Finn's POV

"Jackson get up or I’m leaving your ass here... again!” I shouted through his door in the pack house.

Goddess he pissed me off, I loved going for our border patrols but half the time he left me to do it alone or he would make me late.

Our border went around our land which we share with a human settlement. After the Great War, where Vampires tried to take over completely, humans became part of our protection responsibility. Not that we minded, its much better then how it was before where we didnt know if the humans would find out about us and attack. Living this way means we have one less enemy to worry about.

The moon goddess herself came to the King Alpha and Queen Luna who made it clear we would be held responsible for any attacks on humans inhabiting our pack lands. We were lucky, we have one of the largest pack lands in the UK but we only had one human settlement to worry about. That being said rogues and vampires were still a problem so we have been working twice as hard since the war.

Still no reply or movement from his room, goddess help my brother, he’s not ready to be Alpha. “Fine” I growled and took off to do the patrol with my fathers Beta and Gamma alone... again. Alpha would not be, not that he ever cared what our dad said.

“Alone again” Beta Dylan said shaking his head disapproving. 

“I’m afraid so, I tried but again no response” I replied, not managing to cover the annoyance in my voice very well.

“He’s lucky he has you or the pack would have lost hope in our future when your father gives up his position as Alpha!” Gamma Rachel replied curtly.

“Let’s just get on with it, I’m going to rip his head off when I get home.” I grumbled, shifting into my silver/ grey wolf and taking off into the woods along the south border of our pack lands. He had a lot of explaining to do.

Everything on the patrol seemed under control, no warning signs or weak points in our border that were noticeable. When I got to the pack house I ran to Jackson’s room and burst in. “Of fucking course” I growl, “get the fuck out you slut” I scream at the half naked slag Chan. “This is you taking responsibility for the pack and trying to find your Luna is it?” I demand of my brother, “what...is the whore who can suck your cock the best but has no brains really the best Luna? She’ll be useless to help you, not that you’re any use anyway” i roar. 

He looked shocked by my outburst but quickly recovered, “oh little brother, you have no idea the stress on my shoulders, so what if I need a little release sometimes? You could do with one by the looks of it, you stiff old man!” 

“You know you're both cheating on your destined mates? Does it mean that little to you?” I can’t help but be mad, I first turned and hunted for my love, but I had a shattering pain in my chest a few months later, the nurse told us that it was the death of my destined mate. I never even found her and I’d lost her and been shattered by it. “You need to learn to respect what’s being given to you, your mate included” and with that I left before I lost it any more.

I know i hadn't been the same since the loss, but deep down i know even without my destined mate i'd still make a far better alpha then my brother. He only cares for himself, how would he ever keep a pack in line and the humans? How would he find any care to protect them the way we are supposed to?  I just hope my dad has a change of heart and sees who should be the alpha despite him being older and next in line.
