MasukChapter 2
Elara did not get a wink of sleep the entire night, even though her body was exhausted and her eyes burned from holding back her tears. Every time she closed them, Dominic’s voice echoed in her mind like a broken recorder, steady and indifferent, as though he had been talking about an investment rather than a human being who had emotions. Once she gave birth, her role would be fulfilled. And that meant one thing: her service would no longer be needed. Just how did she find herself in that mess? When morning arrived, her heart already felt older, heavier, and painfully aware of the reality she had married into. Dominic returned to the bedroom just before sunrise, fully dressed and ready to leave, as though the night before had never happened at all. Her presence did not even shake anything in him. Elara felt like crying, but even her tears betrayed her. They could not come out no matter what. The man paused briefly when he noticed she was awake, but there was no discomfort in his expression, and there was no sign that he found the situation awkward or even worth acknowledging. “There will be a family breakfast this morning,” he said evenly. “You are expected to attend.” “Yes,” Elara replied, forcing her aching body to sit up. As he turned to leave, she finally found the courage to stop him, because if she did not ask now, she knew she never will. “Dominic,” she called out softly. The man paused in his steps, though his hand remained on the door handle. “What is it?” His voice was still flat, like he was addressing his business partner. Elara took a deep breath, steadying herself before she spoke up. “What you said last night about our marriage, did you mean it?” He finally turned to face her, but his gaze was still calm and direct, without even a trace of guilt. “This was a contract marriage, and it was for a purpose,” he said. “You agreed to it knowing that.” “And after that purpose is fulfilled,” she asked, her voice barely steady, “what happens to me?” “You will be taken care of,” Dominic replied. “You will have status, comfort, and security. That is more than most marriages offer.” Elara clenched her fingers into the sheets, her heart breaking into a million pieces. She wanted none of the things he had mentioned above. She looked at Dominic dead in the eyes and questioned, “And love?” Dominic frowned upon hearing that. His countenance became cold as he spoke, “Elara, don’t complicate things. I don’t have time to indulge in your stupid fantasies. There is no love between us, and there will never be. You hold your end of the bargain, and I would do just the same.” “I…” “Get changed. My family doesn’t like to be kept waiting.” Dominic said before he marched out of the room without looking back. The words Dominic had said settled in her, and she felt something inside her quietly give way. Dominic did not wait for a response, because to him the conversation was already over, and he left the room without looking back. Breakfast was a carefully staged performance. Smiles were exchanged, polite questions were asked, and expectations hovered unspoken in the air. Elara felt them watching her, evaluating her posture, her manners, and her suitability, as though she were livestock being inspected for quality. She smiled when required and spoke when addressed, yet inside she felt smaller with every passing minute. By the time she returned to the bedroom, her chest felt tight, and her head ached from holding everything in. She sat on the edge of the bed and stared at her reflection in the mirror, barely recognizing the woman staring back at her. Gosh, it had only been one night, and she could barely recognize herself. What would become of her in the coming days? She had entered this marriage believing that sincerity would be enough, that patience might soften a man like Dominic Blackwood, and that time would reward her courage. But she had made herself a laughing stock of the entire Blackwood family. … That evening, Dominic did not return to the bedroom. Elara lay alone beneath the covers, her hand resting over her stomach as a strange unease settled deep within her. What had she signed up for? Had she just sold her life to the devil? The thought of how Dominic had treated her on their wedding night scared her stiff. It was like he was performing his routine duty. He did not even care that it was her first time, and he did not even care if she was comfortable or not. Elara had endured a lot growing up, but one thing she always looked forward to was her marriage. She would fantasize about her first kiss, her first night, and how lovingly her husband would treat her. But after everything, maybe Domic was right. All those were just her stupid fantasies. She closed her eyes and turned onto her side, holding onto herself because no one else would. The tears she had been holding since last night could not be contained anymore. Elara buried her head in the pillow and allowed her tears to fall freely. She knew that she would not allow herself to be weak, but she could not help it. For the first time since she had become Mrs. Blackwood, a terrifying thought took shape in her mind, and it shook her to the core. If she truly became pregnant with Dominic’s child, then neither her life nor her child would ever belong to her. And that thought scared Elara to the point of insanity. She wondered if it was too late to ask for an out. For the next few days, Dominic rarely entered the bedroom, and the days he did, it was just for the sake of depositing his seeds into Elara. Elara felt worthless with each passing day, and she wondered when the torment would end. Every time she wanted to talk to him, Dominic would just use work as an excuse, because even having a conversation with her was a waste of his precious time.Chapter 160Clap!Clap!Clap!Elara entered the venue as she clapped hard. This was the moment she had been waiting for, and seeing her enemy’s defeated expression, a thrilling feeling coursed through her body. When Sara saw her, she thought that she was seeing a ghost. She pointed at her, but she could not utter a single word, “You… you…”Elara moved closer and pointed at herself, “Me? Me what?”“You…” Sara’s eyes were so wide that they were about to fall out of their own sockets.Elara smiled. She pressed a button, and another video played. It was of her and Chad getting kidnapped and being taken to Caleb’s lab.Seeing how Elara had been threatened to create the cure for Sara, everyone was stunned, and they started to loudly curse at Sara.“What the hell? This family is rotten to the core.”“They destroyed Elara and took her life’s work, made sure that she was left with nothing, but when they needed her help, they did not hesitate to kidnap her.”“My goodness, couldn’t they even feel
Chapter 159The moment Sara appeared on the aisle, everyone started to whisper.“Why is she wearing a black gown on her wedding?”“The gown is really beautiful, but isn’t it a bit inappropriate to wear that on her big day? I thought that every girl’s dream is to wear white on their wedding day?”“How could we know? You know how rich people have weird fetishes. Maybe she wanted to be unique; that was why she wore the black gown.”Sara could feel everyone’s gaze on her, and she wondered what was going on in their heads. Her heart should be filled with joy as she walked down the aisle, but why did she feel like she was walking to her death? It was like she was signing her life over to the devil.“Mom, can I back out now? I don’t feel like getting married anymore.” Sara whispered through the veil. Her father reprimanded her before Tina could say anything, “Don’t even think about it.”Sara felt like crying. She did not understand what was wrong with her.She had been dreaming of this day f
Chapter 158“Sara, are you sure you are going to your wedding?” Tina shouted as she removed the blanket from Sara’s body.Sara groaned as she tried to open her eyes, but her head hurt so hard that the moment she opened her eyes, they stung so much that tears almost fell.“Urgh!”Tina looked at her daughter and complained, “I have never seen anyone so wasted on their wedding day. What happened to you? Did you have to drink too much just because you are finally marrying Dominic?”Sara squeaked as she tried to find something to cover herself with, “Mom, why are you so annoying? I want to sleep some more.”“What has gotten into this family? Your brother hasn’t been home in days, and I don’t even know if he will show up at your wedding, and now you! Do you guys want to drive me to my death so early?”Tina looked at the time on her phone and frowned. The Blackwood family would be here any minute, and if they found out that Sara had gone to the bar and gotten herself drunk to the point that
Chapter 157Sara did not know if it was just a coincidence or if the universe was trying to prove to her that she made the right choice by getting married to Dominic. They were having their parties at the same hotel, and Sara could not have been happier. She hadn't seen Dominic in a few days, and she couldn't get her eyes off of him. The more she looked at him, the more she realized just how handsome he was."Our couple is indeed fated for each other. This kind of coincidence doesn’t happen every day. And for that matter, we are going to party till dawn." One of Dominic's friends said. When they realized that they were at the same hotel, Dominic and Sara's friends decided to combine the parties, and that was how Dominic and Sara found themselves sharing the same room."Let's play, guys."Dominic sat in a dimly lit corner; his entire body shrouded in mystery. His cold aura made him look out of place, and the wine glass in his hands just added to his seductive charm.Sara looked at him
Chapter 156With the wedding fast approaching, Sara was getting nervous with each passing day.She would not decide on which dress to wear or the accessories to use. She had not even decided on the kind of makeup to wear on her wedding day.“Urgh! This is overwhelming.” Sara groaned as she slumped in the chair. Her mother passed her a glass of cold juice as she said, “That is what you get for marrying into a rich family. This would be the wedding of the century, so you can’t really slack off.”“Come on, we will try on some more, and if you still can’t find anything you like, we will have to get it custom-made for you.”“Mom, we don’t have the time. There are only two days left before the wedding.”Tina thought about something and frowned, “But why hasn’t Dominic prepared a gown for you? Isn’t it his responsibility as your groom?”“Mom, Dommy has a lot going on right now, so I don’t want to bother him with something so small. Plus, it is my wedding, so I have to wear something that I g
Chapter 155“Sis, what did you do? I already told you that Elara would never set us up, but you still went ahead and murdered her in cold blood. Do you know that you would still be a cripple if she had not stepped in to help you?” Caleb reprimanded.“Caleb, your sister only did that for the sake of our family. You don’t know what Elara would have done the moment she left this place. I don’t know what she did to you, son, but you need to snap out of it.” Theo said.“She did not do a fucking thing to me,” Caleb shouted in a cold tone. “She only made my heart beat again.”He pointed at his sister and spoke, “She has been obsessed with Dominic ever since she was you, but you never said anything about it. Even if Dominic made it clear that he did not want her, she still lusted after him.”He roughly rubbed his face as he continued, “Goodness, she even went as low as drugging him, just so the man could touch her, but nothing happened, and she had to come up with the whole pregnancy thing ju
