated in front of anyone ever again.”“This is the last time. If you treat her like that again, you’ll gonna regret.”A tense silence followed.“Don, we were only thinking of Valentina,” Marco sighed.“She doesn’t have long left. We just wanted her to have her wish.”“I know,” Luca replied, his voice softening.“That’s why I agreed to the ceremony. But Bianca is innocent.
