Be my wife and I’ll pay you

Ivery's Pov

I rolled my eyes already upset but still needed to be calm if truly I need to be with my phone. "I… I have no idea my phone was back there," I sputtered, looking for the right word to use. "Are you still at the pub? I will come get it."

"I'll be waiting."

It was hard to believe that I was returning back to the pub. I have decided to forget everything that happened yet I, myself, have to see him. Why must this life be so threatening? How I wish I never went into that pub. How I wish I had controlled myself from drinking so I wouldn't have to cause trouble for myself.

The cab I took didn't take long before it got to the front of the bar and I ran my way inside, heading straight to the room that was booked the other day. Suddenly, I was stopped by the receptionist not to go any further.

"Please ma'am, you haven't booked a room?" The lady at the desk said politely and I had to walk back to her.

"I'm sorry. Pardon me. I would like to see someone in one of the booked rooms," I told her and she asked about the room number which I had no idea what it was so all I did was give her my number to dial. Thankfully, Franco picked up.

"Room 8," he said to her and she got out to escort me. The door was pushed open at the first ring and the receptionist immediately bowed her head to greet him before excusing us.

"Aren't you coming in?" Franco asked as he turned back inside and I threw my face away, not ready to admire his open core. I wasn't drunk this time.

"I need my phone, please. I don't have to enter before you give me my phone," I said abit aloud, hoping he would hear me from inside.

There was ten seconds of silence before he spoke up. "Come in and have your phone or you leave without your phone." His voice was thundering icily which was surprising. I was the one who was supposed to get angry. I let out a heavy sigh before taking slow strides in.

"I'm glad you came cause I owe you an apology and it wouldn't be nice if I don't give you one," he uttered and I found my usual self scoffing.

"We aren't talking about anything and you have nothing to apologize for since I'm not angry with you so can I have my phone?" I said and watched him grab a new shirt from the closet.

He twisted his neck around his shoulders to face me and said, "You need to be calm and I want us to talk."

"We aren't!" I snapped now not ready to stay any longer in the room. "Can't I just have my phone and leave?"

He swirled around to face me, putting on his shirt as he began to button up while I made sure we weren't maintaining eye contact. "I saw a message pop on your phone and got to know how badly you need my help."

I didn't know when I burst into a peal of hilarious laughter. Obviously it was funny and as well stupid for him to say those words. I pointed at myself, "I need your help?" I asked and used my eye to scrutinize him from head to toe. He was good looking and looked like someone who I really needed help from but not him. I can never have anything to do with him.

I watched him bring out my phone from his trouser suit and began to type on it. "Don't go through my phone or I'll sue you!" I snarled and rushed to him, grabbing my phone from his hand but it was too late, he already saved his number.

"I can give you the million dollars you need for your mother's treatment if you decide to have a deal with me. Call me when you're interested," he said and picked up his shirt suit as walked past me out of the room, leaving me to my stunned state. What did he just say?

I took some steps but stopped. "What deal does he have for me? "To sleep with you? Rascal! I am in no way interested in your damn deal!" I yelled after him but he wouldn't even turn to look at me.

Few hours later…

After a stressful day at work and making sure I gave all the excuses on why I resumed late, I returned home tired and exhausted. I didn't have time to go to see my mother at the hospital but as soon as I settled down, I ran a call through to her ward.

"Ivery, my baby," my mother called sweetly from the other end.

"Hello, Mom. How are you?" I requested, pretending to be fine while I pictured how she would smile hearing my voice.

"I'm fine, Ivery baby. I didn't see you today," she uttered and I nodded my head like she could see me.

"Yes, Mom. I have to prepare for your surgery," I lied.

"Oh my dear! God is your strength, okay? And how far with it? Did you find any help?" She asked, agitated and the response that came out of me was shocking.

"Yes mom, a very good soul has promised to help us out," I told her and she screeched, happily.

"Is that so? Thank you so much Ivery baby. Thank you my darling and I'm grateful to the person," Mom appreciated and I couldn't help but drop the tears. They came crashing down. Why on earth do I have to lie when I know so much that nothing as such has happened? I have no hope and was never going to make a deal with anyone but I just needed to make her happy. Who knows what might happen?

I didn't want her to know about my mood so I told her I was tired and needed to sleep. "Sleep tight my dear. I will be expecting you," She bellowed before ending the call.

I need to act fast as soon as possible but what should I do? I began to think, staring at my phone as the thought of reaching out to Franco played in my head. "No please. I aren't having a deal," I said to myself. Yet it was the only option I had but I can't possibly sleep with him again. "You can't sleep with him to pay your mother's bill yet you slept with him for fun?" A voice enunciated in my head and I groaned. "What if he ask me to sleep with him for days, weeks, months or even years?" I thought to myself again.

I picked up my phone and went through the call logs looking for his name. I think I can do anything for my mom as long as she has always sacrificed herself for me so I don't have to suffer much. Should I have to kill her because of my selfish interest?

"Hello, who's this?" He questioned sternly and I had to maintain a silence for some seconds. He seemed cold this time and I was already having a different thought. "Speak up or I'll end the call!" He bellowed, softly but aggressive.

"I… uhm… It's…"

"Oh! I almost forgot about you just now. I've been expecting your call," he said and it seemed he knew I was the one calling.

I made a disturbed sigh before I let out, "What's the deal?"

"Be my wife and I pay you," he revealed, solemnly and I had to bring the phone down from my ear to check if truly he was the one I was speaking to.

Having confirmed that he was the one I was truly speaking to, I asked, "What did you just say?"

"You heard me clearly, darling. Marry me."

I dropped the call.
