Chapter 7

Author: Anna Smith
Switzerland.

The moment I stepped off the plane and drew my first breath of Swiss air, I knew I would fall in love with this country.

Picturesque, quiet, serene—

and far, far away from my father, Marco… and Luca.

I found a nice apartment with a peaceful environment and settled in.

Next came the matter of finding myself a job.

During this time, I didn’t stop writing.

I kept updating my blog with the little stories I encountered on the plane and during my travels.

Unexpectedly, I gained quite a few readers.

“Your writing is so healing—warm with a hint of humour. It makes my heart feel light.”

“The blogger seems so gentle. I’d love to know you in real life.”

Seeing their comments genuinely lifted my mood.

A week later, an email suddenly appeared in my inbox.

“Hello, I’m an editor at Zephyr Publishing. I came across your blog and found your writing excellent. Would you be interested in joining our publishing house as an editor?”

I hadn’t expected an opportunity to come so quickly. My heart

What were they doing here?A jolt ran through my chest. Before I could react, Luca’s eyes locked onto mine, and he strode toward me.“Bianca, I finally found you!”He pulled me into a tight embrace. My body stiffened. I calmly pushed him away.Only then did Luca notice Gio standing beside me.His expression shifted instantly, turning sharp and wary.“Who is he?”“A friend,” I said evenly. “And what are you doing here?”Luca stared at me in disbelief—as if he hadn’t expected me to be so cold.“Bianca, I know you’ve suffered.”“Listen—I already know everything about Valentina’s lies. You’re innocent. Come back with me. We can get married as soon as you wish.”“I swear, I’ll give you the grandest wedding imaginable.”Hearing that, I almost wanted to laugh. The things I once yearned for so desperately—he had given them to someone else without hesitation. And now that I had let go—he offered them back so easily.Everything was far too late.I looked at him calmly.“Aren’t you already mar

Valentina crashed to the ground from Luca’s kick, a sharp pain twisting in her stomach.Holding her belly, she tried desperately to explain:“Luca, I’m carrying your child!”“Please, just for the baby’s sake, forgive me this once!”Luca let out a cold laugh.“A child? What child?”“Valentina Moretti, don’t forget—we’ve never even slept together.”“The bastard in your belly—what the hell does that have to do with me?”Valentina’s face turned deathly white. She had never imagined Luca would be this ruthless. She opened her mouth to defend herself, but Luca no longer had any intention of listening. He lifted a hand, and his men immediately stepped forward to restrain her.“Lock her in the basement. I’ll deal with her later.”Without another glance, Luca walked out of the ward.On the other side of the hospital, my father finally woke up after resuscitation. The moment he opened his eyes, he saw Marco and Luca standing beside the bed.He forced himself upright, sighing as he looked at Luca

Inside the hospital.Luca, my father, and my brother Marco ran into each other right outside Valentina’s ward. They stared at one another—expressions tense, complicated—yet none of them spoke first.Just then, from inside the room, Valentina’s vicious voice cut through the air:“Doctor Zani, make me another cancer report and I’ll pay you handsomely.”“Don’t forget, your son is still lying in this hospital!”My father and Marco’s faces changed dramatically. They stared at the door in disbelief.Doctor Zani sounded terrified.“Signora Moretti, I really can’t do this anymore, the hospital will fire me…”“And if Don Romano finds out, I’m dead!”“Please… please let me go.”Valentina didn’t show any empathy.“Doctor, I’m your only hope.”“If you don’t help me… your son… won’t last long.”My father and Marco met each other’s gaze—shock and horror mirrored in both their eyes. The daughter and sister they had adored for over twenty years… was actually a venomous monster like this?!Luca’s face

Hospital.Luca was peeling an apple while staring absently at his phone.Valentina noticed his distraction, and a wave of anxiety tightened her chest.“Luca… are you waiting for someone’s call?”“No.”He forced a smile, set the phone aside, and continued peeling the apple.Normally, when he stayed at the hospital with Valentina, I would get jealous and keep messaging him, asking him to come home earlier. But today, I didn’t send him a single text.Looking at him, a quiet unease slowly rose within Valentina.Ever since last night, he has been acting strange.“Is he still worried about Bianca?”“No, I can’t let anything between them spark back to life.”“Luca, my head hurts a little… can you rub it for me?”Valentina clung to his arm, voice soft and sweet.Luca put down the apple and gently pressed her temples.Valentina took the chance to lean into his chest and confessed:“Luca… I love you so much. I just wish we could be a real couple.”His face darkened instantly and he pushed her aw

“Be a good girl, Bianca.”Luca’s hand slid through my hair, his voice impossibly gentle.“You haven’t eaten all day, have you? I’ll ask the chef to make your favourite creamy seafood pasta.”“Get some rest. I’ll call you when dinner’s ready.”Then he left as though nothing had happened. His footsteps echoed in the silence.I had nothing to do but return to packing my suitcase.Just as I reached the doorway, an angry voice drifted from the study—sharp, furious.Luca’s.“Signor Moretti. Marco. Why didn’t you tell Bianca her wedding was cancelled?” His voice crackled with restrained anger.“I don’t want Bianca to be humiliated in front of anyone ever again.”“This is the last time. If you treat her like that again, you’ll gonna regret.”A tense silence followed.“Don, we were only thinking of Valentina,” Marco sighed.“She doesn’t have long left. We just wanted her to have her wish.”“I know,” Luca replied, his voice softening.“That’s why I agreed to the ceremony. But Bianca is innocent.
