The moment she stepped inside, Harper felt two gazes fall on her.

When she looked up, her eyes met a pair of deep, dark ones — calm and unreadable.

Chase stood there in a tailored suit, the light reflecting off his sharp features. The commanding air he carried made him seem untouchable, like a king who didn’t belong among mortals.

For a second, Harper forgot to breathe.

There was no visible emotion on his face — none of the cold arrogance she’d seen before — but something different lingered in his eyes.

She was so dazed by the sight of him that she didn’t notice a small but formidable figure approaching until a sharp voice cut through her thoughts.

“Why on earth are you dressed like that?”

Grandma Gallagher stood right in front of her, looking her up and down in open disapproval.

Harper glanced at herself — Black polo shirt, jeans, hair simply tied back.

Before leaving work, he had piled on another mountain of tasks, forcing her to stay late. The huge office was completely empty—just her.The night was unusually quiet. But Harper didn’t dare retreat to the lounge to sleep. Instead, she simply rested her head on the desk, letting herself recharge.Meanwhile, Chase had finished showering and changing in his office. Dressed in his formal attire, he was about to leave.Passing by the CEO’s office, he spotted Harper—the familiar, delicate figure leaning over her desk in a brief rest. His long legs halted mid-step.His gaze settled on her, and his dark eyes deepened. For the first time, Chase felt his usual calm chest stir violently. She… missed him?His chest heaved, but his expression remained composed. Silently, he slipped the phone back into his pocket, lighting a cigarette.Through the curling smoke, his deep eyes gazed at the city below. The darkness was thick and unfathomable—no one could guess what was brewing in his heart. One cigarette finished, Chase pulled out his phone again and dialed the number that had just sent him the message.Just as Harper stepped out of the bedroom, her phone suddenly rang.Glancing at the caller ID, she was surprised—it was Chase. Not wanting to wake the little boy who was still sleeping, Harper quickly answered in a soft voice, “Hello?”Her voice was so quiet that it made him feel an unexpected tingle in his chest.Chase let out a short “Umm” and suddenly asked, “What do you m

The room seemed to freeze for a moment. Then a cold, icy voice hissed, seemingly squeezed out from his tiny teeth:“Damn woman… how dare you…”“Smack!” Another crisp sound mixed with Harper’s laughter.“Little kids who talk back get their bottoms spanked, you know…”Thomas was stunned. He had clearly never been scolded like this before.Harper, undeterred, went to the kitchen to prepare dinner.Thomas, deep in thought, squatted on the living room floor, hugging his knees and looking down.Harper’s heart skipped a beat. Did she hit him too hard? Had she hurt him?She put down her spatula and went over to him, gently patting his head. “Thomas, what’s wrong?”“None of your business!”His little voice was still low and grumbling.Clearly, he was sulking. Harper smiled and shook her head. She studied psychol

Harper sighed inwardly, once again cursing his unpredictable temperament. That night… she had regretted not letting him suffer a little more!Biting her lip, she spoke again. “I just… think the timeframe is too tight…”“Impossible,” he said, glancing at his watch. “I’ll be back no later than the day after tomorrow. That is the absolute deadline for submission.”Meeting his eagle-eyed gaze, she couldn’t find a reason to refuse and reluctantly nodded. “Alright.”With the task assigned, Chase abruptly ended the call, without a word of farewell.Harper stared at the dark screen, feeling defeated. She almost threw her phone in frustration—but miraculously, the video reconnected! This time, the other side wasn’t just Chase. It was a grand conference scene, and Chase, standing at the podium as a key guest, was about to speak.Dres

Chase personally drove Harper back to her graduate apartment. On the way, he didn’t mention a word about everything that had happened last night.Harper felt a little nervous; after all, she remembered at least some of what she had done.“Last night… I’m sorry. I drank too much.”The man kept his eyes on the road, replying calmly, “Sorry for what?”Harper hesitated, touching her forehead, trying to hide her embarrassment. “Just… maybe I caused you some trouble…”He raised the corner of his mouth in a cold smile. “Not just trouble.”“Ah?”Before she could figure out what he meant, he braked sharply, turned to her, and his gaze darkened. “You were… completely worn out last night.”Hearing that… why did it sound so suggestive? He glanced at her again. “What wasn’t finished last night… we’ll cont

Harper didn’t notice when dawn had arrived. She woke up parched and tried to roll out of bed to get some water. The bed shifted slightly, and a strong pair of arms wrapped around her from behind. She shivered, startled, but before she could turn, he pressed against her back.“Don’t move,” he murmured. His words were accompanied by the soft brush of his tongue near her ear, a faint, tantalizing sensation like listening to the ocean through a seashell as a child. Her body went electric; she couldn’t move, and when his lips traced her earlobe, she felt as if she was melting into water.“What are you doing?”Her voice was soft, almost pitiful.Chase’s eyes narrowed, a playful smile tugging at his lips. Seeing that she had regained consciousness, he decided to tease her further.“Once more.”“What?!” Harper felt as if struck by lightning.Last night… they&helli
