ELISHA POV

I couldn't help but smile as I looked around at my employees and the guests enjoying the resort.

It had been three years since my parents passed away.

I still didn't know how I had managed to survive those years without them.

None of it had been easy.

Every single day felt like I was in a dark place, unable to find my way out.

I didn't know what to do, where to start my life again, or how to move forward after everything that happened to me.

My parents already trained me on how to handle our business, but I know I’m still not ready to face it without them.

But I don’t have any choice now. I need to handle everything because they’re gone. And I don’t want their hard work to get ruined.

I'm so grateful to our employees. They were among the people who helped me get to where I am today.

"You built this business on your own," Yana said.

I shook my head.

"I didn't. My parents did."

"I'm so proud of you, Eli. You've been so brave these past three years. I can't even imagine the pain you've been carrying."

I smiled at her.

"I guess that's what happens when you have a goal to hold on to. I didn't really have a choice. I couldn't let all of my parents' hard work go to waste. Besides, I had all of you supporting me."

"The resorts have become even more well-known over the past three years. I'm sure Auntie and Uncle are smiling proudly in heaven."

"They better be!" I laughed. "I nearly lost my sanity trying to memorize and learn everything I needed to know."

"But are you really sure about your decision?"

I looked at her and nodded.

"I trust my employees enough to manage the resorts now. As for me... I want a different experience. I want to achieve something on my own."

"You're already doing a great job, Ali. And I don’t think you still need validation from others. You’re already successful. And all the resorts your family owns are the proof of how hard working you are for all these years.”

"I know. But I want to step outside my comfort zone. I can't stay here forever. I want to challenge myself by trying something different."

"I understand that it's what you want," she replied. "But do you really have to move away? Do you really have to work for another company when your family already owns a successful business? Here, you're the boss. Why would you choose to work under someone else? Besides, we both know people in Manila can be difficult."

"Don't you think it sounds exciting?" I asked with a grin.

She rolled her eyes.

"I honestly don't know what got into your head to make you decide something like this."

I laughed.

"You were the one who said I'm the boss here. That's exactly why I also want to experience what it's like to be an ordinary employee."

She sighed.

"I'll support whatever decision you make. You're not a child anymore."

"Just admit you're going to miss me," I teased.

"Oh, please! In case you've forgotten, I work in Manila too."

"And yet you don't want me to move there. Don't tell me you've got a boyfriend already."

"Oh, stop it, Elisha. Romance isn't even on my mind. I want to focus on myself."

"Sure you do."

"What about the companies you applied to?"

"I'm still waiting for their emails.”

"That's good. I hope you find a decent job that won't be too stressful."

I lightly smacked her arm.

"What do you take me for? Weak? I can do or learn any job as long as I put my mind to it."

The following morning, I visited the last resort on my list before heading home to pack for Manila.

"Ms. Elisha, are you really leaving? What are we supposed to do without you?" one of my employees asked.

I smiled and nodded.

"I want to achieve something on my own, somewhere no one knows me and where I don't have any connections. And besides, I trust you all here.”

"You don’t have to worry about it."

"I’ll visit here often if I have time. Just promise me you'll take good care of our resort."

"Good luck on your new journey, Ma’am. We will always cheer for you.”

After talking to everyone, I headed to my office with the cousin I trusted the most to oversee all the branches of our resorts.

"Look who’s excited here," my cousin said with a smile.

I laughed. “Why? Do you want me to cry? This is what I wanted to do; that’s why I'm happy and excited. I know life in there would not be easy on me, but I have a huge trust in myself that I can handle it.”

"Good luck to you then."

I simply smiled.

Most people would probably dream of living the kind of life I already had.

Who wouldn't?

I had properties, a beautiful home, and financial security.

And I was my own boss.

Before leaving, I faced my cousin.

"I'm leaving everything in your hands.”

He smiled and nodded. "You don’t need to worry. I’ll handle everything. Just focus on the things that make you happy and achieve your goals."

After we finished talking, I said goodbye and left.

I still needed to finish packing everything I'd be bringing to Manila.

Thanks to Yana, I'd already rented a condominium there.

For now, I didn't plan on buying one.

It was already five in the afternoon when I finished checking the sales reports.

Just then, a new email notification popped up on my screen.

I opened it...

And a smile slowly spread across my face.

An interview invitation...

From Guevarra Corporation.

I had submitted an application there, but honestly, I hadn't expected anything.

I knew countless applicants dreamed of working for one of the most successfulccessful

ELISHA POVI spent the entire day focused on the documents Caden had given me to review. I barely noticed the time, and if I hadn’t started feeling hungry, I wouldn’t have ordered any food.I stood up and entered Caden’s office to remind him about his next meeting. When I walked in, I saw him completely focused on his laptop.“Sir,” I said, getting his attention.“You have a meeting in 10 minutes in the conference room with Valencia Enterprises,” I said.“Got it.”I placed a folder on his desk.“This is the one you asked me to finish earlier.”“Good job. Thanks!”“Do I still need to come to the meeting?” I asked. He shook his head.“No need. You can continue your work.”I nodded.“Alright. Thank you, Sir,” I said before excusing myself. Good thing I didn’t have to attend anymore, and I finally had time to eat.Around 1:30 p.m., he came out.“I’ll be attending a meeting now, Elisha.”“Is there anything you’d like me to take care of, Sir?” I asked.“No. You can go home once you finish y

ELISHA POVOur meeting took much longer than expected, so it ended late.Dark clouds covered the sky.The moment we stepped outside, rain poured heavily.I laughed.“The timing is really perfect.”But I kept walking anyway.“Stop, Elisha.”I looked at my boss.“Why?”He opened the umbrella he was holding.“You’ll get sick.”I sighed before walking over to him. I couldn’t help but wonder about the way he was acting. He had been becoming kinder to me lately. When we were almost at the hotel, a motorcycle suddenly passed in front of us, causing muddy water to splash all over us.At first, I gasped, but I immediately laughed when I saw the expression on my boss’s face.“Damn it! Who the hell was that? This suit is expensive!” he complained, making me laugh even harder.“Why are you laughing, Elisha?”I quickly covered my mouth when he spoke.“Sorry, Sir. Just look at your face.”“It’s not funny.”“You really can’t avoid people like that. They don’t pay much attention to where they’re driv

ELISHA POVWe remained silent as Caden and I traveled along the road to Batangas. At first, I thought his driver would be coming with us, but I was surprised when he drove the car himself.“Why did you choose to drive yourself? Won’t you get tired? We’re going somewhere far,” I asked while staring out the window.“Why not? I can drive just fine. I only let someone else drive when I’m tired.”I simply shrugged and closed my eyes. We still had a long trip ahead of us, so I decided to get some sleep. It seemed like the man beside me was used to traveling without anyone to talk to.When I woke up, I saw food and coffee beside me.“Good. You’re finally awake.”I sat up properly.“Sorry. It looks like I slept for a long time.”“No worries. Go ahead and eat.”“I didn’t even notice that you stopped somewhere,” I said.“You were sleeping too deeply to notice that we made a stop.”“Thank you,” I said with a smile before starting to eat.I looked out the window and noticed that we were entering

ELISHA POVThe next morning, when I arrived at the company, I overheard several employees whispering about me."Have you heard the news?""What news? I went home early yesterday.""Our CEO praised his new secretary.""Really? That's so unusual.""Right?""How did that happen?""No one knows... unless there's something going on between them behind office hours."One of them suddenly noticed me.Her eyes widened in panic, and she quickly nudged the others.Too late. Now they wanted to stop talking after I'd already heard everything?Typical toxicity.I walked straight toward them."If you're going to talk about me, at least make sure I don't hear it, especially if you don't have the courage to say it to my face.""Elisha...""Oh? Do you still have something to say? Since I've already heard everything, why don't you finish what you were saying? Go ahead. Say it right here in front of me. Don't be cowards.""Elisha, we were just talking," one of them insisted."You think I'm stupid?" I sh

ELISHA POVIt's been two weeks since I started working here, and I can honestly say it hasn't been easy, especially with my boss. But if he thinks he can make me give up, then he's mistaken.I was on my way back to my desk with a cup of coffee when I overheard several employees talking. It looked like they were working overtime too."This is so tiring.""I didn't expect we'd have overtime today; I thought it was next week.""And you know what? I kinda feel sorry for his new secretary. She needs to finish all the documents given to her every single day. And it’s not a few files only. Imagine that?”"Exactly! I'm sure she won't even last a month. And she’ll resign.”When I returned to my workstation, I frowned after seeing another stack of documents waiting on my desk.Is my boss doing this on purpose?I let out a sigh before sitting down.A sticky note was attached to the documents.‘You need to finish this report. I need it by tomorrow.’He needs it tomorrow, yet he only gave it to me

CADEN POV"None of the applicants meet the company's standards. Are you sure you've thoroughly checked all the documents they submitted?" I asked one of my employees."I-I'm sorry, Sir. I reviewed every single application, and they're all qualified for the position.""Are you sure?" I asked, noticing him swallow nervously. "Then why hasn't anyone passed?""I'm sorry, Sir...""Your apology won't change anything.
