As we sat there staring at the bright moon, different thoughts flooded my mind, but above everything else was relief. Relief that we had all made it out together. My gaze drifted over everyone, soft and careful, and I couldn’t stop the small smile that formed on my lips.

We stayed wrapped in silence for a long while, each of us lost in our own thoughts, trying to figure out what came next.

My mind wandered back to my earlier conversation with Damon. I didn’t quite know how to explain it, but no matter how cold or intimidating he appeared, he cared—deeply. His powers were the only reason we escaped that pack so easily. They were destructive, terrifying… and effective.

I had mentioned going back to my pack, going home—but even I knew it wouldn’t be easy. They might hate me now, for all I knew. Still, the thought had only crossed my mind because of Robin. If I could just see his face, even once, it would be enough to push me forward. But that wasn’t possible anymore. I couldn’t risk putt

Damon’s POV I walked into that pack with all the confidence I could muster in that moment. I knew exactly what I was doing when I whispered that I knew their secret to the Alpha. Early, I know—but that was going to be the basis of our negotiation, so it was better to put it out there at once. We didn’t come to play, and we definitely didn’t come to be threatened. This time around, we were the ones doing the threatening. I knew the others were surprised at how easy it was to get invited in, but they’d figure it out later. Their pack was as basic as I expected—just a few huts. As we walked past, people stepped out to stare at us. “They’re looking at us like we committed some grave crime when we only just got here,” Lucian said softly. “That’s how they always are,” Julian responded. “They’re always wary.” He finished just as we stopped in front of the huge hut standing in the middle of the field. “Let’s go in,” the Alpha said sharply as he walked ahead. We followed. I stretched

I still stood rooted in my spot as they all watched me.“They’re definitely not friendly,” I said one more time. “We might have better luck if we turn back.”“Was the last time you came here really that bad?” Raven asked as she moved to stand beside me.I nodded slowly. “Rex figured out their secret at a glance,” I started, “so they were very hostile. Even with Alpha Aries with us, they were going to attack. We only got out of there after some threats Aries made, using Rex’s abilities and other factors.”Lucian sighed. “What secret would make them so careless that even an Alpha was unsafe here?” he asked, eyes on Damon.“Their pack consists of humans,” Damon said simply. “Half human, half wolf. They’re scared of being hunted down, so whoever knows their secret definitely would not walk out unscathed,” he added in a dry tone.“That’s a big secret,” Lucian muttered.“I understand their fear, though,” Raven cut in. “People always want to take out the ones they see as weaker or different

  • The Broken Beta’s Redemption    Chapter 32

Damon’s POVI didn’t know where we were running to or why we were still running when I knew we weren’t being chased anymore. The guards had lost us almost an hour ago. I saw when it happened. Yet I kept running with everyone else, because the sense of freedom felt like nothing I had ever known.I never once imagined the prison would set us free. Even after seeing Julian out of his cell, I still doubted the possibility—right up until I decided to step out of my own.I didn’t know what kind of life awaited us from now on, but the free smiles on everyone’s faces as we ran told me all I needed to know. They would be fine. I was sure of it. Hell, I would make sure of it. The men of the shadows had better sharpen their hiding skills, because I planned to do everything possible to find them.“Can we rest for a moment?” Lucian called, halting in front of me. “The sun’s almost gone. We can’t keep going without a destination. We can take the night to plan.”He finished, breathing heavily.“I ag

Sweat clung to every part of my body as I weaved through the grounds, keeping Raven and Lucian safely behind me. Damon’s energy flooded the entire area, so overwhelming that not a single soul dared to come near him. Those foolish enough to try dropped to the ground screaming, their skin burning under his power. This was the first time I truly saw how destructive Damon’s abilities were, and it left me speechless.“Keep walking and stop looking around, kid,” he yelled, briefly turning toward me. His eyes were blood red.In the next second, he grabbed a nearby guard by the throat, his energy wrapping tightly around the screaming man. He dragged the almost-limp body forward as he took bold steps, his gaze locked on Davin, who stood frozen at a distance—panic written all over his face.“Their Alpha is almost here!” Lucian shouted over the chaos.Damon seemed to hear him. He dropped the now-dead guard to the ground and turned back to us.“That’s enough playing around,” he said, reeling his

The farther we walked out of the dungeon, the faster my heart beat. I was still stuck in that loop, unable to believe we were actually free, but another worry crept in—what were we going to face once we reached the surface?I stayed at the back with Lucian, watching Damon’s back as he walked without a trace of hesitation. How was he this put together? I knew he was built different, but still.“Halt.”His voice rang out sharply, and we stopped immediately, my eyes darting to what looked like the final door. We hadn’t passed a single cell on our way out, and that alone said a lot about how mysterious this prison truly was.“If we step out of here, there’s no turning back,” he said, brows raised. “We either make it out… or we make it out.”I nodded, drawing a steady breath.“We can try to be peaceful first,” Raven called from beside him.Damon let out a slight chuckle. “We’ll see how that works out.”His hands flew to the door handle.“Ready?” he asked, his eyes sweeping over us again.L
